With the next Fantasy Premier League (FPL) deadline almost upon us, we’re getting insight and team reveals from our panel of Hall of Famers and guest writers. Here, three-time top 500 finisher FPL General talks through his Gameweek 3 squad.

FPL 1 team reveal

Gameweek 2 Review

General Gameweek 3

Triple Captain success: a sentence I haven’t typed very often during my FPL career. The gamble to play it early in a single Gameweek paid off very nicely, so thank you, Erling Haaland (£15.1m).

But while Triple Captain was a success, triple Crystal Palace has been a disaster so far! Aside from the Daniel Munoz (£5.0m) assist in Gameweek 1, they’ve returned diddly squat. Owning the trio for an away trip to Chelsea this weekend is not ideal, to say the least.

I’m going to bench Munoz for Ezri Konsa (£4.5m), with Aston Villa facing newly-promoted Leicester City. Brentford’s back-up goalkeeper Hákon Valdimarsson (£4.0m) is also getting a start for me this week with the expectation that Dean Henderson (£4.5m) will auto-sub in. I’m not expecting a clean sheet from Henderson at Chelsea so I may as well throw Valdimarsson in for the 1% chance that he keeps the gloves after his clean sheet against Colchester in the cup on Wednesday night!

I’ve got no concerns about Eberechi Eze (£7.0m). I still think he’s one of the best picks in the game. Along with Antoine Semenyo (£5.5m) at Bournemouth, Eze’s had the most shots among midfielders (12) over the first two Gameweeks which is encouraging for his owners. Keep the faith!

Defensively, the Gabriel Magalhaes (£6.0m) and Pedro Porro (£5.5m) picks have gone to plan. Both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have trickier fixtures on the horizon but I’m happy to start those two guys in any fixture.

Bruno Fernandes (£8.4m) is very much on the chopping block. No returns and a price drop was not in the script. I’m not expecting much from him away to Liverpool either but he’ll probably survive until after the international break. A converted penalty and a few cheeky bonus points on Sunday would be most welcome.

Up front, Alexander Isak (£8.5m) hasn’t returned many points yet either but I put him in the same category as Eze, as a player whom I’m content to hold long-term through the blanks. The points will come eventually. I’ve been encouraged by the number of minutes Joao Pedro (£5.5m) has been getting early doors. Hopefully, he can be a long-term enabler in the front three. As a Manchester United fan, his late winner resulted in mixed emotions…

Gameweek 3 Bus Team

Good luck this weekend everyone. Make sure to check out the latest episode of the 59th Minute Podcast.

Enjoy the international break when it comes!

A or B? Currently have Jota and TAA but no Chelsea

    A
    GW3 - Saka
    GW4 - Diaz
    Gw5 - Diaz

    B
    GW3 - Palmer
    GW4 - Palmer
    GW5 - Palmer

If all else is equal, B. But only because Diaz is the least secure of the 3 and you need him for 2 games. If they all start every game and play more than 70 mins for sure, I think I prefer A, but it's not for sure.

    A) Gordon —> Madueke (FT)
    B) Henderson —> Sels (FT)
    C) Henderson + Gordon —> Raya + Madueke (-4)
    D) Save (boring)

so one league of 36 teams and everyone plays a random 8 matches. Ok, its very different...champions league was getting boring every year with same fixtures and winners so all for a bit of change and fans can see more cities, teams this way.

Considering going ever so slightly off template from A to B

    A: Salah + Porro + JP
    B: Saka + Konsa + Watkins

    Raya

    Robertson Porro Robinson

    Salah Palmer Jota ESR Rogers

    Haaland JP

    4.0, Aina, THB, Jebbison

I think it's better tbh. The games are more interesting. Different opponents, different leagues.

Nobody wants to see real Madrid play twice against Red Star Belgrade, Lille and Atalanta. This way at least the 8 games are interesting.

There should be football on every day. And also during every night. Why is Foden asleep? Wake him up and put him on the plane to Paris to play game 6 of the 7-series showdown vs PSG, live, on Disney+.

    Hey all,

I got annoyed at the weekend when I read some muppet’s post on here that Haaland captainers ‘got lucky’ or some such, and I decided to do a bit of research which might be of interest to anyone stuck in the whole Haaland vs Salah vs Both debate.

