How FPL Blank Gameweek 29 looks after the FA Cup replays

The results of the midweek FA Cup fourth-round replays are significant for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers.

The quarter-finals of the FA Cup are on the same weekend as Gameweek 29, so there’ll be scheduled league fixtures postponed as a result of that clash.

And with many of the surviving big boys being given favourable draws in the round of 16, it could be quite a big Blank Gameweek.

But Chelsea’s win over Aston Villa on Wednesday means that we now know three Premier League fixtures will go ahead as planned.

Here’s the lowdown.

FA CUP FIFTH ROUND DRAW

  • Blackburn vs Newcastle
  • Chelsea vs Leeds
  • Bournemouth vs Leicester
  • Liverpool vs Southampton
  • Nottingham Forest vs Manchester United
  • Wolves vs Brighton
  • Coventry vs Maidstone
  • Luton vs Manchester City

FPL BLANK GAMEWEEK 29 SUMMARY

The draw for the first round of the 2019/20 FFS Cup

So, three Gameweek 29 fixtures are confirmed as unaffected by the FA Cup clash that weekend.

It’s very plausible that we get as many as six blanks, with seven being the maximum.

If all goes to plan in terms of the bookies’ favourites, the following fixtures will be the only ones going ahead in Gameweek 29:

  • Fulham v Spurs
  • Burnley v Brentford
  • West Ham v Aston Villa
  • Luton v Nottm Forest

To get seven blanks, we’d need to see wins for Newcastle, Chelsea, Bournemouth, Liverpool, Brighton, Man Utd and Luton in the FA Cup fifth round.

WHEN WILL WE KNOW FOR SURE WHICH GAMEWEEK 29 FIXTURES ARE GOING AHEAD?

We won’t know about the confirmed blanks until the midweek before Gameweek 27, when the FA Cup fifth round takes place.

In gw25,would you sell Trippier or Gabriel for Taa?Have Raya.

Don't think TAA is actually that good. Likely gets rotated. If I didn't already have him I wouldn't bring him in.

          Risky xMins imo.

What's your xMins for DGW25 with the final and Bradley in mind?

          17.02 Brentford (A) 12:30pm
          21.02 Luton (H) 7:30pm
          25.02 Chelsea EFL Final 3pm

3x City + TAA and Jota enough for DGW26? Can then field full 11 in 26 with a -4 and already have 8 players confirmed for 29.

      I'm thinking

      TC GW25, FH GW29, WC GW36, BB GW37

Allows you to use FTs to strengthen your current squad (including more DGW25 and DGW28'ers) without worrying about who blanks and doesn't in GW29.

Allows you to keep the in form highly owned players you currently have TV tied up in for another 12 GW's

I don't currently see no FH in GW34 being a major issue it could just be a single GW if the weekend postponed fixtures are moved to midweek, and if City and Pool make the FA Cup semi finals they will only have a maximum of one PL fixture that GW, Spurs also won't double if City make the semi, and Arsenal chances depend on Wolves not making the semi final, and their GW29 fixture v Chelsea if it's postponed being moved to GW34, not GW37.

Interesting differential strategy for those with teams that are well set up for the BB. Solanke TC? I'm tempted by that.

      BB 25, WC 31, FH 34 or 37, TC 28, 34 or 37.

Im on WC now, BB in GW25, Field 11 for free in 26, TC in 28 and probably FH 29 depending how the fixtures fall.

Surely you can navigate 29 with FTs if you’re on WC24? Got to set up for that.

I’m strongly considering FH25, if not likely FH29.

BB and TC in the two late doubles with WC after 30 as needed.

    Porro Estupinan Trippier
    KDB Foden Richarlison Saka Palmer
    Haaland Watkins

Amissah Archer Branthwaite Konsa - 1 FT, 1.0M ITB

Interested to see your thoughts on this team and chip strategy.

0 LIV players, so planned transfer for this week is Saka to Jota. If next week I bring in another Liverpool player for DGW25 (Darwin?), it would leave me with following blankers in 26: Palmer, Rich, Porro, Jota, 2nd LIV, + Archer and Branthwaite (vs bha) starting. Does WC26 make sense here, or is it better to save it for the later DGWs? Thinking FH in BGW29 at the moment.

    7. The Biscuitmen
      • 1 Year
      3 months, 13 days ago

That feels like the best plan to me, would be making sub-optimal transfers until 29 to get 8-9 players out. I feel like I'm missing something obvious with so many people that know a lot more about the game than I do saying that would be a bad idea!

