Why? Maddo could be out which could hurt his potential. Liverpool is no walkover. Why take a hit ? Bruno could get a pen and you will be kicking yourself

Regardless of owning Diaby would you have Watkins instead of Alvarez on a WC. I think Alvarez minutes will be resuced and he's overperformed his xG

I was thinking of that but rather have 352 and have Salah Son Maddison Diaby and Bowen. If I had to choose between Bowen and Alvarez I'd take Bowen as he's got better fixtures and more minutes. Can then easily downgrade to Mitoma around GW10

Very tough. I'd be tempted by Eze just because I can't see Cash or Estu keeping a CS.

So, based on chances of an attacking return, Eze *probably* edges it? But it's very close.

Is a defence of Estupinan - Porro - Botman - Pau overkill?

Porro, Botman and Pau all have great fixtures, but i'd be reluctant to drop Estupinan regardless of who he plays. Not sure I really want to play 4 ATB as my midfield is where all my budget is

Haha, I see what you mean...

I basically don't want a benching dilemma when Porro, Botman, Pau all have a good fixture run coming up. So I could drop one of them or Estupinan to raise some funds to use elsewhere.

    2. The Mentaculus
      • 4 Years

Nope. I have the first 2 + Trippier & Digne. Perhaps it was overkill when I had Chilwell as well.... but rotating 4 into 3 starters by fixtures is ideal imo so you can avoid some fixtures like City (A) for Estupinan

Yeah exactly - for me, if I downgraded Trippier - Botman I could still afford Salah (not sure I'll actually do that but it seems to be the key metric for most)

    1ft, 1.3itb

Don't think you'll miss much with the doublers. Maybe Morris gets 8-12 points, but his ownership isn't that high. I'm personally not too scared not having Trippier either, as long as I have another Newcastle defender. Bear in mind last week was a one-off result and Trippier's first attacking returns of the season.

          1. The Mentaculus
            • 4 Years
            2 years, 2 months ago

Admittedly this specific tactical matchup did suit Trippier, and perhaps his threat is diminished a little this season when Tonali is starting, but I don't see how you can dismiss this as a one-off given his quality on set pieces, history of attacking returns, and chance creation stats (=1st among defenders)

            1. mwa1t
              • 4 Years
              2 years, 2 months ago

I meant that the 8-0 was a one-off. Obviously Trippier has history of very good returns, but as you say he doesn't seem to be hitting those heights this season. For me, a return in 1 GW out of 8 isn't enough evidence to suggest he justifies the increased price over their other defenders.

                • 4 Years

Fair enough. I'd still expect substantially more than 1 attacking return per 8 games longer-term but there is a legit value question over the 2m extra v Botman

I'm going though the fixtures for the incoming weeks and it is really hard to fit in all the potentially good picks, the list is too long...

    - Maddison and Son, Udogie in def, until GW9, but see nothing against keeping until GW12
    - Bruno or Rash, if United find form, with fixtures until GW13
    - Trippier/Newcastle double def until GW12 or longer
    - AV picks GW8-14
    - Brighton picks GW10-13
    - Liverpool looks great in the foreseeable future
    - can easily add some WH in a long run
    - Saka seems season keeper
    - City being City

    1. mwa1t
      • 4 Years
      2 years, 2 months ago

Way forward for me is one of Maddy/Son + plus spurs def, one of Bruno/Rash, and one Newcastle defender. That leaves plenty of room for Villa, Brighton, Pool etc picks.

Doubling up is always risky, so i'm not convinced by teams that have Son, Maddy and Udogie. Especially risky on defenders, so Trippier + Botman seems overkill to me considering there are good options from Villa, Liverpool etc

Exciting time of the season, big decisions ahead.

Bowen and Kudus firmly on my radar. Not overly keen on Villa, except Digne/Moreno; I think WHU have experience with dealing with Europe and hence will cope better.

Can’t see anyone other than Salah being an option from Liverpool currently because they all rotate. An injury or two will change that big time.

