Does this team need WC? Any help greatly appreciated

    Alternatively I could do Sterling + Haaland > Salah + Watkins (-4)

    Onana - Areola
    Tsimikas - Udogie - Trippier - Gusto - Beyer
    Bruno - Son - Sterling - Mitoma - Maddison
Haaland - Alvarez - Joao Pedro

No Salah is a concern. 5th defender and Pedro not so hot. Would spring for 1 good GK, not Onana PLUS Areola. Bruno and Sterling don't rock my boat...borderline WC here imo.

        Rocking the boat is bad.

        Floating the boat is good.

Can you afford a GK if you do Bruno/Sterling/Onana to Salah/Palmer/GK?

Easy WC imo you will be behind the curve even in terms of transfers. Good chance to reset your team with the fixtures swing. What are you saving it for exactly? No better time imo

    2 Free Transfers - 1.2 Bank
    Alisson(5.5)-Areola(4.1)
    Estupiñán(5.0)-Udogie(4.7)-Burn(4.6)-Cash(4.9)-Tavares(4.0)
    Son(9.3)-Saka(8.5)-Maddison(7.9)-Mbeumo(6.6)-JWP(6.3)
    Haaland(14.0)-Watkins(8.0)-Alvarez(6.8)

    A-Son-Saka to Salah-Neto - 0.5 remains
    JWP/Mbeumo/Neto rotate bench
    or
    B-Son-Watkins to Salah-Archer - 1.3 remains
    Archer perma-bench

Son must go to get Salah
Comes down to Saka or Watkins

    Okay… hear me out

I think fixtures are more important than form.

If haaland had 3-4 green upcoming fixtures in a row, players wouldn’t be getting rid of him.

Another good example is mitoma. Not great form recently, but has great fixtures coming up and many are looking to get him in. Same with Browen. Martinelli. Lots are doing Son to Saka due to this as well.

    Fixtures create form imo.

    Also a few beers deep

Literally only two teams that are out of whack.

Could argue Spurs and Brighton have been over performing and will come back down to earth.

I don’t see spurs on top 3 ahead of Man City, arsenal, Lvpool, even newcastle.

Manutd and Chelsea are internally troubled for non footballing reasons. Issues with owners.

Key to the form v. fixtures debate is underlyings/eye test. If the fixtures are good and the player looks dangerous, form doesn’t matter much.

Son has banked against Sheff U, Luton & Bournemouth this season ... fixtures are a good thing to attack but not the be all and end all.

How many points do you think a wildcard is worth?

As in how many points of a hit is it worth taking to preserve a wildcard? -8? -12?

      Interesting question!

If you are looking at a -16 or -12 then I would seriously look at the viability of using a WC.

A WC will also let you reset minor squad players, where you wouldn't normally waste a valuable transfer.

The rewards of a WC won't appear over 1 gameweek, but hopefully over at least 4 plus weeks.

So I would say the value would be from 12 to 50 plus pts.

      Agree with Hotdogs.
Points seem to be spread around with Arsenal.
I find Martinelli the most fun but he does tend to get slightly less mins. Saka just didn't look quite right yesterday but is probably the most sensible pick.

Difficult to say, Ode probably has higher xMins but it is down to game state. Trossard available lowers Martinelli xMins.

0.3m itb. Could either do mubama > archer or jwp > mitoma. Bit concerned about mitomas minutes with EL games upcoming. Plus the March injury could affect Brightons attack.

I'd stick with Alvarez, especially if you got him for cheap, as every 0.1 matters in a season with Haaland, Salah, Son, Saka and Trippier all firing. He's an easy hold until KDB returns

I know it's difficult to do, and it's difficult for me as well, but maybe we have to view Watkins' haul vs Brighton as an outlier compared with his returns in other games this season

That's quite the number of games with a solitary (sometimes just fantasy) assist when Villa scored 3+ goals. That's not a talisman, and I don't know why

Could be poor finishing or bad luck, but it reminds me of something similar Watkins did when Villa wrecked Liverpool in 2020. He could make this a moot point by exploding vs West Ham or Luton, but this is my observation based on what's already happened so far

          1. Ze_Austin
            • 7 Years

Another way to put this is that you could get DIaby instead for the good run, then move on to any of the other good mids when fixtures turn

To be clear, I don't think Watkins is a bad asset. Getting at least one return in most GWs is a sign of a great asset, and those are golden fixtures

My issue is with losing Alvarez, Son, Saka or Salah to get him, especially when Diaby can slot in at 6.7m

    A) Maddison
    B) Son
    C) Bruno
    to
    1) Palmer
    2) Gordon
    3) Soucek
Which one transfer? Enabling Rashford to Salah. Currently thinking A3.

