Lateriser Gameweek 35 Wildcard

I’m on a Wildcard this week, like a lot of FPL managers, but instead of going into detail with my picks, I’ll talk a little bit about my process in case that helps you.

WILDCARD: INFO BEFORE IDEAS

I’ve been accumulating a fair amount of information in the last few days but I only sat down to tinker on Wednesday night. That is generally how I like to work, instead of spending time on the FPL site working through various permutations and combinations. If you’re reading, watching highlights and consuming content, you’re sort of ‘beautiful minding’ decisions in your head anyway. Drafting then generally becomes a lot easier once you’ve consumed enough information.

What also happens when you draft too much on a Wildcard is that you tend to get extremely confused. You’ve considered a lot more picks than you should have without processing the correct amount of information.

It might become difficult to become a little objective when you’re constantly tinkering because you sometimes become irrationally attached to a pick or two, despite new information presenting itself during the course of the week.

And last but not least, the ‘xRegret’ is off the roof and just makes the outcome and the football-watching experience excruciating. What happens more often than not is you’ll have probably considered a bigger pool of players who will invariably haul and then you’re almost always thinking how close you were to getting said player in your team.

AVOIDING THE ‘DOUBLE VISION’

Another thing I consider crucial is not having tunnel vision and focusing only on Double Gameweek 37 when building your team.

With just four Gameweeks left, each one is significant. See if there’s scope for you to hunt for a haul or two in Gameweek 35/36/38 when drafting your team.

With a double upcoming, don’t be too scared of a hit or two. Don’t be too afraid to book transfers because the ceiling of potential hauls is a lot higher than losing four points on a hit, in my opinion. The ‘right’ players to have from the teams doubling in Gameweek 37 could potentially change by the time it arrives and having a flexible squad will help you adjust to the new information in case it presents itself.

KEEPING MONEY BACK FOR FLEXIBILITY

A point that Simon March made in his excellent article really stood out to me. He mentioned keeping £1.5m in the bank to offer flexibility for the Bench Boost. It was a nice bit of inspiration for me and keeping that in mind, I’ve exaggerated it and kept £11.5m in the bank in my first draft! I’m still quite unsure of Erling Haaland’s (£14.2m) fitness and that is the primary reason why I have money left over. If he’s declared fit for Gameweek 35, I’ll let go of Rasmus Hojlund (£7.0m).

The other bits of information I’m waiting to hear about are whether Richarlisom (£6.8m) is going to be fit or not, Pedro Porro’s (£5.8m) fitness and how Newcastle United use Callum Wilson (£7.8m). The idea behind this draft is that all of the 15 players either have a good fixture or a double in Gameweek 37. So, in case I don’t end up selling Rayan Ait-Nouri (£4.8m) for a Double Gameweeker in Gameweek 37 to fix another fire, I am happy to Bench Boost him for a home game against Crystal Palace anyway.

The Ait-Nouri pick follows the ‘25% principal’: every remaining Gameweek being a significant 25% of the season. I like his match-up against Luton Town in Gameweek 35 and don’t expect many to go there as a pick. The thinking is similar for Hojlund, as well. If we get information that the presence of Wilson affects Alexander Isak’s (£8.1m) minutes more than we perceive (very unlikely I know), I can hold Hojlund and sell Isak for Haaland instead.

I’m also very much contemplating throwing in Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.4m) or Ben White (£6.0m) as a defensive punt with a much higher upside than Harry Maguire (£4.2m) or Ait-Nouri.

WILDCARD DRAFTS

My fellow Pro Pundits Zoph and Pras went through Pras’ Wildcard draft if you want to check that out, and we will be podding again on Thursday evening as well.

Until next time, good luck with your Wildcard and happy tinkering!

Only dead or ghost teams should have Haaland in them from these last few weeks.

Time to try and get together a BB37 team without WC.
Which players would be your priority to get?
Son, Isak, Gordon, Bruno, Foden, Schar?

    Current squad:
    Petrovic, Neto
    Gabriel, Gusto, RAN, Branthwaite, Munoz
    Salah, Diaz, Saka, Havertz, Palmer
    Haaland, Solanke, Mateta

Out with Salah, Diaz, Saka, Mateta, Munoz? Is Neto getting benched now i would also need another gk..

Revised WC draft. Having Jackson just feels wrong but he's in for now, thoughts?

    Petrovic Pickford
    Gabriel Maguire VDV Schar TAA
Son Palmer Gordon Foden Bruno F
    Isak Jackson Haaland

    (BB GW37)

    A....Gordon and City defender

B....kdb and and sgw option for 37. Maybe branthwaite v Sheffield

Hi all! On WC this GW so wanted opinions on my current draft? Also have BB and TC chip available. Team is:

    Pickford Petrovic
    Schar Porro Gvardiol White Regulion
    Bruno Gordon Palmer Foden Son
    Watkins Mateta Isak

This leaves me £6.9 ITB for any transfers that need making in the final GWs.

Thinking I should keep Gordon/Isak for SHU game, then move one of them on after - probably Gordon > Eze?

And potentially Son > KDB ready for the GW37 Bench Boost.

    Any/all suggestions welcome!

