The results of the midweek FA Cup fourth-round replays are significant for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers.

The quarter-finals of the FA Cup are on the same weekend as Gameweek 29, so there’ll be scheduled league fixtures postponed as a result of that clash.

And with many of the surviving big boys being given favourable draws in the round of 16, it could be quite a big Blank Gameweek.

But Chelsea’s win over Aston Villa on Wednesday means that we now know three Premier League fixtures will go ahead as planned.

Here’s the lowdown.

FA CUP FIFTH ROUND DRAW

  • Blackburn vs Newcastle
  • Chelsea vs Leeds
  • Bournemouth vs Leicester
  • Liverpool vs Southampton
  • Nottingham Forest vs Manchester United
  • Wolves vs Brighton
  • Coventry vs Maidstone
  • Luton vs Manchester City

(Premier League clubs in bold)

FPL BLANK GAMEWEEK 29 SUMMARY

The draw for the first round of the 2019/20 FFS Cup

So, three Gameweek 29 fixtures are confirmed as unaffected by the FA Cup clash that weekend.

It’s very plausible that we get as many as six blanks, with seven being the maximum.

If all goes to plan in terms of the bookies’ favourites, the following fixtures will be the only ones going ahead in Gameweek 29:

  • Fulham v Spurs
  • Burnley v Brentford
  • West Ham v Aston Villa
  • Luton v Nottm Forest

To get seven blanks, we’d need to see wins for Newcastle, Chelsea, Bournemouth, Liverpool, Brighton, Man Utd and Luton in the FA Cup fifth round.

WHEN WILL WE KNOW FOR SURE WHICH GAMEWEEK 29 FIXTURES ARE GOING AHEAD?

We won’t know about the confirmed blanks until the midweek before Gameweek 27, when the FA Cup fifth round takes place.

Please pick the best route to Haaland. Have 2FTs with one being Alvarez —> Haaland so each move is only a (-4) hit:

Non-Jota routes (No funds for Jota GW25):
    A) Saka + TAA —> VVD + Barkley
    B) Solanke + Saka —> Adebayo + Barkley

Jota routes (Money ITB for Jota GW25):
    C) Saka + TAA —> Doughty + Barkley
    D) Solanke + Saka —> Adebayo + 4.7 benched midfielder

Lose Watkins but get Jota Now:
    E) Watkins + Saka —> Jota + Adebayo

    Cheers!

Not sure I'd double up on Luton either, or what that does to getting 11 out in 26 without further hits

Palmer plays a poor Palace side with no Olise or Eze. I’d hold for another week. Just do Solanke to Darwin in my opinion

Stuck at the bottom of the last page. Things not looking great for me for DGW25, but in a relatively decent place for blanks in 26 and 29 (five confirmed fixtures as things stand).

Hopefully Salah is back for 25. Even so, I might have to sell this week. What do you reckon?

    A) Salah to Jota (free)
    B) Salah to KDB (free)
    C) If I wanted to bring in KDB and Jota, it would need -8 or selling Saka, which I'm reluctant to do for now
    D) Something else

    1FT 0.0ITB
    Dubravka
    Porro Robinson Kabore
    Saka Foden Palmer Gordon*
    Haaland Watkins Solanke

    Areola Salah** Cash Estupinan

    Raya (Areola)
    Porro Gabriel Trippier (Konsa) (Guehi)
    Saka Palmer Foden Jota (Gordon)
    Haaland Watkins Solanke

Should I do a -4 to get Walker in place of Guehi/ Konsa and bench Gabriel? Don't really have a bench this week with Gordon, Guehi and Konsa expected to miss out this weekend

    tough one, i think D.

depends on salah fitness (and thus impact on Jota) and your own gues son TAA mins. If you think TAA starts both in double can't lose him for the next 2 gws.

Would rather lose solanke than Watkins

Anyone else considering using the triple captain on Solanke in 28 /? (SHU h, LUT h)

I feel a little bit mental for even thinking about it when I was fairly set on using it on Haaland in 25

That is a worry... combined with having just Bournemouth only manage 2 shots on target at home to a poor Forest side last week.

If Haaland hadn't looked (understandably) of the pace since his return, I don't think I'd be considering it. If he looks better this weekend I'll inevitably take the "safe" option

have triple city - Alvarez, Foden, KdB and want Haaland this week. Will need a hit as 1ft and 6.6mitb.

    a) Alvarez/Solanke > Adebayo/Haaland
    b) KdB/Solanke > Richarlison/Haaland

As a third City asset - is KdB worth the money over Alvarez?

