exactly, makes little sense, especially with Jones' development; thought this would be the season he'd be allowed to push on after a strong finish to last season

      1. Total Slotball
        • 10 Years

I seen Gravenberch as a Jones replacement if he didn’t develop as expected. Given Jones end of season form but patchy injury record I struggle to see the plan when Liverpool need a top class ball winning 6.

He developed Gini into an 8 yes. But we need a top class 6 and Bayern are selling this player to fund their option in Palhinha, who Liverpool actually need.

I get that, but I'm happy. Was worried we'd get noone else in.

He's played as a pivot and in a double pivot before. In fact, he's played as a 6, an 8 and a 10, I think. At 21, Klopp can do something with him.

Another number in midfield will help too. We're a bit light if Mac or Szob get injured.

why are liverpool buying gravenberch, have they just given up on having a balanced midfield for the whole season?

With TAA, best now to sell? I doubt he gets he gets to pick up advanced midfield positions as they'll be occupied all season by the 3 midfield signings

    1. lugs

TAA is not worth the price until Liverpool start keeping cleansheets, right now 8m for the odd assist is way too much

          • 15 Years
          3 years, 16 days ago

Then why did you say "with Newcastle's UCL group being so difficult" ?

By asking your question in that way, I thought you were concerened about something changing after the draw, which is why I gave you my opinion, not that it counts for much.

          1. Piggs Boson
            • 15 Years
            3 years, 16 days ago

I asked if Trippier was an avoid or not. So which way were you leaning before the draw, do you think he'll get rested in the league or not, given the 6 games we knew he'd be getting?

I personally think a group of Feyenoord, Porto, Red Star Belgrade would have lowered that chance, but that's not the important part.

            Avoid, or buy?

              • 15 Years

Rotation is a risk, given that our prem fixtures look a lot easier on paper once the group stage starts

Thanks. Yeah, that's what I was worried of.

Sorry if I was a bit of an arse. I didn't expect the the premise of the question to be contentious. I shouldn't have used it, it brought focus away from what I was asking. Communication not my strong suit.

The big teams often play 2nd string sides in the group stage whenever they can. City will probably play mostly a B team in every game.

United usually start with a 2nd string side, drop points, and then are forced to play their best team for the remainder. That's usually how it goes for them.

But not sure Newcastle can do that with that group.

Newcastle will play their strongest team whenever they can. Will probably be some rotation in midfield and upfront between UCL and Prem as needed.

IMO Trippier starts every UCL and Prem game if he's fit. Livramento may start to get more minutes off the bench, and he could get a start in the cup game against Man City. All just conjecture though based on Trippier's minutes last season. Howe may surprise us.

      Rashford is due a goal.
Moved back into his favourite position last week = instant returns.
Run of games coming up including 3 out 4 at home. Utd unbeaten at home in about 30 games.
With everyone selling he becomes a great differential.
Chasing last weeks points rarely works out well , especially if you sell proven assets to do it.
      Maddison is made of glass.
Spurs haven't a real CF to profit from Maddison creativity.
      Spurs are Spurs.
Otherwise it's a good move, just giving you another perspective. I'll be keeping Rashford for at least 1 more week.

    Bench headaches!

    Chilwell, Saliba, Akanji
    Saka, Sterling, Foden, Maddison
    Watkins, Haaland, Wissa

    Bench: Mitoma, Estupinan, Cash

Is it wrong to bench Brighton players this week?

Depends what you can do with the money. I'd bring Diaz in and see how much better your squad looks with the extra 4.8
