I am starting to think this (& can get to Palmer) would be stunned if Arteta goes toe to toe in a gunfight now, he’s probably going to set up the dirtiest low block to frustrate Spurs & go for counters and set pieces.

It’s also putting me off Havertz who I’m sure will drop into Odegaard position, there’s plenty of forwards available but midfield is really thin this week, next weeks it’s better when Rice returns.

Saying that, Havertz played in midfield against Leverkusen and got 2 assists so maybe that’s a bit of over thinking.

Some years ago, the international breaks were good for WC to catch price rices/avoid price drops.
Seems like this is not the case anymore?

They dont count WC transfers, so it gets pretty irrelevant to WC to catch value.

I have always used WC during IB because it gives me more time to think and helps in dealing with random injuries, if any.

Last GW's wildcarders avoided pretty many price drops and did decent gains, of course not many double rises, though.

2023/24 in the GW5 IB no single player had a net price change greater than £0.1M.
Price changes were more prevalent in the week leading up to IBs last season compared to the actual IBs. Looks like the same pattern this season.

I think I'm closer to TC than not to captain Haaland this week.

6 days rest before Brentford at home and the data says Brentford have been a bottom half defending team this year so far (they've played Pool I suppose)

Arsenal fan here. Yah he's good for the easier home games. Still going forward and with saka increasingly spending more time coming in he essentially becomes a winger against low block teams especially at home

Could have got the assist Vs villa when saka got tackled instead and trossard scored

Arsenal getting screwed over badly by the IB.

Makes me a little bit more likely to do Saka > Salah. But it's really not looking good as a Havertz owner. A deeper midfield role beckons...

He can still get a goal, maybe even more likely in a haphazard London Derby he ends up coming from deep like a Lampard or McTominay.

Just had a look at fixtures for teams in the UCL. Crazy workload for elite players. Haaland as an example has already played three games since the start of September (nine days) including for Norway, and now Man City have seven games in three weeks before the next international break when Norway plays twice in a week. And so forth.

Basically, elite players have fixtures every three days until early January. There will be tons of injuries and heaps of rotation this season I reckon. Second half of the year they'll be knackered with a club world cup to come in the summer. It's nuts.

      1. Dutchy FPL

Yeah for me a reason to possibly WC6 with a strong bench instead of two cheap fodders. Think that can be a valuable strategy this year. We won't always now when a player gets benched.

        1. Sir Michael Taker
          • 11 Years
          1 year, 7 months ago

I think at the very top the league is too tight and you can't risk many changes and leave points behind. City consistently push that 90 point marker. Arsenal don't have the depth City and Liverpool do in attack to do that much rotating. Even for Liverpool and City Haaland and Salah are so important to how they play so hard to see them missing much through choice.

          1. MJF
              1 year, 7 months ago

The issue is though that Salah for instance was playing way below his top level last Spring - looked cream crackered. I think keeping an eye on how sharp he looks and selling at the right time will be the right move.

            • Dutchy FPL
              • 2 Years

Players like Salah, Haaland, Saka will play. Maybe early substitutions. Think players like Gvardiol, Robertson, KdB, Foden, Havertz, Diaz, Jota to name a few who are not the talisman will be affected way more. Palmer isn't registered for de ECL right? Can be a golden pick if you look at it that way.

            • RichardNixon
              • 9 Years

I reckon clubs will have no choice but to rest players or their bodies will fall apart. People seem to overlook the input of sports science in this respect. City/Pep are more willing to give players a break when they need it and other clubs will need to follow.

          2. RichardNixon
            • 9 Years
            1 year, 7 months ago

A strong bench could be useful I reckon. I'm doing that as well. The problem might be premium players coming on for 10min cameos which could happen against weak opponents. Saving transfers for inevitable injuries also a good idea.

But FPL aside, the workload these guys now have is absurd and not sustainable. Sure, they get paid crazy money but they're not robots. Something is going to give sooner or later.

        2. MJF
            1 year, 7 months ago

You're right. FIFPro said that the reason we've seen such form from Salah and Haaland early on is because each had a rest. Unfortunately money talks and they'd prefer quantity over quality. Few players will be at their sharpest come March that's for sure.

Wait at least for the Southampton game if you still have him now

Three notionally great fixtures from an attacking return POV - Saints have looked awful defensively, Palace have conceded several times, and as for Spurs.....

If you've kept for this long you may as well give him the Saints game.

Which two of these to start this GW?

            A) Porro
            B) Robinson
            C) Konsa

              Probably A & C, but close between Porro/Robinson.

Even if both Spurs and Fulham concede, I'd say Porro has a slightly higher chance of producing at the other end than Robinson. Especially against a second string Arsenal midfield.

fear of missing out on a price rise. I decided I fancied getting Lewis for 4.6m in case he becomes the ultimate warrior of FPL.

Got to start moving towards a decision. Full context:

            Henderson 4.0
            TAA Gabriel Robinson Johnson Barco
            Saka Jota Eze Rogers Sangare
            Haaland Havertz Pedro

            3.4m ITB.

            A) Saka > Salah
            B) Sangare > Diaz

It's going to be one of the two I think. If I could redo it, I might well have rolled another week instead of doing Isak > Pedro early but here we are.

I like B, issue is you’ll want Saka back for sure after City.. When I got rid last season he punished me heavily

I like B as well. But captaincy in GW5 is a problem.

You could take a punt on one of the Liverpool mids or Trent, risky but could work out

I see you have Havertz so maybe Salah is the best move… Tough decision

I don't think that changes my decision much. I think keeping triple Arsenal for the season is potentially lucrative but I think it will depend on Odegaard. If he's out for a long time, I think I sell Saka.

              I'd say A.

I don't see Arsenal getting much joy out of Spurs and City so not having triple Arsenal makes sense.

More crucially, I think you'll feel better for having Salah for those back to back home ties than Diaz - a penalty is probably due at some point too.

Genuinely think it's better to take a 0 than to waste a transfer on those moves.

Every transfer costs 4 points this season because you can roll up to 5 now so won't have to really worry about burning any.
