Onana to Flekken hurt a lot, in hindsight i dont understand for the life of me why flekken was so hyped

Raya did well last season and the thought was that BRE defence is sound

I'm not sure why people thought that though. Brentford conceded so many shots in basically every game last season, that's why Raya did so well for save pts (think he had the highest number of saves in the division?), although the difference there of course was his ability to make those saves unlike Flekken

Yeah probably you're right, I haven't checked the defence stats of BRE. Is it the case for Leno and FUL as well?

Definitely similar, Fulham conceded one shot less than Brentford last season and Leno had the second highest number of saves, although Fulham had far higher xGC

My assumption was basically this - Brentford conceded the 4th highest number of shots from outside the box & the 4th lowest number of big chances (across the whole season) - so you don't need to be David Raya to save these low quality chances

          1. Nate(U)dog(ie)

I would normally agree, but I saw too many games / highlights last season where Raya was required to make high quality saves to keep Brentford ahead / in games. Shots outside the box is normally a fine indicator but I think they often allowed too many shots from decent positions or without pressure but in a manner similar to Alisson for Liverpool, Raya was able to cover up the defensive deficiencies

Oh yeah I'm starting to agree with that; just pointing out the (preseason) case for Flekken (more for the others since we've talked about this a bit already between ourselves) . Think I'll mainly be starting Leno over him for now

I don't think Flekken is a terrible choice tbh still, but always going to be hard to replicate Raya

Was going to WC in 8/9/10 but 5 huge red arrows in a row have forced my hand. It's a shame as I really wanted to be patient this season and my team was in good shape but everyone bar Salah and Haaland were blanking every week.
Turns out the WC team I'm picking for GW7 is pretty much the same anyway.

After today's games things will be clearer but how is the below looking?

    Areola
    Saliba Botman KABORE
    Salah Saka Maddison Diaby Bowen/JWP
    Haaland Alvarez
    Turner Archer Cash Udogie

I like it, tuner might lose his place, and JWP is my preferred option over Bowen, which would give you funds to upgrade turner??

Forest fan here and your spot on, cooper is very loyal as well, but, on paper, they have a 'better' keeper on the bench, and so its an unnecessary risk on a WC. But totally get you reasoning.

No idea about JWP and pannos. I just prefer JWP for his price and he's the kind of footy player that is in the right place at the right time, with the quality to pull it off consistently.

My WC team GW8 for comparison:

      Leno (Areola)
      Botman Udogie Cash (Walker Saliba)
      Salah Bruno* Maddison Szoboszlai* Diaby
      Haaland Awoniyi* (Archer)

      The * under thinkering 😛

Thanks mate, I can definitely afford Leno over Turner so will consider but I hate rotating and Turner covers Areolas bad fixtures nicely. Bruno tempting but not keen on Szob or Awon yet.

Set pieces at WHam - they're physically a big team, playing higher up the pitch than he did at Soton. Scoring points nicely and hasn't, if memory serves me correctly, even hit one of his specials yet.

this was said about eze to.. im more wary than ever now of really good players at poor sides. unless its a bottom of the basement game they ivariably get get less of the ball, dont have same quality around them and your often relying on these clutch moments of individual brilliance and thats rare.

I remember Matheus Pereira at West Brom hauling each week a few years back despite his team losing . Refused to get him in because I didn’t think it could last, and then they were relegated and thought the team would give up but he got loads of points all the way to the end.

Eze on the other hand I’ve completely lost faith with

fulham were a good team then and he had quality around him like mitro, willian and paulinha, the players being spoken of here play for teams miles below that level.

I can absolutely see avoiding Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool, City and Brighton attacks. Are West Ham really in this same category? Not for me they only put 2 past Luton. I can't see many games where West Ham score more than 2. Villa wouldn't worry me as much as some of those either unless you were much weaker than Villa on paper. Man Utd eventually but at the moment they wouldn't worry me at all.

No point in dwelling on could haves and should haves, even if you did that the likelihood is you would have missed some of the hauls. Everyone could essentially say the same thing

Jeez, anyone who has (or who is getting) Carlton Morris in their team for next week has a bit of a captaincy decision to make between him and Haaland 😯

Morris is good for an 8 point haul if you captain him provided Burnley and Everton can chop their arms off pre-game. What a farce that penalty decision was.

That Brentford defence looked horrible against the up and under tactics from Everton. Badly missing Mee from that point of view but they didn't look the same going forwards or defensively minus Henry either. Not sold on Flekken from the outset, doesn't command his box enough, a few dodgy moments. Is a defence that shipped 3 against Everton, and 2 against Bournemouth at home actually that desirable? The way I see it they are more solid in games they expect to lose than win.

They conceded the second highest number of shots last season with Raya far and away making the highest number of saves. They've never looked great tbh, Raya bailed them out too often last season

Worst performance ever seen from them. I Expected big regression but a thomas Frank Brentford team getting bullied and overrun was a shock. Needs to go back to their fundamentals. 532, 3 cbs behind 3 industrious midfielders, fitness, hardwork, fight for every ball, make the opposition play ugly. Wreck em on the counters.

Problem is they have been decimated. Toney, Raya, Rico, mee were so key to their success. Without them he's forced to play very different tactics. Schade was becoming key to the current system now he's out too. Flekken, Collins, Wissa are nowhere near the level of who they replaced. Maupay should start from now on

Brentford have been an away team for years. They thrive when the opposition takes the initiative and tries to outplay them. So the home away form is nothing new.

He was essential and a season keeper here about 2 weeks ago! Avoided him myself too, not to say I think he's a bad pick but some seem to genuinely expect returns from every asset weekly or else they need to go immediately

    Botman Estupinan Kabore (Udogie Baldock)
    Salah Saka Rashford Maddison Mbuemo
    Haaland Alvarez (Archer)
    1 FT, 0.9 ITB

Team is pretty set for the coming GW. Looking ahead to GW 8 though which would be my highest priority

    A) Turner to Raya
    B) Baldock to Cash/Gabriel
    C) Rashford and Baldock to Trippier and Diaby/JWP (with cash in the bank for a Turner upgrade gw 9 onwards)

    Early thoughts here?

Got a bit of a benching headache at the back, something of a deadending team into a post GW8 wildcard

    I’m thinking either
    A) Jackson to Morris (then upgrade one of the midfielders to Son GW8)
    B) Hold

    1FT 1.3ITB
    Pickford
    Chilwell Cash Schar
    Rashford Saka Maddison Foden Mbeumo
    Haaland Jackson

    Turner Estupinan Gvardiol Osula

    Cheers!

    My opinion:

With so many teams who have good FPL options in Europe this season, a strong bench is essential.

I'll be looking to have 15 "OK" players with little bench fodder.

Although the additional subs allowed increases the number of 1 pointers.

    Expect frustration.

Yeah. More reason to go cheap at the back, especially if you want Salah and Haaland. I only want one max fodder player

Nicolas Jackson's goal avoidance stats are absolutely amazing. To be ranked 3rd overall for XG but 41st for actually converting those chances suggests that he is playing blindfolded. Respect.

I'm not sure about ManU and whether Ten Hag is the right coach or not. So much money spent and still no improvements. Does he have a plan?

At least they still win such games like last night. But I'm still not convinced why I should spent premium for Rash and Bruno when I can have Madders and Son for less.

Spurs transformation looks like what you hoped Ten Hag could bring to ManU, just can't feel it yet.
