"Big numbers" is one of my favourite topics. I love random stats like this. The Chilwell 2 is a bit of a filler, however. Agreed with Virg, I'm used to seeing Neale's name at the bottom.

    Foden+Wissa > Maddy+Alvarez
    Gtg?

    Areola
    Estu - Chilwell - Colwill
    Mbeumo - Saka - Foden - Salah - Eze
    Haaland - Wissa

    Onana - Gabriel - Mubama - Kabore

Problem is that Foden and Wissa have great home fixtures the next GW

I never understood pickford hype at start of season & now don't understand the Newcastle defender hype.
Yes Newcastle are a much better team than Everton & Newcastle have also had tough fixtures but even end of last season Newcastle with 'good fixtures' Newcastle wernt keeping CS & not many attacking returns from trippier

They haven't kept any clean sheets this season either, if that's more relevant.

More yes but still not relevant enough because they had hard fixtures.

        Yes
I based my decision on to get pickford based on the fact they were awful last season & I couldn't see why that would change this season

It's a somewhat salient point, though. Newcastle have finished Top 4 and strengthened; Everton barely survived relegation and have weakened.

Pickford was a terrible pick and a trap that I confess I walked in to along with a large contingent of other fpl managers. Wanting rid but requires a hit so will probably stick now until I wc.

Re Newcaste, any nailed defender priced at 4.5 (ala Botman) is well worth a look in a team that finished top 4 last season imho (and have strengthened as others have said).

My first season back after a few years off so just sounding this out, for the LUT BUR DGW is that a good time to use the free hit?

My thinking is that you wouldn't really want their assets outside of that game week.

Is this when people tend to use that chip?

It's Luton and Burnley. Have very low expections from them despite a double or you will be disappointed. Save for a week with doubles from much better attacking teams

Or a blank gameweek as said below, but if it's a blank gameweek with mostly poor teams like Luton and Burnley, I prefer to just use transfers and field 8+ players or so

    2. Qaiss

No, the chip is better used when there’s the least games being played (around gw29 later in the season)

Burnley and Luton are not good enough use the chip that week. Strong possibility they both lose their first game that week without scoring and then you’ll just regret that you used it

Liverpool doesn't seem good enough defensively to justify spending 8 mil on a punt when there are higher upside players like Chilwell, Estu, Udogie and also possibly Trippier lying around. If I wanted a piece of Liverpool I would be going Salah, Darwin and possibly Allison before TAA.

An avoid for me. I said at the start of the season, he'll be FPL's biggest disappointment this year. I'd like to revise that estimate up (Richarlison might take the prize) - Trent will do okay, but not £8M okay. I think Slobby will steal a lot of his thunder.

I still like the Trent pick, he may not be the Trent of old, but he could still go on good runs of getting assists game after game, in spells.
I don't think Salah would ever be an option to afford though, with Trent.

So you are really dependant on attacking returns not clean sheets. If you think he will keep getting attacking returns get VVD in.

If Virg makes a mistake leading to a goal, Trent loses his cleanie. I always factor in the rest of the defence when selecting defenders.

I fear we may have missed the boat on Mbuemo so in that price bracket I'll probably go for Diaby instead...

Mbeumo has the highest xGI in the prem (albeit with a lucky pen) and has Everton, Forest, a devasted Man U, Burnley and a crap Chelsea for his next 5 games after this GW so I would still be going for him if I didn't have him next GW.

I've seen a few saying this and don't get it. I've barely seen anyone expecting ManUtd to beat Brighton and they've lost their last 3 to them 7-1 on aggregate, Bournemouth have been dire defensively, Villa have conceded 9 in 4 and Brighton have a good recent record against Liverpool.

I don't have any Brighton assets but they're one of the best attacking sides in Europe let alone the PL right now. Why are so many acting like these fixtures are dreadful for them?

With you here. I would not sell any Brighton first XI attacking player, least of all Mitoma.
Man U and Liverpool aren't water tight defensive teams, I'd be more surprised if they kept Brighton down to 2XG

Tempted to WC to the below

      Leno Areola
      Chilwell Cash Henry Botman Udogie
      Rashford Son Maddison Mbeumo Diaby
      Haaland Jesus Alvarez

Not sure if Chilwell is worth if worth having or not.

Could also swap Son & Jesus for Saka & Darwin.

Botman is injured and the double up on Son and Maddison does not seem like a long term viable solution. Also, look into getting Luton or Burnley due to DGW in GW7.

Loads of people doubled up on Man U or Arsenal midfield - or both. I don't see why Son/Maddi should be less viable.

Son and Maddison is a long term pick. I'll probably want the double up from GW8. Just a case of deciding whether a double up for GW5 is worth it. Could maybe go Saka and Jesus and transfer them both out in GW8 to Son and Watkins. Not hugely excited by the DGW, I could maybe do Alvarez to Morris in GW7 if I thought it was warranted.

Wont be picking him myself as I have Archer 1st bench but seems like Edouard is the best under 6m striker to own at this point and his fixtures are not the worst if you take out UTD, NEW and TOT. Very surprised at how well he is doing.

Yeah despite Liverpool's nice fixture this week I am still only really considering Darwin as my replacement for Wissa in a hypothetical GW 9 WC and going Alvarez this week instead as Darwin is one of those players that can just suddenly backfire and the fixtures after this week aren't amazing until GW 9 making it a bit risky with probably not enough upside to justify it unless Liverpool start really stepping up.