For this analysis I’ve used PL fixtures from the start of 22/23 until now. During that time Haaland has been involved in 68 games, Salah 72. Haaland has returned in 70.58% of his games, and has hauled (got at least two attacking returns) 18 times (26.47%). Salah has returned in 59.72% of his games, and has hauled 14 times (19,44%). Haaland’s average haul is 2.28g and 0.33a, Salah’s is 1.29g and 1a, so straight away we can say that Haaland is more reliable overall, hauls more often, and has higher scoring hauls.

Of Haaland’s hauls 11 have been at home, 7 away, so it confirms what we’ve always thought: he’s 57.14% more likely to haul at home. Salah’s are 7 and 7, so he’s no more likely at home than away. Both players score better at home. Haaland’s average away haul is 2g 0.14a, but his average home haul 2.45g and 0.33a. Salah’s average away haul is 1g and 1.14a, his home haul is 1.57g and 0.86a, so he tends to be provider away and score more goals at home.

Finally, all but three of Haaland’s hauls, so that’s 15 of them, have come against mid or bottom table sides and Man United. The man loves the Manchester Derby and has hauled twice in it, once at home (in 22/23) and once away (in 23/24) for a combined 5g and 3a. So, when you put all the evidence together, captaining Haaland at home against weaker opposition (or Man U) has a high likelihood of success. Salah, on the other hand, has hauled against lesser opponents on 9 of 14 occasions, against Tottenham twice(H and A, but over two seasons), against Newcastle twice (both at home), and Utd (H) once. Neither player has hauled, during this period, against the other’s team, or against Aston Villa.

So, there you go. I’m not going to give my opinion about any of this here, I’ve tried to stick to facts and figures. You can ask me about it if you like, but, anyway I hope you find this data useful in making your own decisions.

Yes, although I haven't taken the influence of events into account, only tried to look at overall performance. They've had remarkably similar circumstances over the two seasons in terms of injury and absence..

He doesn't score a hattrick every away game against a bottom-half, or promoted team, though. You narrowed the data to his hauls, as if it's automatic than he hauls, and even then, the average haul was less than the haul he got in GW2 this time, so you gotsta admit, there's some luck even if it was a good decision. No shame in it!

      1. Unliklinho
        • 12 Years
        1 year, 3 months ago

I don't think I have claimed that he'll haul every home game against a weaker team. All I've tried to do is provide some actual statistics. If you want further analysis then, during the period, Haaland has played 37 times at home. He's returned 26 times (70.27%), and 29.72% of the home games he's played have resulted in hauls.

    Hi Guys -

Any advice on whether to hit or roll below. Or any other transfer anyone suggests?

    Flekken (Henderson)

    Gvardiol TAA Robinson (Lewis Faes)
    Salah Jota ESR Rogers (Bergvall)
    Isak Muniz Haaland (c)

    Jota & Isak > Palmer & J. Pedro for -4

Worth adding if I don’t do it this week I’m unlikely to get palmer until GW14

Okay so in the Champs League, there are still groups, but the groups are called pots, and the results from your group are added to an overall table, where the top third automatically qualify for the knockouts and the middle third go into playoffs. That right?

I'd save your transfer this week, there's not much upside to B or C you'll make use of an xtra tfr in the int break with more info

    Sels
Robinson / de Ven / Aina
    Palmer / Saka / Jota / Gordon
    Haaland / Isak / Welbeck

    Fabianski / Rogers / Hall / Johnson

    Play Rogers over Welbeck?

Did Gabriel -> Aina to afford Palmer, wanted Lewis but wasn't affordable

Madueke played last Thursday and scored and also played last Sunday and scored - so now he I’ll be benched because he keeps scoring - right

It's like plate-spinning at Chelsea. If he's spinning, his value is up, so it's time to get the other plates spinning for a while.

I really want to get him, even as a short-term punt before wc, but that's exactly what I'm worried about. I'm gonna stick with Eze this week I think.

Following my Rogers knee jerk (I did eyeball him anyway) I fully expect Bailey to be 'the one' in the next GW.

Short to medium term looks good...

Not sure if Jota somehow disappoints....seems to have a haul in him, but never actually delivers and ticks along nicely instead

Think of downgrading him to a 6.5 and upgrading defence
