Feeling mudded this week, got 80 pts / tsimikas benching killed me

    0.0 ITB / 1 FT

What do you suggest doing here after the IB if everything goes well ?

    Areola ( Turner )
Tripps Cash Gabriel ( Tsimi, Taylor )
    Saka Salah Mitoma Bowen Palmer
    Haaland Alvarez ( Archer )

Can't see a massive need for change although I'd be looking at getting out on Alvarez and Mitoma if it were me. Brighton just haven't lived up to what they ought to be, might get better attacking wise when some of the injuries return but 3 goals returned from Fulham, Everton, Sheff Utd (1 of those an OG) coupled with the rotation just doesn't make them seem worth it currently. Haaland's back as the main man now so you don't need Alvarez and I wouldn't fancy owning both over that blank which looms large.

I would save then use 2FT for Mitoma to Mbeumo and Alvarez to someone else. Maybe use Trippier in a -4 if needs be.

Moves I'm considering with 3 FTs between GW13-14.

    Anything else worth considering?

    GW13: Cash to Saliba/ City Def/ Castagne
GW14: Bowen to Mbeumo and Adingra to Palmer

    2FT 0.3ITB
    Areola
    Cash Guehi Gabriel
    Salah Adingra Saka Bowen Son
    Haaland Watkins Archer
    (Turner Adingra Livramento Taylor)

Cash to Saliba looks good but I would find a route to Mbeumo for GW14 without losing Bowen.

One possible move is downgrading Watkins to Solanke/6.5m FWD. I don't think I want to downgrade my 2nd FWD spot to fit both Mbeumo and Bowen.

Alternatively is to downgrade Salah/Son/Saka and I'm not too sure that is the correct play yet. I'll probably give Son another game or two to see if the impact without Maddison continues

Sounds good. I'm struggling to see the appeal of Castagne tbh & think its still a bit early for City defenders fixture-wise, so would probably go for the Arsenal double up of those options

Cheap option and fixture play for 13, 15 and 18. It could also be Robinson at 4.4m.

I'd steer clear of City defenders. I've owned Ruben Dias for about 8 GWs and it's been mostly awful. They always seem to concede even with Rodri back in the side.

'looks set to lose his spot, starts because of an unknown Gomez injury'

Based on what? Some of the rhetoric people post on Twitter is misleading as they post opinion as fact. You'd think with the amount of smugness some of these big accounts have, they'd be doing a whole lot better than they currently are.

to be fair Tsimi did lose his spot against Luton and then they both played together midweek so it was very up in the air about whether he played or not. I've heard something about Klopp not wanting him when they have physical opponents/aerial threat. The concern there is if that is true he'll probably get benched for all of the games against the sides down the bottom.

Klopp alluding to tactics is not equal to Tsimikas starting to because of Gomez injury as per tweet suggestion

          • 11 Years

I would put Brentford right up there on the physicality front so maybe Bakar also heard this tactical thing and felt without Gomez getting injured Tsimikas wouldn't have played. To be honest I don't know where I heard this about the tactics so it could all just be rumours and nobody knows anything. Tsimikas is a rotation risk without question though

Yeah you're right that the tactical omission theory remains untested & I'm not particularly inclined to defend BMB from some of these charges, but tbh I don't think Tsimikas starting was ever a certainty & if/when Gomez is back it'll continue to be an unresolved debate

Completely agree. Was saying it all week, the way people were just making up their minds that Gomez had taken Tsimikas's spot was ridiculous. Tsimikas getting subbed off at HT played into their narrative, despite is quite obviously (to me anyway) being a planned subsitution to share minutes. Now all these people saying he only played because Gomez was injured... nonsense.

How do you know that Tsimikas was a planned substitution? You really don't know that at all.

        1. Bubz

Basic common sense. Klopp made 3 half time substitutions in the Europa league game against Royal Union. He made 3 half time substitutions against Toulouse. They are clearly planned subs.

      2. Tonyawesome69
        • 7 Years

Not sure how Tsimikas half time sub after a big mistake and going 1-0 down is a planned sub. It was clear to me the setup wasn't working and Klopp had to make 3 subs.