Tbh its not really the stats that show his quality & potential; I try to use them to quantify & communicate it but its more an "eye test" thing really. I've watched every Villa game in full season & I'm absolutely convinced. At their best, they transition very quickly and the main outlet is almost always Diaby. His pace & dribbling look very tricky to deal with, and his finishing seems sharp from both inside & outside the area. Also obviously OOP & Villa really look like a side that can regularly put 3-4+ past weaker opponents

He's been Villa's best attacker by far. Underlyings aren't so relevant with him as he seems to be an excellent finisher. He was a very marginal offside away from another goal vs Palace, unlucky not to get the assist for Watkins vs Chelsea. Also hit the post several times. He's overlooked, imo...

He's hit the post, almost got the Watkins assist at the weekend, and has gone to St James' Park, Anfield, and Stamford Bridge in those first six games. Only two home games so far, too.

Went into the Newcastle game last weekend having lost almost 50 points on WC. My pre WC team had Watkins, Foden, Gvardiol, Mitoma and Johnstone and my WC team had Alvarez, Doku, Areola etc

3 Newcastle players in Trippier, Botman and Wilson somehow saved my gw but it was still disappointment as a whole. Did early transfers in bringing in Son and Morris for Mbeumo and Wilson.

Is it worth bringing in Kabore for a hit for Gusto? That's -2 instead of -4 hit imo and he may get an assist maybe.

Recording my latest WC Draft here, feel free to comment if you like.

    Turner/Leno
    Estu, Andersen, Walker, Bell/Kabore(tbc), Trippier
    Saka, Diaby, Maddison, Son, JWP
    Alvarez, Haaland, Morris
    0.2m itb

Would prefer Bowen over JWP, (0.1m short)

If I can gain 0.1m somewhere (hopefully from Botman rise before Bowen does) I'll have funds for Bowen & Alvarez instead of Pedro

    B. Kabore, Bowen, Watkins

B would mean having to start Botman, Cash and Udogie in defence each week with Kabore an Beyer as subs.

A would mean whoever had the worst fixture out of Estupinan, Botman, Cash and Udogie would be first sub, with Archer and Beyer.

Maybe Chilwell doesn't play LB at the weekend.

"I am so happy with Levi and the way he is playing. He is providing the team with a very good balance. Chilly has the possibility to play tomorrow. We were using him maybe not in his best position because he was a winger, that is why when we start to play with Mischa, our thought was to keep Levi in the position."

Who can they play at RB if James isn't ready? Caicedo? Is Chalobah fit?

        Caicedo could play there.

Chalobah still out - continuing to undergo his rehabilitation programme

    C) Make both transfer for a hit

Very much looking forward to Ashoka tomorrow, lots of cool theories out there. Good night everyone. I’m not sure there are any force users in FFS, welcome suggestions, but I’m actually a medieval Jedi. Not many people know that.

Would you do Gusto, Baldock to Schar, Botman (-4) ?

Feels like -4 is a small cost to get rid those 2 and get double NEW defence with great fixtures

Would you do Colwill ➡️ Digne this week and play over Udogie, or just wait until next week?

Seems like we might have to temper our expectations there:

Interesting as he was in the ECL squad last week.

2 GWs left until IB, I don't think I would be making the move to Digne before then.

Yeah he was an unused sub twice. But now it sounds like best case scenario for him is to start getting mins off the bench after the IB. Also raises doubts for me that he'll be an auto replacement for Digne at all anytime soon if the latter keeps his performance levels up

Not really a pressing move this week given the fixture. Maybe his assist potential is marginally higher than Udogie but I don't really see BHA being pinned back all that much to enable him to get a ton of crosses in. Think it might be quite a frantic high-tempo, high scoring game (maybe 2-2) but perhaps one that suits Diaby/Bailey more than Digne/Watkins

I made a rare early move this week, using 1 of 2 FTs to bank my 0.1 profit on Chilwell. Wouldn't be surprised if many did the same

Is Johny Evans a good pick & will he play next few games ? Thanks
