After the conclusion of Euro ’24, supporters are starting to cast a glance towards club football once again.

With that in mind, we at Fantasy Football Scout are delighted to announce that we’re teaming up with the newly launched English Football League (EFL) Fantasy game for the 2024/25 season.

ABOUT FANTASY EFL

This new Fantasy EFL game is quite different from Fantasy Premier League (FPL), asking you to pick just seven players each gameweek from across all 72 teams in the Championship, League One and League Two.

You are then allowed to keep switching selections right up until the kick-off of a relevant fixture.

You’ll also get a chance to pick two clubs each week that you think will win. Ideally, these victorious teams will be playing away AND score two goals or more for bonus points.

FANTASY EFL CONTENT TO COME

Suffice to say, then, the game’s rules are different to what you’re used to with FPL. That’s why we’ll be kicking off with a full explanation of those in the coming days, before considering some basic strategy.

Then it’ll be swiftly onto our usual pre-season content that looks at friendlies, key EFL transfers and early fixture runs.

Whilst the new EFL Fantasy game isn’t live quite yet (it’ll be coming very soon), you can already sign up now to ensure you’ll be notified as soon as it does go live.

You’ll probably notice some familiar content on the official EFL site too! Although we’re not running the game, we are teaming up with the EFL throughout the season to provide some hopefully insightful Fantasy perspectives each week.

As always, we aim to provide expertise that will help Fantasy managers pick out the best, most interesting assets to start the season strongly as well as the choice captaincy candidates and strategies to help you secure silverware in your mini-leagues.

We also want to assure readers that this will not impact our FPL or indeed UEFA Champions League (UCL) Fantasy coverage. In fact, we’re growing our team to provide even more fabulous Fantasy articles, video, data and more for our community members and occasional visitors plus even more to come for our Premium Members (stay tuned…).

In the meantime, we’re going to have a quick sit down: covering all 92 teams from the top four divisions in England, plus European elite in the Champions League (and of course the Euros) means a very busy time at Scout Towers!

Even though a template hasn’t emerged yet, this feels a bit templatey. Thoughts?

    Sanchez, (4.0)
    Gvardiol, Burn, Mykolenko (Guehi) (4.0)
    Salah, Gordon, Kudus, CHO (4.5)
    Haaland, Isak, Havertz

I don't think there will be a template. It will be split between Haaland teams, Salah teams, and Haaland + Salah teams.

You can make well balanced teams with no real weaknesses without H&S.

          Pope
          TAA, Trippier, Robertson, Shaw
          Saka, KDB, Son, Doku
          Watkins, Isak
          (4.0, 4.5, 4.5, 4.5)

          Only issue is captaincy.

Also not having last year top FPL scorer is an issue. One of Salah, Haaland or Palmer hauls (one of them most likely will week in week out)and you are done

According to an article I saw today on the FPL site, Watkins & Isak are the two most owned forwards with just over 50% ownership for each. Haaland is at 30%, with just over one million registered teams.

I was looking at a potential BB gw1 team, I did it last year and it went well.

Tempted this year as well particularly because the transfer carries over when you use a chip.

It does mean no Salah and Haaland, obviously a risk. And is heavily reliant on Spurs doing well v Leicester. Newcastle the same v Southampton and a Liverpool clean sheet v Ipswich. Arsenal likely to get a clean sheet surely?

Then move off Spurs to Chelsea gw3. Apparently Richarlison is not likely to be ready for the start of the season, so it makes Johnston a sneaky decent pick.

From looking at the options believe it or not Pope/Raya rotate fairly well until I need to sell one of them for funds.

This is what I came up with .5m in the bank.

    Raya (Pope)
    --
    Saiba - TAA - VVD - (Romero - Konsa)
    --
Garnacho - Johnson - Son - Gordon (Eze)
    --
    J.Pedro - Watkins - Isak

The main thing putting me off to 100% go for the BB is there are a lot of away games there even if they are against weak opposition on paper.

Don't see any advantage and too much risk for not so much reward. No Salah, No Haaland? A BB in a single gameweek? Lack of data as the season hasn't started as well so we don't know which teams are strong yet. Then you're going to slowly start to rush bench players out so that you have an optimal 11/12 players on the squad. There really is so much more negative than positive

        • 17 Years

Against promoted sides, always a good chance of a clean sheet though. As they won't have much of the ball.

You could argue that no Salah or Haaland means more options dependant on fixtures, plus there is "no data" on how Salah will perform under a new manager tactically etc.

Part of the reason I picked three Arsenal, Newcastle, Spurs, very settled sides easy to predict line up's and same managers as they have had last year.

Last years BB gw1 got me 25 points. I think it is at least worth considering.

So you don't want to select Salah because of new manager/tactics, but you are happy to select TAA and VVD??
Doesn't make a ton of sense to me.
Personally I stay completely away from teams with new managers for the first few gameweeks.

GW1 BB looks great to me but not sure about this selection. Would want Arsenal and Liverpool attackers rather than double defence.

It is the Arsenal defence that I would be most secure about, to me that is their main strength. The Arsenal midfield is more of a lottery I think.

Fair enough, I just think that Wolves always carry a threat with the likes of Neto, Hwang and Cunha but probably won't be able to limit Arsenal to less than 2 goals.