      1. FFS ManU
        • 1 Year
        3 months, 13 days ago

I don't think that you are missing anything. If you are going to have a lot less players available in a GW than your rivals will then using the free hit is a good option.

  7. Bob B
    • 10 Years
    3 months, 13 days ago

    A. Doughty (-4), two doubles, one blank, would need to take the hit to field 11 in GW26
    B. Pinnock, doubles in 26 and does not blank in 29
    C. Pau, no doubles, no blanks.

From what I’ve seen he’s training and on a bike etc. won’t be long so imo he will be ok for 25, however after an injury plus Cup Final a few days after second game, who knows how much he’ll play? I’d wait a bit longer personally unless actually declared fully fit before this weeks game I guess

    3. Carefree Crew
      • 5 Years
      3 months, 13 days ago

Training on a bike doesn't use the hamstring. It's standard practice with a hamstring injury to cycle to maintain cardio fitness without using the injured muscle. If you're basing his return on this perhaps you should re-evaluate?
With 3 games over 8 days Saturday brentford, Wednesday LUTON, Sunday (Final) it suggests limited PL minutes even "if" he is fit in 9 days time.
Unless Klopp confirms he's in full team training, kicking a ball & fit & ready to play some minutes this weekend, I don't think he's going to be an option for DGW 25.

        • 5 Years

Spot on. Needs to have mins this weekend to be worth considering in 25. Even then there are still have issues with xMins when you take into consideration grade 2 muscle injury and 3 games in 8 days including cup final

    Which one is better?
    A. Saka -> Jota now. Then bgw26 Jota -> Saka (-4)
    B. Just keep Saka

Basically which scores more, Saka or Jota (-4) over a 3 week period? Jota would be my fifth and final dgw25 player.

My gw29 depends on how I play my gw24 and 25. If I only go with 4 dgw25 players it makes more sense to save FH29 since I can easilt get minimum 9 players for that week without any hits. Then WC in 30/31. Thinking it makes sense to not get too many dgw25 players from Pool since they are blanking in 26. Don't really like bringing them in and then immediately selling for a -4 when players like Saka and Watkins/Solanke can outscore the likes of Jota and Darwin when you include the hits. Especially when I'm not captaining those guys anyways (TC Haaland in 25)

    What would you do here?
    Flekken Areola
    TAA Saliba Porro Estu Gusto
    KDB Foden Rich Gordon Palmer
    Haaland Watkins Pedro

    A) Rich to Jota
    B) Porro, Gordon to Kilman, Jota (-4)
    C) Porro, Palmer to Van Hecke, Jota (for free next week)
    D) Estu, Porro, Palmer to Botman, Kilman, Jota (-4 next week)

If you’ve kept him n think he’ll start then keep n Captain to catch people out depending on your situation

Why keep when he's unavailable and sell when he's available?

i had no need to sell him, lots of cash freed up from selling salah , other midfielders were all scoring and son wasnt injured

I think that it might be Jota's turn to start on the bench this week. Klopp rotated an in form Darwen last week and home v Burnley looks good for him to manage the minutes of another key player.

    Whats everyone's plan's for BGW26?

Going to be tricky, especially with Liverpool, Man City, Luton and Brentford all doubling in GW25

Gordon + Watkins to Jota + Alvarez good moves? After that 3 city attackers and TAA + Jota for GW25. And could get 11 players for GW26 with -4… Thoughts?

That's my current plan. Not to say Haaland won't do well in 25, just think BB does well in that week.

I should have 15 players playing in GW25 so I might even BB.

I can then invest my wildcard cash into a strong starting 11 on my wildcard.

1ft and 1.9itb what would you do here and based on the squad when do you think it best to use my WC?

    Currently thinking Bowen > Jota

    Dubravka
    Gabriel, Estu, Porro
    KDB, Foden, Palmer, Bowen
    Haaland, Solanke, Watkins

    Areola, JWP, Beyer, Konsa

Bowen to Jota a good move. Don't need to use your WC for a while

Things not looking great for me for DGW25, but in a relatively decent place for blanks in 26 and 29 (five confirmed fixtures as things stand).

Hopefully Salah is back for 25. Even so, I might have to sell this week. What do you reckon?

    A) Salah to Jota (free)
    B) Salah to KDB (free)
    C) If I wanted to bring in KDB and Jota, it would need -8 or selling Saka, which I'm reluctant to do for now
    D) Something else

    1FT 0.0ITB
    Dubravka
    Porro Robinson Kabore
    Saka Foden Palmer Gordon*
    Haaland Watkins Solanke

    Areola Salah** Cash Estupinan

    Thanks
