Obviously, we will know more when we have the complete picture, but it feels like the template will be much harder to establish this year.

Last season it was hard to have the likes of both Salah and Haaland, but some still did. Will be very very difficult this year, and I think forcing choice is good for the game.

When you get CHO for fracking 5.5 and Nkunku for 6.5 and god knows who else for portend, it really doesn’t make it that difficult.

Is Hudson-Odoi really that good of an option? Didn't pay too much attention to NFO if I'm honest.

A player with 8 GI in his last 15 starts coming in at 5.5 million is just plain stupid.

It was actually pretty easy when Palmer was 4.9 and Gordon cheap.

    4. MJF
      2 years, 1 month ago

Definitely. The tougher it is to just follow the herd the better. The complaining is because people don't want to make hard choices, that's why when the game launches all we see is RMT and A or B questions because people want others to make the choice for them.

The game used to be about balancing a squad of premium and non premium players. This is was what separated the good players apart from the not so good. The not so good players wouldn’t have the knowledge/ability/effort to be able to fit the premiums in with a good & balanced team.

Now the premium 2 players aren’t worth their dough and the other players cost very little so there’s nothing to separate the good players from the not so good as all teams will have similar structures.

FPL are prioritising keeping casuals entertained to generate money rather than satisfy the loyal veterans of the once beautiful game.

I've just costed my draft XV at around 103m. Needs a wee trim, and it will be a decent but by no means overpowered squad. Overall, I'd say the pricing seems fair and will lead to a more diverse template.

    3. MJF

If you don't enjoy it don't play it, its as simple as that really. There are other fantasy games out there. You can moan but they ain't changing shiznit if it puts off casuals.

  17. CarsonYeung

Hard not to be doom and gloom about FPL these days, the shift towards 'generous' pricing seems to be a permanent one instead of some isolated miscalculations last season. Shouldn't surprise any of us tomorrow when Foden, Saka and Palmer are all south of 10m. If the likes of Gabriel, Saliba etc aren't 6m you may as well forget the whole thing.

Only dilemma of sorts so far is Haaland and when he inevitably gets injured everybody will be on Toney - Watkins - Isak for a combined 25m. Watkins who outscored Haaland last year (points not goals) now likely has pens and is 9m, go figure.

Granted he would have been taken off them for a reason but I think your number 9 who's full of confidence after a spell away from the penalty spot would be first in line.

I think they're struggling to decipher who the next wave of "premiums" are, with the Kane, Salah, KDB etc days coming to an end

      1. CarsonYeung
        • 14 Years
        2 years, 1 month ago

Last year you have to give them some grace with kdb injured straight away and Kane leaving the league, but this year it just feels like they're asking for trouble with how they've gone about the pricing.

Templates will always form but in theory with proper pricing some top scoring options should always be financially out of reach. Doesn't look like that will happen, especially in the event of a Haaland injury.

    3. Deulofail
      • 10 Years
      2 years, 1 month ago

I don't understand the doom and gloom. Picking the highest scoring 11 players is always going to be tricky, even if everyone was 0.0m. The dilemma is when to own whom, and whether it's worth a transfer or hit to make the switch. In days past, people would just sit on premiums the whole 38 weeks and only switch around cheapos until one takes off and they run away from the casuals into the top 100k. People bemoaning how easy it is now are really bemoaning how hard it will be to beat informed casuals now.

Let's face it, FPL is a bad game filled with luck, and making it more accessible and "easy" for casuals to compete only reveals this more. I think it's more fun, if anything, to have a wider pool of players to choose from, making more potential ways to get ahead (and to fall behind, as will be the case for me).

      1. CarsonYeung
        • 14 Years
        2 years, 1 month ago

Call me naive but back in the day it felt like it was run to be a good, functional game. Now everything feels like it's being run solely as a marketing tool for the prem and for social media/youtube engagement from masses. I appreciate that it's always been intended to be that but just I feel like something has been lost.

Arguably seems to be more community now on various platforms. Despite the number next to my name I'd never consider myself part of any of that. The game has just moved on in ways that I don't like so I'll either roll with it or bow out.

      2. Bushwhacker
        • 7 Years

The game can’t ever lose more luck than judgment; its the nature of it. People who pay attention and spend more time will get caught out less. Simples.

      Splurge of sugar-free maple syrup
      3 pinches of cinnamon
Sprinkle of slivered almonds (and pepitas is desired)

Stir it all up and place in larder overnight. Wake up following morn, consume then sit in front of mirror and watch muscles grow!

I also put in a scoop of chocolate Musashi protein powder. For extra muscles.

I'm taking far more chances. Ended up ranked around £100k. Mostly down to playing safe and rolling the dice

I ended on 400k which isn't great. But I was like 1.2mill around gw32 or something. I'm too stubborn I think and try to be too differential. It just seems like you sacrifice some fun in the game if you go too template.

You managed "£100k" from FPL. I must be playing this game wrong.

Not sure if Trent, Salah & Haaland is gonna be possible..

It will be possible if you go without lots of other good players, I managed to fit in Salah & Haaland no problem at the start of last season, Trent though wasn't worth his price conmpared to the alternatives

Probably is, but I imagine that'd make it almost impossible to afford 2 of Palmer/Foden/Saka

Given the fixtures etc., which one of those three would you start the season without assuming you have one of Salah/Haaland?

I can swerve Trent easily. I'm planning to have Salah, and nervously omitting Haaland.

Oh, and I'm considering Havertz instead of Saka if the price difference is too sharp, and possibly Nkunku over Palmer for the same reason, after close pre-season scouting etcetera. Foden will also be price-dependent, but the most likely of those 3 to make my initial squad.

Pretty similar answer to Andy actually. At the moment I think Foden might be priority no1, if KDB leaves & he's given free reign in a central role. Saka is a little bit more price elastic depending on how much more than Havertz / Ødegaard he's priced. Palmer I feel like I need to scout a bit in preseason to see how Maresca is settling up given that he doesn't usually use an outright 10 - don't think I'd risk Nkunku as an alternative from GW1, but tactically & team-wise I think there's most uncertainty with Chelsea (although their opening fixtures are a bit better than Arsenal so he could inch ahead of Saka if all looks good)

I think we can sense the ballpark prices of the Big Mids, and looking again, I can knock up a very satisfactory Front 7 if I go without Haaland AND Salah. Big call I know, but despite what a certain whiner was saying yesterday, it will NOT be easy to assemble an all-round super-strong squad.

    Top on my mini league...
Would it be better choose 8 players from either Spain or England or go 50/50 say 5 players from one and 6 from the other?
    Thank you

After the FT will only have 10 players for Euros final. Leave as is or take a hit?

Take a hit for a mid or fwd but would leave if your just missing a defender. Capping the new player also a consideration to justify the hit.

Managed a captain goal every round bar the quarters but am still at 453k. Still will have a full XI in the final. Think I'll bring in Yamal, Foden, Saka and Stones, with Watkins as a sub for the sake of it.