Solanke to Haaland looks good in your position. I probably would be wary about the second move - depends how you plan to approach 26 - I think you'd have 5 blanks and 2FT in 25 and 26 to get that to 3 on the bench so seems ok.

Planning to go into 26 with 2 frees, jota to kdb will be one move for sure, might also sell palmer to another midfielder so go into 26 with 9-10 players
        Thoughts?

Depends who you want to keep, but 5 blanks and 2FT gives you 11. I would probably lose Porro and Jota, benching Doughty (keeping for double in 28), Palmer and Richarlison.

I don't think you've got enough money in the bank! That must offer total flexibility. Have you considered Archer to Haaland? Team structure of price points may help going forward if you want 3 strikers. City assets over Liverpool with cup final & blank GW 26. Haaland in is obvious, I agree on careful with second transfer with future blanks & doubles in mind.

I can do archer to haaland but don't want benching headache now, so probably doing solanke to haaland, not very confident in my defence so was looking at doughty or VVD so that I can bench estupinan

    Dubravka
    TAA, Porro, Doughty
    KDB, Foden, Palmer, Richa
    Haaland, Watkins, Toney
    (Areola, Gabriel, Garnacho, Estu)

Used up FT to get Haaland for Solanke…worth doing the below transfers to get Jota?

Watkins & Palmer to Adebayo & Jota (-8)

do we expect TAA to continue starting while Bradley is away? Klopp should have not sub him against Arsenal in the first place but he still looked far from confident.

How long is Bradley away is the question? People deal with grief differently and perhaps getting stuck back into the team and "making his dad proud" could see him back soon. Could be that he needs to support his family and needs time off.

Son back which could be a risk of losing the 9 role, Werner added minutes, his penchant for a red or hitting bad form etc... wheels will come off at some point as he can't keep this record up. If I was 700k I'd go Maddison

I've got Richy and plan to bin him in 26 now given all of the above

Yes I'm unclear where Son plays now, obviously Rich has the form. Given I've missed the hauls maybe time to be a little brave here and switch to the better player (and hope translates to FPL!)

Man U fans. Thoughts on Maguire please? With Martinez out injured until 30th March (GW30) I'm assuming he's nailed?
£4.3m budget for a DF for blank GW 26 (Man U v Fulham).
Own Tripper, Gabriel, Estupinan, (Konsa & Taylor both injured)
I need the £0.2m from Konsa to £4.3m DF or lower to enable bringing in KDB & Jota.

One of Blackburn, Leeds or Leicester will win so will be at least 5 fixtures and fairly good chance of 6 (bookies aren't always right)

yeah so that could happen (you actually said so in a previous post ?!), Leeds could be Chelsea, Blackburn could beat Newcastle

1 of those 3 then gives 5 matches minimum, 2 of those 6

that's without a bigger upset elsewhere

maybe still angry with transferring out Watkins to captain Toney against City?

    My defence is a mess:
TAA - not back to full form and Bradley
    Konso - injured
    Estupinan - out of favour
Gusto - not guaranteed to play - did well yesterday
Porro - not so attacking recently

Currently only Estupinian possibly plays in Blank 26
    Only 0.2 in bank
    Have 3 City

    Options:
    1. Roll trf this week for more news and maybe do 2 and 3 next week
    2. Pedro to Gabriel (only have Raya in Arsenal defence)
    3. Konsa to Ait Nouri
    4. Something else

I have Trent - my musings below aside - I think you probably want to keep him and shift for 26. I think Gusto plays and with Porro you rpobably have a back three. Four if Estu is back. I would therefore probably roll for now. Maybe address one in 25 and then do Trent + someone in 26?

      Also considering Maguire

I don't need to make these changes until 26 though so will have 29 info

Short answer long I'd go 3

Really not sure how to create the funds for Alvarez to Haaland. I am not going to sell Watkins, Foden and KDB for it so leaves me with

    A. Porro -> Van Hecke (exact cash)
    B. Trent -> Doughty
    C. Saka -> £7.1m Mid (no idea who as no-one grabs my fancy)
    D. Solanke -> Adebayo (would get Dom back ahead of his double)
    E. Both A&C: Porro & Saka -> Doughty & Jota (-4)

All give me route to 11 players in 26 with FT

But A if you have 3 decent defenders

Is Alex Moreno nailed even when Digne is back?

Recon so, but might get rotated with Europa league

I'll only need him in 25, 26 and 29 (no clue when Europa is back)

Konsa is injured until GW 27. Cash £4.6m to cover blank GW 26?
Doesn't help blank GW 29 but thought I'd mention it. Not a villa fan, can't comment on Moreno / Digne.

not fully nailed, might be some early subs and europe rotation but offers more offensively which tips in his favour i think

Would you FH/WC this in BGW26?

