Morning, folks! In case you're wondering (probably not), the usual source for the press conference times has stopped emailing over the last couple of weeks. We're still trying to resolve that and see if it's possible to get them sent over. Until then, we're relying on the BBC and others.

Sarr/Archer is a rough combo. Sarr needs upgrading to JWP and Chilwell to Trippier.

Bench: Estu or Beyer / Archer / Baldock

For what it's worth for those arguing for selling Haaland before this upcoming run, here are his results from games last season:

    Arsenal - 2 games, 2G 2A
    Brighton - 2 games*, 2G 1A
    ManUtd - 2 games, 3G 2A
    Bournemouth - 2 games, 1G 1A
    Chelsea - 2 games**, 0G 0A
    Liverpool - 1 game, 0G 0A
    Spurs - 2 games, 1G 0A
    Villa - 2 games***, 1G 1A

*Second game was after the league was won
** Second game was after the league was won; played 16 mins
*** Played 45 mins in second game

Different factors at play now of course, but from my point of view all of these sides are leaker than they were last season (maybe excepting Liverpool, but TAA missed the first game and Haaland was injured for the second game). I've only captained Haaland twice so far and ironically see myself doing it far more in this run, although historically I have tended to attack fixtures against sides that I expect will attack more (like what ended up being the 6-3 v ManUtd last year)

It's a good point. People talk about small sample sizes but that's Haaland season 1...

Anything different can happen in season 2 including scoring away at these teams.

Keeping him is surely a must, I think the only real consideration is captaincy during these weeks where Son and Salah have very strong fixtures and he has his weakest.

      1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
        • 5 Years
        2 years, 2 months ago

To be honest I like seeing people thinking of doing different things (and heck, anything that brings down Haaland's EO and makes his points actually mean something is better for those of us that are keeping), but I'm just not sure everyone's fully thinking it through. City haven't really played any team yet that's properly had a go at them yet and when you look at their record against teams that tend to do it (or have done it in certain games) it'd be an enormous risk to take

    4. Joey Jo-Jo Junior Shabadoo
      • 5 Years

As someone who is 50/50 on removing him on a gw9 wildcard, there's no doubt that he will score a lot of points during this period. The question I'm asking myself is whether the reinvestment (14 m is a lot!) can deliver more points across the team, especially given the fact he won't be de facto captain for this entire run.

Removing him will allow for a massively upgraded team/squad chock full of Villa, Liverpool, West Ham and Brighton to attack immediate fixture swing. Plus Son. Maybe even a premium defender (remember those!).

      1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
        • 5 Years

I don't disagree, but my main worry with that would be what Zophar mentions in the article: if you spread the money across your entire squad, getting Haaland back could be very tricky and could require major surgery to your team

          • 5 Years

I think if I go without then it would be a commitment. Probably even includes not buying back until week 19, rather than 16. That would mean getting a lot more adventurous with captains, which I see as a plus tbh.

      Thanks for the post
I think if people want to take the risk & remove him or not captain they should go ahead I don't like discouraging people on how to play!

Personaly for me city are the best with best attack & haaland best striker in PL.
I am happy to own & captain pretty much upto his blank.

I fully expect there will be blanks along the way but trying to figure out where he will haul & where he will blank (in conjuction with an alternate captain that hauls) will take a lot of luck.

There's 10 other positions in my team that I can use to climb rank & I'm prefer to use those positions.

Either way, you should get rid of Chilwell.

Wilson was always a risk from GW1 to now. Not enough space in that team with Howe's formation for 90 every week.

Wonky logic. They've had three clean sheets in a row- popularity doesn't happen in a vacuum.

Not wonky logic at all. They should have conceded in the other 2 games and they played a terrible SHU. I am not impressed with their defence, at all.

Milan completely outplayed them, the game against SU was an anomaly. I can't speak for last night as I didn't see it but City had rotated a fair bit so it's hard to place huge stock in that game either. Regardless, missing out on one clean sheet and getting in on the act a week later will not end your season

Also popularity in FPL is not something I'd place too much stock in. I've seen people tripling up on Chelsea assets because of a single game and then binning the lot a couple of weeks later, I've seen people state Estupiñan and Mbeumo are "season keepers" and then saying they need to get rid of them a few weeks later too. For a lot of people a player's significance is determined by their last match and little else

I think Estupinan will start this weekend when I look at his mins since September IB. Also Lamptey played 90 mins last night so I don't think he can start another game
and play LB due to his injury history.

    What's your prediction?

16.09 Man United (A): 0 mins (not in the squad)
    21.09 AEK (A): 90 mins
    24.09 Bournemouth (H): 90 mins
    27.09 Chelsea (A): 90 mins
    30.09 Villa (A) 12:30 KO
    05.10 Marseille (A) 17:45 KO
    08.10 Liverpool (H) 14:00 KO
    Oct IB

It's going from bad to worse for me. I committed to dbl gw by going early Pedro=>Morris, then Gusto=>Kabore after Tues game for -4 🙁 I still have Chilwell along with Lewis, Estupiñán & Udogie in def with Saka & Maddison flagged in midfield and Salah, Neto & Sterling :(( Alvarez & Haaland complete my team but thinking of using my wildcard.