Decent. I'd be tempted to upgrade Pickford > Ederson and swap Gvardiol out for VdV, Magiure or Gusto

Latest iteration of WC, and the one I feel most at ease with, giving me a bit of flexibility with decisions come gw37 (if needed). Also works well with BB37 and fixtures around it. How do you like it?

    Petrović (Vicario)
Ruben, Branthwaite, Burn (Gabriel, Van de Ven)
    Bruno, Gordon, Son, Foden, Palmer
    Watkins, Isak (Haaland)

Even as a lifelong Chelsea fan, I cant bring myself to have Jackson over Watkins with 2 extra games, and also not willing to go anywhere near Man Utd defence.

Front 8 I like, largely because they are identical to my current iteration and absolutely agree on Watkins over Jackson.

Not sold on City defence. Hadn't really looked at the Petro/Vic rotation pair, but actually works better than some of the pairings I have looked at. Otherwise I largely have the same but variations (e.g., Schar over Burn)

Yeah, I agree. Petro for this and next week, both for GW37 and Vic for gw38 vs SHU.

5 games, reasonable fixtures, £4.2m, can grab a goal and nailed in one of the best defences in the leagues for fewest goals conceded. Is he anything more than a bench warmer until a BB? Probably not. But your comments makes me think you have seen more memes than Maguire performances this season

Already massive benching headache with Mateta in the form that he is. Since there is only 4 gameweeks left, I would advise that you make wildcard with already provisional starting 11 in mind for each of the remaining gameweeks, it will make your life much easier, without massive headaches like this one

Quite like it but any plan to get haaland in before 37?. What if your bench looking like for 37?

      White, mateta, havertz, Pickford

Not the worst but all single game weekers. Arsenal have great fixtures either side of 37 though so will be hard to lose the 2 arsenal.

Keep an eye on Dubravka. Last I heard Pope is due back at some point but haven't heard any updates recently

Don't really understand the question mate? So 10 players this week net you 117? Good going if so.

Yin, Chinese for “female” or “moon,” represents darkness, femininity, passivity, and the earth. Yang (“sun” or “male”) represents light, masculinity, activity, and the heavens. The balance of yin and yang were seen to influence health and order within an individual, society, and the entire universe.

From a single GW perspective GW34 as things stand (37 points up on top 10k average, compared to 15 ish), but chip usage effects more than just the GW when the chips are played so best judged over a longer period.

I think most of us started to think chip strategy back around GW22 when the EFL Cup finalists & FA Cup 5th round teams were known. I've gone from 121k to 18k since then (an over 650% rank increase) despite my GW29 FH going belly up (18 points) and still have WC and BB to play so am more than happy with the way my chip strategy has worked out. It would be interesting to know how well FH29 & FH34'ers compare over that period.

It's fine but not sure about Ederson...

When did he last keep a clean sheet?

It's a good point, but a downgrade to Onana doesn't seem too promising as the funds won't massively improve my defence anyway. Maybe I could go all in on cheap goallies and get e.g. Verbruggen, and upgrade VdV or Reguilón to Porro.

Depends how much value you put in DGW 37 and if you intend to BB. They're fairly strong SGW players. Haven't seen Reguilon in many drafts, they have fairly good fixtures but sure you could do better, transfer him out for 37?

Yes, plan is to BB37! You may be right. I sometimes think we put too much value in two games which can be bad fixtures. For Reg's price, for instance, I'm not entirely convinced by Gusto, I already have VdV, and I can't have another Newcastle player. Tough one. Thanks for your thoughts!

    Onana
    Dalot VVD Munoz
    Son Palmer Salah Saka Eze
    Darwin Solanke

Henderson Semenyo White Gabriel - 0 FT, 2.5M ITB, no chips left.

Anything worth a hit for this team? I was considering Eze to Maddison/Johnson -4.

How many minutes do we think Werner gets over DGW35?

80-90 if Richarlison is fit would be my guess, starts at the weekend v Arsenal and comes off 60-70, benched v Chelsea and comes on to play 20-30

    Wildcard35 & BB37

    Petrovic
    Porro Schar Dalot
    Son Palmer Gordon Maddison Bruno
    Issk Jackson

    Ederson Haaland White Gabriel

Will look at Maddison to Foddn in GW37 for the City Double.

BBing double Arsenal defence away to Utd in 37 is not ideal. But defenders are a nightmare on WC35

    Thoughts on this draft?
    Cheers.

No WC left (BB37)…1.1m ITB 1FT

    Petrovic Dubravka
Gusto Gvardiol Gabriel Ait-Nouri Van Hecke
    Salah Saka Foden Palmer Garnacho
    Haaland Darwin Solanke

Obvious FT is Saka or Salah to Son FT

Take a -4 hit to get another
    A) Another Spurs asset
    B) Bruno
    C) Isak or Gordon

    Thoughts??

Hojlund to be that third striker on BB37 if you're already tripled up on Chelsea right?

I'm in a similar boat. I have Gusto, Petrovic and Palmer. It's not worth taking a hit to take one out to get in Jackson. So Hojlund it will have to be. If he gets back into form it could work out well.