    1 FT 4.7 ITB
    Turner Areola

    Foden Bowen Saka Palmer Richarlison
    Archer Haaland Watkins

Why not WC now instead? Max on DGW, have 11 for 26 too

    Dubravka
    Porro, Trippier, Udogie
    Saka, KDB, Palmer, Foden
    Solanke, Haaland, Watkins

    (Areola, Gordon, Estupinan, Andersen)

    a) Porro, Saka, Solanke > Doughty, Jota, Darwin (-8)
    b) Saka, Sol > Jota, Darwin (-4)
    c) Solanke > Darwin

Seriously considering A. Makes use of good GW24 fixtures, Doughty has DGW25 & 28, Porro blanks GW26 anyway, extra £1m (for replacing Porro) for later Salah funding.

Could then roll GW25, giving 2FT for GW26, or later.

    Is a -8 too much in GW24?

    Anything worth a hit here?

    Leno
    Gabriel / Estu / TAA
    Richarlson / Saka / Foden / Jota
    Watkins / Alvarez / Haaland

    Bench: Dubravka, McAtee, Branthwaite, Kabore

    1.6 itb 0 FT

    Thanks

    Hi All,

I'm after challengers from the Community to take on the Scout Picks. If you are interested, email me at will@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk with the subject heading “Community Picks”. Please include your FFS username and FPL Team ID.

You need to pick 11 players to challenge the Scout Picks in a one-off head-to-head match.

If chosen, you will have a budget of £83m to select 11 players (no subs) but outside of that standard FPL rules apply - you need to use a normal FPL formation with a limit of three players from a team.

And remember to pick a captain and a vice-captain.

Back in Gameweek 18, the Scouts had taken a seemingly unassailable 12-6 lead but five successive wins from the Community has narrowed the gap to 12-11. Well done to Merlin Magic, Name 100K Short, champ, Baps Hunter and Doosra for bringing the Community back into contention. Despite some good wins for the quintet none were able to surpass The-Red-1's impressive 34-point winning margin, set in Gameweek 16.

The manager with the biggest winning margin at the end of the season wins a £100 Amazon voucher and entry to our Mods and Cons League for next season.

Congratulations to all the winners so far: The-Red-1, Prophet, Name 100K Short, BadgeVilla, champ, THFC4LIFE, Doosra, Merlin Magic, Baps Hunter, Nice To Finally Michu and The Mentaculus.

Trying to beat Scout picks with over 34 points is extremely difficult and creating differential team that even has possibility to do it doesn't make the job easier. Most eggs basically need to be in same basket. I had triple Arsenal defence that and only lucky armband decision helped me to win with minimal 2 pts. Good luck everyone and keep the streak going!

The-Red-1's big win was largely down to two players Salah and Son. The Scouts opted to go without the pair that round and paid the price https://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2023/12/08/fpl-gameweek-16-scout-picks-brighton-triple-up/ And after Haaland missed the trip to Luton with that foot injury, The-Red-1 also benefitted from having Salah as his vice captain to the Scout's Darwin.

So things clearly went in his favour, but I think trying to work out which explosive players won't be included in the Scout Picks is good tactic to have a chance of a big win.

Have already used my FT and so should I take a -4 to get Daughty in for Sheff Utd and the two doubles or just play Gusto and sort next week?

    Raya
    Gabriel - Gusto - Trent
    Foden - Richarlison - Palmer - Jota - Saka
    Haaland - Watkins

    Areola - Solanke - Branthwaite - Konsa

If you are planning to get Daughty then I would do it this GW to take advantage of that home tie againts Sheffield. I have done the same thing.

Yeah agree with that. It's a case of get him now or wait until the second DGW28.

Gusto and Chelsea as a team looked good against Villa last night, so taking a hit might not be worth it.

That's what I'm thinking. I'm way more comfortable playing Gusto after last night but also conscious that Daughty could bag quite a few points between this weekend against Sheff U to the end of their second DGW.

    Benching headache help needed please...

Got to be Solanke or Saka i think. Currently reluctantly benching Solanke as punishment for captain fail in 23!

The other non benchables are KDB, Foden, Richy, Palmer, Haaland and Watkins

    What would you do people?

Solanke, based on the BBC highlights for the BOU v NFO game last weekend. Saka and Arsenal are both in good form now.

Not looking likely Salah will be ready this weekend

Liverpool are also set to be without Dominik Szoboszlai after he missed the Arsenal game due to a recurrence of a hamstring injury, while Mohamed Salah is following a personal fitness programme.