Not really a fan of double Pool defence for Ipswich (A); think that'll be a lot trickier than it looks although should be goals for both. Expect Newcastle to slaughter Southampton though & I can see goals for Spurs too

What are the main dilemmas am I missing any?
    1) Haaland in or out
    2) Liverpool under the new manager - specifically TAA's position, and rotation between Gapko, Diaz, Darwin and Jota
    3) Nkunku, Chelsea GK and Joao in preseason or in the watchlist
    4) Should we go for a City/Arsenal defender?
    5) With the new 5FT rule its even more important to have a good bench. Worth considering having an 8th attacker and rotating
i.e. Joao Pedro with Hudson Odoi/GibbsWhite

I wouldn't say 'more important', but the idea being it'll be possible to utilise your whole squad more to avoid transfers, enabling 'mini-wildcards' 5-6 times a season with the banked ones. If that's the way you want to play.

      7) Bench boost an option
      8) Saliba/Gabriel
      9) Joao Pedro or Solanke
      10) Nkunu or Palmer
      11) Foden or Haaland
      12) Salah/Diaz or Haaland/Watkins
      13) Pickford or Pope

    Sanchez / 4.0
    Konsa Anderson Burn Myko 4.0
    Salah Palmer Saka Eze Gordon
    Watkins Isak 4.5

Rotate the 4th defender, have a good first bench every week anyway so other options isn’t so important. The 4.0 defender will probs get minutes too anyway. Missing city yes but that attack is beast

Pretty standard, i like the punts on Muniz and Wood, your week 2 wont be pretty with no Haaland and Foden will be late back for the start of the season.

So i am looking at different strategies, one i favor is fully attack the first 5 weeks for teams with good fixtures and then WC when we have more information by week 6 to hit the fixture swing

Something like this to start with :
    Henderson
    Aina TAA Gvardiol Burn 4mil
    Salah Gordon CHO Gibbs-White Andreas
    Haaland Isak 4,5

Plan would be to get some 2 Brighton mids week 3 to hit their nice fixtures.

What does everybody think about the increased impact of European fixtures this season with the revamped UEFA formats being rolled out across all 3 competitions? (36 team league, 8 regular fixtures, positions 1-8 advance to KO stage, positions 9-24 play 2-legged play off to advance, positions 25-36 eliminated from all UEFA competitions - no parachuting into tournament lower down the ladder)

Arsenal and Man City - Likely to finish in positions 1-8 (8 games).
Liverpool and Villa - Likely to finish in positions 9-24 (10 games).
Spurs and Man United - Both liable to balls it up (8/10 games)
Chelsea - Very likely to finish in positions 1-8 (8 games)

Impossible that this amount of football/travel doesn't have an impact, heightened risk of injury and potentially rotation towards the end in order to avoid a play off/elimination. See Newcastle last season for worst case scenarios when it comes to this, potentially Villa and Liverpool most at risk.

Expect it'll be a significant factor for Villa in particular. Puts me off their LBs even though I quite fancy Maatsen & maybe bumps Watkins slightly down in comparison to, say, Isak

Yeah I've had Maatsen as fourth defender in some of my drafts

I feel like these changes have majorly flown under the radar, new format is very convoluted and hasn't been communicated all that well I don't think. An absurd amount of mid weeks dedicated to Europe, there will be injuries for sure.

Jury is out until we see how they play under Slot, there's a lot of good teams in the CL. Personally I think they'll be upper end of the play off group. All it takes is for them to get Real Madrid and City from the pot 1 teams and one shock result and they're in amongst it

Liverpool has squad depth, in attack at least. However, Watkins and AVL will be in trouble imo. However, not perhaps early in the season.

    1) not worth the price imo
    2) Salah or no-one before we see how they play, but TAA or Bradley on preseason watchlist
    4) Gvardiol and Saliba should be solid picks
    5) I don't know about that being the reason, but dead positions don't earn TV early in the season. So pricing could be better reasoning for that choice, since only two players between 7.5 and 9.5. Also Saka and especially Foden question marks after Euros.

Week 1 BB into GW 2 WC

    4.5, 4.5
    White, Porro, 4.5, Burn, mykolenko
    Salah, Bruno, odegaard, Johnson, Gordon
    Havertz, J. Pedro, Isak

    J. Pedro and White to Saliba and Woods also in my thinking

Avoids all players who went deep into Euros/Copa. Brings them back in Week 2 and Haaland (C). Thoughts?

Haven’t played FPL since the season when AWB was 4.0 at Crystal Palace, but want to give it a go again this year!

What do you think of this draft?

    Raya Turner
    Gvardiol VDVen Mykolenko Andersen Harwood-Bellis
    Salah Palmer Foden Eze Rogers

I think I'm going to set up my team for 3 weeks only and then wildcard in week 3 over the 1st International break - set up a team with no needed transfers for the 1st 3 weeks before wildcarding.
    Any thoughts on this strategy?

Picking the right 6.5m midfielder will be key. I'm on Nkunku now, but considering Kudus, Bailey and MGW too.

Is Nkunku nailed though? He didn’t play that much late last season… If nailed, 6.5 is definately a bargain.