2 ways of playing now or a mix of the 2.
Before, most of us planned around fixture swings, but what seems to be a drop in clean sheets, the start of the Euro leagues with "new teams" taking part and the wealth of midfield talent available to us. I think it more appropriate to do the following:
      1) Have a full playing and decent bench: We are in a position to have extra money sitting and waiting to be used, so if we are in the fortunate position of good rotation, we can use it. There is no longer the necessity to have 4 dullards sitting and making use of the 11. We can rotate a favorable 1 week punt and hopefully benefit from this.
      2) Look only as deep as 3 weeks away: We no longer have to wait for 8 week swings. We should call it FOLO, not FOMO. Fear of LOSING OUT. It is what it is. If you want son for Rashford/Saka; just do it!

I tried arguing before the season started that it was foolish filling your bench with 4m no-hopers; many (inc content creators) did it anyway and many have been burnt. I'd say whether your wildcarding now or not yet, it's still important to acquire active subs. However, it's still not as simple as that. With the 5-sub rule now entering all managers' thinking, when midweek games kick in, we'll have the nightmare of many key players playing short minutes at the weekend and midweek rather than playing a full game and resting for the other.

Fully agree. I would choose a player likely to start rather than not. I think the point is missed. I am not saying we have a bench to sub on, but a bench that could play over another in some cases.

Yeah I'm kind of heading more and more toward this way of thinking about my mids. With such an abundance of options, I think being patient with someone like Martinelli, waiting for Jesus to come back & the big chances to flow, might have been a bit of a mistake early on. Now that I have my defence nicely set on WC I really don't want to carry any passengers with low short-term expectations in midfield. Ready to jump back on Rashford as soon as Man Ute improve but right now he falls into the same category for me

Interesting. Maybe because my defence is picked on attacking threat as much (perhaps more than) CS potential, I don't really feel like there are all that many other options to chop/change between. The fixture-targeting will come solely from rotating the 5 for 3 spots (Chilwell, Estupinan, Digne, Porro, Trippier). Also feel like there's a much greater opportunity cost to 'patience' with underpeforming midfielders at the moment, especially for tactical aficionados like us who have strong opinions on specific matchups / short-term trends

That is what I initially planned gw1 with my BB team. But I decided the whole team needed a clear out - get Maddison- Salah - Chelsea players

I then sold Salah gw3 for Nakamba as I feel 3-4-3 with Haaland - Salah - Son is very viable gw9

My current thinking for around gw10 is something like:

        Onana (Turner)
        Estupinan - Botman - Udogie (Kabore-Henry)
Salah - Son - Maddison- Diaby (Nakamba)
        Awoniyi - Alvarez - Haaland

        --

But my current team now for gw5 is:

        Onana (Turner)
        Chilwell - Botman - Udogie (Kabore-Henry)
Saka - Foden - Maddison- Diaby (Nakamba)
        Jackson - Alvarez - Haaland

That is with 6.4m in the bank - that gw10ish team will have very little left in the bank - after those 4 changes.

Darwin/Wilson are also alternatives in the striker slot. I just feel by going 3-4-3 it offers something different instead of that 5 man midifeld. Also if done correctly most of the money will be spent on my first eleven with one decent sub

The only problem with GW1 is you were working with very little info. We still don't have a lot but in my eyes, the WC is somewhat devalued due to choices. Benefits are lost with a couple of unlucky pics. More the case in GW1.

i was thinking that, however many cavetas here (Which should make the game interesting)

        a) less clean sheets yes, but that means less defensive points for EVERYONE, u still want to maximize on those said points to differentiate yourself, hence fixture swing targeting is still valid. maybe MORESO valid since not many will opt for it (maybe)
        b) so far we've seen almost a 0.5 increased goal per game, over the norm (last 3 years i think?) meaning more offensive points, u still want to target fixture swings as well for that extra 0.5

        c) I would go for 14 players and 1 playing fodder. I do not want to overcook the risk of bench headache, and even worse, as Andy has mentioned, the risk of actually having players play, but shorter minutes, as opposed to no shows and then having ur bench players on.

Moreno will be in my side the moment he is fit. As I said, I am not looking for minutes off the bench, rather rotating players who are at risk of missing out. It makes Pool and Citeh more optional early team news is around.

Think most already have one or two Man Utd mids, so a double/triple up seems a bit excessive, given other options. He could become an option later if he looks good. Plenty of negativity around Man Utd at the minute, but from a FPL point of view I don't think it hugely impacts Fernandes or Rashford.

That's a good point about double/triple up, considering most will still have one or both of Rash and Bruno.

I'd rather a striker who could actually finish tbh. If you gave Jesus the same amount of big chances that Kane got last season, he'd only score 13 goals (compared to Kane's 25 NPG).

If Son has an ice pack on he shouldn’t play in a friendly v Saudi in any case?

Either way it will indicate the extent of it.

He'd be starting without an issue so it'll be clear cut.

Unless he plays some bit part. But yeah, the show game isn't important and his club career is. I suspect the South Korean management team will play it by the book.

Depends on your midfield priorities and what you want coming in.

Pickford and Baldock if you have cash, otherwise Pickford and Jackson/Martinelli depending on if you want to target a midfielder or forward

Would your transfer Sterling or Rashford to bring Son in?
