A 1 pointer today is not a good advert for Salah’s talents but I think this was due to extenuating circumstances and he’s going to be reliable points scorer going forward

Well he got an assist didn’t he, and it was incorrectly chalked off.

      Good luck.
The best you can hope for sub-4.5 is regular starts and maybe a point or two, so probably one of the Burnley or Luton 4's and bank the rest.
I'm willing Beyer to drop to 3.9 to replace Gusto, but as above Charlie Taylor is getting good minutes as well.

Serious question, but what actually happens when referees and VAR screw up?
It's still the same nonsense every week, and it's been at least 5 years since VAR was implemented.
Maybe if they were actually held accountable, or fined / fired for sheer incompetence, we might actually rid of these basic human errors.
We've had enough "full-investigations" from PGMOL, why don't you do something different for a change....

Unfortunately the most that has happened in recent times is they get suspended for a gameweek of officiating and are back in shortly after. So very little accountability

Human errors are precisely that. There are vast over reactions when VAR goes wrong . Rarely does anyone ever praise VAR when it works properly. Yes the system is imperfect but just one question. Have you ever refereed? I doubt it very much. The game is played at pace , things happen very quickly and to top that an official frequently has to decide whether a player is cheating or not . There are do many armchair critics of refs who have no idea. Are players fined for incompetence ?

      1. nerd_is_the_werd

I don't need to referee to see with the naked eye that is not offside.
These idiots are paid the big bucks to deliver a service and do their jobs...
Why were there no lines drawn? Could they not understand the magnitude of their decisions?

We don't want to hear excuses for getting it wrong.... DON'T GET IT WRONG IN THE FIRST PLACE!

VAR is never an issue in UEFA Champions League.
If these refs can't deal with the "pace" of the situation, they are not fit for the job.... simple....

VAR thought the goal was given on field, checked it was onside and said check complete, thinking the goal was given.

Are you criticising the VAR process or referees or both ?
Believe you me if you haven't refereed you really have no idea whatsoever. Do you get sacked or fined of you make an error of judgement in your job ? Of course you don't. Get real.

Let's put it this way..... Spurs v Liverpool is a 6-pointer game.
That offside decision could cost a team Champions League, title deciders, basically millions in revenue for one club.
You don't get to make a basic "human-error" which is totally avoidable and be in a position of power to make decisions.

There are different level of "error", and you don't compare what any public sector worker does with referees.
As I said before, these guys are paid the big bucks to make the big decisions... how do you explain the Wolves "non-penalty" v Man Utd? - We've seen loads of examples of incompetency from VAR.

Call it what you want, I am criticising the refs, process whatever it is that led to a basic "human-error".....

I agree with this. Asking for people rose their jobs is not the answer (unless there was some evidence of fraud or illegal activity). But they should do bettter and they should openly look at ways that they can protect against this sort of thing happening again.

    3. DARE TO BISCAN

A lack of officials to choose from is probably a big factor in the errors being made. VAR means more officials are needed per match. Firing them, for human error, won't help that.

That being said. The Diaz 'off-side' decision seemed more than human error. The way it was decided so quickly, without showing the usual lines on the screen. When in real-time and replays, he looked clearly onside. Didn't seem right.

The Jones redcard, you could debate either way. So, acceptable decision. The off-side? That should be a simple, fact-based call. Not acceptable.

I don't know if officiating is worse than in the past. It's definitely more scrutinized, with more hysteria around it

As i said above, VAR thought the goal was given on field, checked it was onside and said check complete, thinking the goal was given. Huge error.

A statement issued by the referees' body read: "PGMOL acknowledge a significant human error occurred during the first half of Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool.

"The goal by Luiz Diaz was disallowed for offside by the on-field team of match officials. This was a clear and obvious factual error and should have resulted in the goal being awarded through VAR intervention, however, the VAR failed to intervene. PGMOL will conduct a full review into the circumstances which led to the error."

All they say is that the VAR failed to intervene. Who is saying that is the reason why they didn't intervene?

The article says...."The VAR Darren England incorrectly thought the onfield decision was "goal," quickly identified that Díaz was onside and told the onfield team "check complete" to confirm the goal. But when referee Simon Hooper was told this, he understood the decision made by the assistant as being correct.

That meant that rather than the decision being changed to goal, it remained disallowed."

                  Yes, the article says...

Ok, now here come the questions.....

How did VAR come to the conclusion that the goal was given?
And how were they allowed to communicate the "incorrect" decision?

We're all watching the same game... HOW CAN YOU GET THAT WRONG??

          1. _Ninja_
            • 15 Years
            2 years, 6 months ago

The linesman keeps the flag down until after the goal (as they've been told to do). As soon as the goal goes in Darren England on VAR assumes its given on field and checks VAR quickly, its onside and says 'check complete'. To the ref that means it confirms linesman's decision that its offside. I don't know how VAR cant then chat the ref and says...Ooops

If you're relying on hand signals to communicate offside decisions, something is fundamentally wrong with the game.

Let's be clear here... I don't support Liverpool or Spurs... but incompetency at this level in the so called, best league in the world is inexcusable...

Sound like a broken record... HOW CAN YOU GET THAT WRONG?!?

Is getting Douglas Luiz for 2-3 weeks acceptable/advisable (on pens, great fixtures) to make this WC team happen? Brighton mids coming in later:

    Areola (Turner)
    Trippier Udogie Estu (Botman Taylor)
    Salah Luiz Maddison Son Diaby
    Watkins Haaland (Archer)

I've been contemplating it too if Diaby is out. Could just move to Bowen but Luiz is solid. On setpieces and penalties, and he's one of the best in FPL for bps when he gets a return. I mean he picked up 2 today despite Diaby getting 2 returns or the likes of Cash picking up a return too

    1.4itb. 1ft.

Agree mate they will!! I can get
To Salah easy if I lose Saka and Rashford to Salah and Anderson and play 3-4-3, so the Diaz
And Darwin option could be a nice different one to explore!!

I'd find Darwin hard to resist if I hadn't got Salah already. He could easily be the next Watkins haulwagon especially with Gapko looking like he will miss out next week

I think your selling him to
Me mate!!!! Could be right!!! And Liverpools fixtures are tasty for a while now!! Just watching Match of the day!! Morris could have hauled today!! Haha scored, hit the bar, and one ruled out, making me want to keep
              Him haha…. Not really

Haha watching MOTD myself. I think holding off a few days is the best option now for transfers. Unless you are really tight for cash for Darwin transfer that is. Morris has very little goals expected in open play until today so not sure how good an option he will be after this DGW

                  Yeah I agree mate!! I’m
So impulsive sometimes!! Haha yeah he looked good today mate, took his goal well, he’s my vice captain!! Wish I’d captained him now!! Could have got away with it.

Would have been sweet. It's so tempting to go against Haaland each week to gain some points on the majority

I agree mate!! Especially in the away games!! I think there’s
Going to be some opportunities coming up or us!!

Think I’m doing mine shortly. Feel like I have a clear view now of what team I want (actually i did last week but decided to hold) and going to get priced out of it if I don’t do it now. Good luck!

Think I will risk it and do it tonight.

    Foden to Neto

Probably not. Newcastle has Wash Ham away, surely they can’t keep clean sheet and Trippier can deliver assists at this rate.

    RMWCT please?

    Salah - Bowen - Saka - Maddison - Longstaff
    Haaland - Watkins - Archer

Any way to get Son, you reckon?

      Go go go.

Already did Saka to Son and considering Bruno to Maddison for an hit. Look above.

Haven't owned Bruno all season but I'd be reluctant to sell him before Brentford at home. United have to respond at some stage and score a few