        1. Bubz
          • 12 Years

Again, this whole "he made a mistake so was subbed off" narrative is ridiculous. Klopp does not sub people off at half time because of a mistake. He's one of the best man managers in the world, it's not his style whatsoever.

It contributed to the half time sub imo. I also mentioned the setup wasn't working as well

How do you explain the 3 half time subs Klopp also made against Royal Union in the Europa league then? They were winning the game 1-0 at half time

I didn't watch the game so Klopp could have made planned half time subs in that particular game especially when it involves Salah and Darwin subbed off. I just don't think you can use the same reason for the Toulouse game imo

Come on, you think Klopp wanted to sub on his heavy hitters in TAA, Szobo and Salah at half time over giving fringe players more game time? Pretty clear to me the team was poor and Klopp had to make changes

He brought on Mac Allister for Endo at half time vs Union. A first team player for a fringe player. Going by your logic, he wouldn't want to do this?

100% this. Suggesting that Klopp planned to bring on three of his most important players at half time is complete rubbish. You really think if Liverpool were 2-0 up he makes those changes? No chance.

Of course he does. Every manager makes substitutions based on what's working and what isn't. To say he never does that is a ridiculous comment.

Played this game 14 years now, and never have I been as gutted with the outcome of my weekly transfers as this week.

Tsimikas (15 points) to Lascelles (0 points) and
Alvarez (5 points) to Ferguson (0 points - sub, Taylor, 1 point)

And all this on the same week as an international break!

What a load of rollocks. Rant over.

its amazing how often seemingly good transfers instantly come back to haunt you, i sold Foster for DCL last week for example, a good move on paper but getting DCL meant i benched Palmer for his 2 pens in a row while DCL blanked, that's just the way it goes sometimes 🙁

Why did you sign a defender on a tired team severely weakened by injuries?
Why did you sign a striker who's not guaranteed minutes?

Instead of ranting, maybe think about your decision making?

Just thought Lascelles at 4.0 represented good value in the medium term and Newcastle were still good value for a clean sheet, based on recent results, despite the injuries added games.

Ferguson, granted, a bit of a risk, but one worth taking I hoped given the opposition and the injury to Welbeck and others.

      Can’t win ‘em all!

What are peoples thoughts on Watkins going forward?

I'm looking for ways to get Mbeumo and it might be downgrading him to Awoniyi / Solanke to allow Anderson to Mbeumo, however Watkins has just chugged along all season so feels risky to get rid.

I've had him from the beginning and even when not hauling he's been good for an assist or goal most weeks so in a season where the strikers aren't great, is it daft to move on someon who is consistent?

    1. Sir Michael Taker
      • 11 Years
      2 years, 5 months ago

I think he's a great long-term option but you can't predict his hauls. He'll be the 2nd highest scoring striker in the game by the season end I'd be pretty sure. I'm starting to come round to the idea of setting him and Haaland for the season and leaving it as I don't fancy any of the other strikers long-term but I'm on a 3-5-2 and if I was on a 3-4-3 I'd be leaving them and swapping out the other one.

Set and forget pick. Too consistent and as long as Villa have no injuries their attack is flying. His fixtures are pretty good too as I think he thrives in games he finds space to run like tot,MCI,ARS

Wouldn't want to lose Diaby against the high line Spurs defence.
      Gordon not fussed either way.
Bowen in - Very good option
Palmer . Surely his run is not sustainable if Chelsea get fewer pens. Still great value though.

FWIW my midfield is Salah , Saka , Martinelli , Bowen , Diaby.
Martinelli is the one i would consider transfering out but can't see a better option for the next couple of weeks.

I'm losing Watkins in GW14 to bring back Haaland.

Though if you already have Haaland, then Darwin is the next best option to bring in. Jackson has still managed to look poor despite 4 goals in his last 2. He won't face a makeshift defence and ridiculous high line like Spurs again (well at least not until Chelsea play Spurs again) and he's been booked 7 times already this season with 6 of them being for gobbing off and showing dissent.