GW10 cap options going to be difficult to decide.

Saka SHU (H), Salah NFO (H) or Watkins LUT (H)

Saka is a penalty queen, he has been absent otherwise. He could do some damage to SHU, but he's not been super great in 2023. Ode could snake a penalty kick from him, never know. Saka would be on 6 goals if he took all the PKs.

Wetlegs could do damage to LUT, no telling. He misses a lot of chances. But he should get many versus LUT

Salah could wreck NFO. Nobody is stealing his PKs and he won't miss like Watkins' routinely does.

Has to be one of the penalty takers and think Salah can be trusted as your cap pretty much each GW.

      I think I'd go Watkins + Anderson + Lascelles + Taylor > Archer + Diaby + Coufal + Andersen(Palace) or Guehi. Palace defender becomes Colwill in GW16

Rotating defenders around fixtures seems vital this season

Seems like Doku is messing up Haaland. Small sample size, but all of EH's stats are down as Doku has played more and more.

In other days, MCI would have won today 4-1 or 5-1.

Pep needs to use a proper world class player like Grealish in the wing. Of course, KDB is sorely missed since game-1.

Also, Gundo and Mahrez have not been replaced.

Yeah, Haaland has only had 5 shots in his last four PL games. Very much down compared to GW's before that.

I have not checked his CL stats but in his last five CL matches he has failed to score.

In the first six league games of the season he averaged about 1.3 xGi per game. In the last three league games he had 0.26, 0.17 and 0.09. It's becoming hard to justify his selection considering his form, cost, and upcoming fixtures.

He needs Kdb. Foden was the one who I thought would have a special season with no Mahrez & Gundo. Turns out I was actually thinking wrong.

      In this team, it's Mitoma

I like Son + Soucek over Maddison + Mitoma though, with Son being more explosive as a captaincy option and Soucek's stats leaping since Moyes gave him the new box-crashing role in GWs 7 and 8

Turner is a problem in my team & he will never breath fresh air in my starting xi ever again!

I have decided to save ft, all because I need to get rid of this bum. Even McGovern of Norwich did a better job for me in 2019.

Turner is simply an anti fpl goalie.
Give him juicy fixtures & watch him excrete on them.

If you have Areola, you won't need Turner for many weeks to come. I am keeping Turner, cheap and GK rotation has not worked well for me at all this season. Spending too much on GK's always makes you end up taking them out due to being short on cash.

Hmmm fair enough…I love points from goalies especially in bad gws So I gotta bin Turner. Not sure if Areola would do the job for the whole season… just gotta pick a good replacement & rotate, my replacement would gladly do a better job.

...and who's that, especially in GW9? Alisson? Pope? Raya? Sanchez?

          Ederson?

Or you'd have stuck with Flekken after he did so badly for so long?

          Pickford?

Turner is the cheapest of a truly bad bunch this season

Best I can think of is Johnstone from GW11, then switch to Sanchez in GW16. But the Areola Turner works all the way to GW19

Tbh I don’t care about the price. Onana is better than Turner ffs. You can’t predict his pts. Out for Leno, Areola for the next few. Hoping 2 ft comes in handy.m

          Neto, Palmer or Gordon.

All three very good and cheap enablers. Palmer's fixtures are not great for the next six GW's though.

Soucek for me until he becomes Palmer in GW15, depending on Soucek's role today. If he's still box-crashing like the last 2 matches, then I'll assume Moyes will continue with the tactic... Somewhat like Son moving up top for Ange

Soucek also a good shout but if you already own Bowen or JWP then you will be doubling up on midfield.

Oh yeah, agree. I would avoid doubling up on Hammers mids with the great options from other teams. It's JWP to Soucek for me, an enabler to go Mbeumo to Saka(VC)

I haven’t used my wildcard yet, and not sure what to do… I could get any of these front eigths with a couple of moves. And wildcard later, if needed. Which one is the best option? Thoughts?

    A. ”No Haaland”:
    Salah Saka Maddison Bowen Son
    Watkins Alvarez Jesus/Isak

    B. ”No Son” / 352
    Salah Saka Maddison Bowen Mitoma
    Haaland Alvarez Archer

    C. ”No Son” / 343
    Salah Saka Bowen Mitoma Nakamba
    Haaland Alvarez Watkins

Standard Howe, but I think this is the first time I've seen him admit the obvious fact that he lies/hides stuff in his pressers for tactical reasons