I could bring in Newcastle defense, Son, Bowen and another mid at 7mil.

    Wildcard or no?

    1. Brehmeren

If Saka and Maddison are out - yes.

If it's only Saka out I would just go Chilwell to Trippier, play Estu.

Although, most of your team from last week sounds a little risky.

    Morning, all.

2FTs and no WC. Thinking Chilwell to Cash and rolling the other. Giving Sterling one more chance.

Was also going to BB, but possible Botman and Saka injures have scuppered that.

    Ederson, Flekken

    Chilwell, Botman, Saliba, Estu, Bell

    Saka, Son, Diaz. Mbeumo, Sterling

    Haaland, Alvarez, Wissa.

Thank you for answering my question!

I'm no way inclined to sell Haaland, but will definitely be going against him in GW8 with a Spurs asset, and in GWs 9, 10 and 11 with Mo...

Sell Chilwell to fodder now? I have 4 other decent/good defenders. Or, I could do it next week for free.If Saka doesn't play, Udogie will be playing aginast Liverpool

If you don't sell for a starter I would wait until next gw with more info.

    Bench order ok here?

    Leno
    Trippier Estupinan Digne
    Son Maddison Saka Diaz Diaby
    Haaland Darwin
    (Flekken, Kabore, Porro, Archer)

[Chilwell - Kabore done; 2nd FT will be Wissa - Darwin but I haven't put it through yet]

You may as well play Kabore, over Digne probably

Looks solid although out if curiosity why did you bring in Kabore if you're benching, funds for Nunez move? Would be tempted to play over Digne but he could do well so it's a tough one, was a good game last year at VP on the last day

I've mapped out my defensive rotation for the medium-term & there's really no need for a 5th playing defender so just stuck a 4.0 in there to free up funds basically

Also trying to keep a reasonable path to Salah open for GW9 (can do it for -4). Not sure if I'll actually go that way but if Saka/Maddi were to pick up / aggravate an injury then I might

Whats up with Saka and Botman? Made some early rage transfers and now have those as worries (although bench of Sterling and Estu isnt the worst backup!)

    What to do with Bruno?

    a) Keep
    b) Swap to Maddison (depending on news)
    c) Swap to Son

    Current front 8
    Salah, Bruno, Diaby, Saka, Mbeumo
    Alvarez, Haaland, Archer

I'm trying to hold on the WC.

If Saka is out, would you...?
    A) Saka & Mbeumo to Son & JWP (-4)
    B) Saka to JWP (free)
    C) Play Estupinan (save ft)

    Onana
    Colwill Gabriel Trippier
    Mbeumo Maddison Saka Foden Rashford
    Haaland Alvarez

    Turner Estupinan Pedro Baldock

    0.4m itb
    1ft

Depends when you WC really. If GW9, and Saka confirmed out, then I'd probably ditch him. JWP is a nice option this week to pile on SHU's set piece misery but would much prefer Son for GW8

So I have Solly March... I love him. He hasnt played the last two games for Brighton though, so I assume he will be selected and up for it against Villa, who are letting in a surprising amount of goals. The games after that however (L'pool and Citeh) not too good, albeit he did very well against L'pool last season.

The downside is that I want Jarrod Bowen, for the Blades fixture really. But article says from GW9-10 is better.

Solly is in a higher scoring team, who can score against anyone but now prone to rotation, (dodgy fixtures 7-9)

Bowen is the main scoring threat in a low scoring team, with no rotation risk, (dodgy fixtures 8-9)

Long winded way of asking whether you would have March or Bowen?

    Any thoughts appreciated.

Solly March is a great long term hold, just live with the odd rotation, even in tough fixtures.
Bowen is also a great pick, like you say he plays every game, id get rid of someone else in your team for Bowen.
If I had to pick one for now itd have to be Bowen for the respective fixtures of both

        Thanks for the reply.

        My team is

        Botman / Akanji / Cash / Estupinan / Chilwell*
        Son / Salah / Saka / March / CHO
        Haaland / Alvarez / Archer

I could get rid of Chilwell and CHO to get JWP and Kabore.

But no real way of getting to Bowen without getting rid of someone I rate.

Is a -4 foolish this season,
Saka, Sterling and Chilwell to Son, Bowen and Cash?
If I get Trippier I can't afford Son

GK and Def picks this GW:

    A) Areola (SHU)
    B) Leno (CHE)

    1) Estupinan (avl)
    2) Udogie (LIV)

How's this -4 if Saka confirmed out?

Saka, Bruno, Rash to Salah, Son, Bowen.

Leaves 0.1 itb and would remove the need to wildcard

Maybe save the -4 and just do 2 of them? Rash vs Palace this week is a good fixture.
