What’s Pep’s secret sauce!? Where ever he has gone he has been a SERIAL success. One off success may happen because of various reasons but the consistency with which Pep delivers is just fascinating.

Probably only SAF is ahead of him as the GOAT?

True. But like how? All these managers have access to best of data, coaches and what not. But Pep teams always look like trying to win.

I think he is a great psychologist with a high EQ. He connects with his players like no one else. This allows him to get the best out of everyone no matter the position he puts them in.

Phase 1 - Have Xavi, Iniesta + Messi in your team.

      Phase 2 - Enter a 1 horse race

Phase 3 - Oil money and lots of it.

In all seriousness he is brilliant and has revolutionised the game. I think his ability to think outside the box, his obsession with the game and perfection and his relentlessness to keep improving year on year.

Good manager in the dominant teams in the league, with most money to spend.

If he had the same success at, for example, Atleti, Dortmund, Liverpool. That would be fascinating.

      Still good though. Great, even

Don’t think City were anywhere near good when he took over. Granted he bought players to build his team but a lot of those buys were very intelligent buys like Gundo, Rodri, Bilva, etc. None of them broke the bank or were the Galacticos type.

        1. DARE TO BISCAN
          • 7 Years

The infinity money will always be the issue with Man city. Literally playing with cheat codes - and (pointlessly) fined for it.

When you can afford to get and bin off any player you want, makes it a lot easier to build and maintain a winning team. That's not just transfer fees - wages, agent & family payoffs also come into play (eg. Haaland).

Granted, you can still spend money poorly (ManU, Ev, Chelsea)

When is a solid supply of capital a bad thing 😛

Buying players but going and winning trophies after trophies requires much more. Look at PSG, they’ve behaved like brats buying every shinny toy they could and yet they haven’t been successful in UCL or remained consistent with their managers.

            1. DARE TO BISCAN
              • 7 Years

PSG are a joke. Not being PSG, is a low bar 😀

Not saying Pep isn't a great manager. It's impossible to say who's the GOAT, as they all did it under different circumstances.

There will always be the asterisk for Man City, though

Relentless drive + tactical genius. I don't think managers like SAF were ever as tactical as him. Dude transforms players, and creates new playing styles on a regular basis.

Fans will always be split, but I think within football players (ex and current), there's growing consensus on his greatness.

      1. Thanos
        • 4 Years
        2 years, 8 months ago

Agree on creating new playing styles. But you don’t win as much as SAF did or Pep does if your not tactically good. That too consistently over years!

Think the GOAT debate for SAF vs Pep is much like Messi vs CR7. You’ll have fans in both camps!
