Fantasy managers will welcome the return of the Premier League following the first international break of the season.

Many managers will have played their Wildcard ahead of Gameweek 5 with Tottenham Hotspur assets among the most transferred in players this week.

Indeed, three of the top four most-bought players since the Gameweek 4 deadline are Son Heung-min, James Maddison and Cristian Romero.

Son in particular looks like an enticing prospect at home to Sheffield United as many will be expecting him to again start in a central striking role after his hat-trick from that position against Burnley.

Meanwhile, his main rival for the position, Richarlison, is yet to score or assist a Premier League goal this season.

Smarkets will therefore be leaning into this this week, with markets on both Son and Maddison to score over 7.5 and 6.5 points respectively.

As managers look to bring in the Spurs pair, someone making way from many Fantasy teams is Raheem Sterling. While he has at times failed to turn promising performances into Fantasy returns, odds of 3.5 for him to score over 7.5 points away at Bournemouth look enticing.

Arsenal will be looking to build on their late win over Manchester United as they play Everton away. Despite Everton generally struggling in the league in recent years, the Gunners have only picked up one point in total from their past five trips to Goodison Park.

Arsenal’s main Fantasy assets, such as Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard, may struggle to haul in what could be a low-scoring encounter. Under 3.5 goals is heavily odds-on at 1.53 (8/15) and so there could be value in backing either Saka or Odegaard to get under 6.5 points at (8/15) and 1.67 (4/6) respectively.

There are also the usual markets on offer for fixture-proof heavy hitters Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland, both to grab over 8.5 points.

Personally I would play Mitoma over Wissa. United in a bit of a mess aren't they, and could be a good opportunity to attack their suspect defence. Brighton have beaten United in the last 3 league games they've played against each other.

I think I have my cunning plan thought out for a gw10 line up finally -

    Going from this gw5 team

(Already used a transfer to get Udogie in for Beyer)

    Turner (Onana)
    --
    Udogie - Gusto - Chilwell (Henry-Kabore)
    --

Foden - Maddison - Saka - Diaby (Nakamba)

    --
    Haaland-Alvarez-Jackson

    --

Changed to this team - which hopefully will only cost a -4

    Turner (Areola*)
    --
    Udogie - Botman* - Cash* (Henry-Kabore)
    --

Son* - Maddison - Salah* - Diaby (Nakamba)

    --
    Haaland-Darwin*-Watkins*

7 changes between now and then and plenty of money in the bank, for any price changes.
This should get me near the gw10 wildcarders type team, hopefully.

I did consider one player (Koloesho) who I noticed has started a few times for Burnley only 5m - but he does not fit my team structure of 3-4-3. Maybe people might get him gw5 in advance of the double gw7? Burnley fan forums seem to be impressed by him

The only pick I am not sure of down the line is Watkins. But I know Brighton have a nice run around gameweek 10 so there are alternatives.

    1. Eze Really?

-4 points. I already used my wildcard gw2.

So my logic is that I need to get as close to gw10 wildcarders as quickly as possible. One -4 (Barring injuries) between now and gw10 is the quickest I think I can do it.

    Best option here?

    A) Save FT
    B) Odegaard -> Son(c)

If doing B) I'd be tempted with the following plan to play the fixtures...
    GW6: Son -> Rashford
    GW7: Save
    GW8: Gabriel & Saka -> Udogie & Son

    Turner
    Chilwell, Gvardiol, Gabriel
    Saka, Odegaard, Foden, Sterling, Bruno
    Haaland(c), Jackson

    Onana, Estupinan, Usola, Baldock
    Bank 0.7m, 1FT

    1. Simon69
      • 14 Years
      2 years, 11 months ago

Assuming you'd captain Haaland if you save the ft? I'm in a similar situation, although I currently have double United and Arsenal midfielders. The idea of swapping Martinelli, Saka, Rashford, or Bruno for Son doesn't seem quite right given their upcoming fixtures. I'm aware that some argue Son will convert chances no matter how the opposition plays, but I'm finding it hard to envision a haul vs Sheffield playing a deep defensive line. I'm trying to convince myself that he's not essential!

    2. House Frey Wedding Planner
      • 7 Years

      I'd save the transfer.

It's too many unnecessary and wasted transfers to bring Son in, then take him out then bring him in again in the space of 3 weeks. Better off bringing him in for gw8 once the Arsenal and Liverpool games are out of the way. The midfield and attack are fine and you'll have more options with 2FT to use.

If you feel that Son is going to biltz Sheffield go for it.

But there is talk that they will likely sit back v Spurs making things difficult for Son. He won't have that high line like he did v Burnley.

    Turner
    Chillwell/ Estu/ Saliva
    Eze/ Bruno/ Mbuemo/ Sterling/ Saka
    Watkins/ Haaland

    Subs: Johnstone/Kabore/Baldock/Mubama

    £4.3M ITB, 1 free transfer, 3.2m OR

    1. Eze > Son
    2. Def (which?) > Trippier
    3. Wild Card time
    4. Something else?

I've had a slog of a start to the season and seem to be getting the 50/50 calls wrong; Sterling over a Spurs mid, and Eze vs another 6.5. I wa stung by the Gabriel GW1 pick and feel I've been a tra fer down on everyone since.

Agree that Cash is a better option than Walker and frees up a City spot in case you choose to bring in Foden, Stones, Gvardiol etc later down the line.

Also Baldock is a waste of a squad space when on a wildcard. If you have funds then maybe upgrade to Botman. If no funds, then bring in a playing 4.0 Luton defender instead and you have a better option for gw6 and a double in gw7 - this might actually be the better option

Would you get Alvarez or Awoniyi in?

To be a regular starter in the 11 with a bit of luck.

Or anyone else as the second striker?

    cheers

I already own Alvarez but if I was buying a striker right now then it would probably be Awoniyi.

    For the next 3 gameweeks.

    A) Udogie
    B) Trippier

Other defenders are Henry, Estu, Chilwell, Kabore.

Assuming you play a formation with 3 defs, ideally you start with:
      5: Chilwell +Kabore/Estu
      6: Estu Henry (+Chilwell/Kabore)
      7: Chilwell Kabore (+Henry/Estu)
You need someone to start gw5 for sure while for gws6/7 you're good with the others. So bec Udogie is better for gw5 go Udogie