Super early tinkering. 2ft and 0.9itb. WC also available

    Johnstone
    Saliba Schär Udogie
    Salah Son Bowen Diaby Palmer
    Haaland Watkins

    Turner; Pau, Kabore, Mubama

Feel like Udogie an maybe Pau are sells next week but can't really see who I'd bring in...

Maybe downgrade Turner to a 3.9 to avoid burning the transfer. Or Kabore to Tsimikas - the first XI is fine for GW13 and Tsimikas can slot into the team after the City game.

If you had 2FT, would you do Cash to Saliba now, to beat the price rise tonight?

I wouldn't. Information over team value always! If You can't afford Saliba later Zinchenko and Gabriel are good option to cover although not as nailed.

Personally I wouldn't at the start of an Int break.....but I can see why you would here as Cash has been a big disappointment and I'd nearly get rid myself as well lol

    2 FT (1.0mill ITB)

    Areola Turner
    Trent Gabriel Cash Livramento Taylor
    Salah Saka Son Bowen Gordon
    Watkins Nunez Alvarez

GW 8 WC went without Haaland (6 week plan) & Trippier (punt on Trent) and gone from OR 2.2k -->> 325k.
2 unreal GW's with big green arrows followed by 3 poor enough GWs with 3 small red arrows.

Trent punt has really really hurt though I must say. Tsimikis wasn't even an option in GW 8 but now it's a given to downgrade Trent to Tsimi in order to fund Haaland back in right?

I have the same predicament and have a lot of the same players. The Trent punt has really burned us with very little reward for the amount he has cost.

I only have 1 FT this week and my plan is to lose Watkins, Trent and Son to bring in Haaland, Mbeumo and Tsimikas by GW14. I'd have to take a -4 for this to happen but as you have 2FT, you can do the Trent to Tsimikas move now and you should be able to get Haaland back with 2FT in time for when he plays Spurs's makeshift defence in GW14

Yes Mbeumo has Arsenal and Haaland has Pool so those 2 FT can wait to 14. Will do Trent to Tsimikis this week to fund it.

Would mean Watkins or Nunez up to Haaland. Would need a hit to afford Alvarez up to Haaland.

Could be. Hate the fact that Haaland and Salah play against each other in the first game of the week. It never works out capping the player playing in the early kick off... And when they blank the weekend is ruined 😀

This is the week for a punt. Bowen or Son are my current front runners

I don't think Haaland is a great option at all this week against Van Dijk who plays him well.
Salah away i'm not keen on, especially away to City

If you feel punty then Bowen is the clear option over Son imo. Spurs attack looked really bad against Wolves and Son was non-existent.

I have Son to Mbeumo pencilled in for GW 14. Think Villa DF away from home isn't great but yes Bowen would be my preferred pick v Burnley

    Who has to go?

1 FT, 1 mill. in the bank

    Areola
    Andersen Cash Trippier
    Diaby Gordon Salah Mbeumo Son
    Haaland Alvarez

    Flekken Archer Tsimikas Kabore

No rush to get Diaby, Gordon or Mbeumo out for the likes of Bowen, Palmer or Saka?

Why would you sell Mbeumo when most are looking to bring him in soon? I think Gordon is still ok to hold but Diaby might be a sell after gw14.

Some lucky Tsimikas points this week, if I had a spare FT he would have been gone. Anyway, this g2g to hold over the IB? 1FT and 0.2 ITB

    Flekken (Areola)
    Trippier Saliba Cash (Udogie) (Tsimikas)
    Salah Son Bowen Mbeumo Palmer
    Haaland Alvarez (Archer)

Who would you recommend? Palace defender or do you think right down to a Lascelles or Taylor and bank the saving?

I wouldn't go near Palace myself with Pool/City on the horizon. Lascelles to free up a mill seems logical. I went Livramento last week but that's dodge as we saw with the lineup

Newcastle play Chelsea next, Hall can't play so Tino should be guaranteed to start that at least.

People here debating whether benching benching Tsim was a good/bad decision retrospectively, meanwhile I have a non negotiable bench of Taylor and Baldock and have no such worries.

Not really if he's got an "unbreakable and longstanding personal commitment in the Netherlands" (which nobody knows the details of) - it's just not that deep. Half the squad (including the club captain) ain't there either.
