UCL Matchday 4 Picks

Picking out a Tuesday goalkeeper with convincing prospects is quite difficult. With that in mind, it could be worth investing as little as possible between the sticks, an option that Juventus’ Michele Di Gregorio (€4.5m) offers. The Italian may have frustrated many within the community due to his recent red card but he’s also helped his side claim a huge eight clean sheets in 11 Serie A matches.

If he fails to return against Lille, we could instead turn to Iñaki Peña (€4.5m). The Catalans enter their match with 33rd-placed Crvena Zvezda on the back of a clean sheet against rivals Real Madrid. Both stoppers are nice and cheap.

    Just putting it out there.
For 3 years on the trot many of us on here played a charity football tournament for charity in London. This was all pre Covid. We all had a great time and so many of us are still in touch and are in a big mini league.
We had people coming from all over including, Manchester, Southampton, Birmingham and even Newcastle.
It was 4 teams of 11 a side and was quite competitive. There were awards for best player and hardest worker.
The charities included MIND, testicular cancer and ocular cancer, for a member on here who sadly lost his battle with ocular cancer, his name on here was Absinthe.
I photographed the events and played in 1.
Would anyone on here be up for the same thing? I’ve met many of you IRL in many countries around the world and will even be meeting Walkman666 in New York in December.
I would get the help of some of the OG mods if all goes well. Mark Sutherns and Jonty came to them so was also a good opportunity for true FPL geeks and those that just want to meet. Players of all levels welcome and well go for a couple of drinks afterwards.

Think City could struggle against Sporting but it's a big call to bet against Haaland in UCL.

I have 3 FTs and have been planning to get Lewa as part of an attacking triple up. But Kane could also be a captain option MD2. Might even captain Gyok MD1.

I know a few might think I'm mad, but I'd still favour Saka here despite Bruno having the favourable fixtures. The way I see it is, that Chelsea goal was Bruno's first since April (it was only a penalty, too.) On the contrary, Saka ticks along nicely with relatively decent returns.

Hard to call. Arsenal may start improving but their fixtures are mixed. So it's a punt on whether United in general are going to step up with great fixtures and Amorim. No idea. I think Bruno may get a couple of returns in the next 3 though and is 2m cheaper.

    5ft and 0.0 itb

    My team atm
    Sels
    Myko Ran Gvardiol
    Palmer Madueke Foden Mbuemo
    Jackson Haaland Wissa

    Fabianski Konate vdberg dibling

3 chelsea attackers didn’t work out for me against United as ETh was sacked too quickly for me but they play very good attacking football and fixtures are also good after this game and Madueke and Jackson both are pretty good differential as well.

Ideally I want Saka and some other Arsenal defenders in 12 but I need to burn 1 Ft anyway

    1. Konate to Hall and use the money to upgrade foden to saka in 12
    2. Konate to martinez and use the money to upgrade foden to saka in 12
    3. Transfer Madueke or Jackson as 3 chelsea attackers are too much

Madueke is the weak link here quite clearly imo. You're already heavy on Chelsea and he's taking up a valuable slot in midfield.

Madueke > Semenyo seems very obvious to me for the long term. And then you can sell Haaland in 12 to buff Foden + Dibling > Saka + Salah.

The template seems really strong at the moment, needs a few injuries, or red cards for template players to create a mass divergence.
e.g. everyone active has or is aiming to get:
    RAN, Gabriel/Saliba, Gvardiol/Lewis
    Saka, Salah, Palmer, Mbuemo, Rogers
    Haaland

Obviously you can't have all 4 of those premiums, so that leaves most FFPlayers with choices of just 4 slots upfront depending if we go without a premium in mid or fwd (i.e. 1 Mid spare and 3 forwards for the Saka, Salah, Palmer teams, or 2 forwards and 2 mids for the Saka, Palmer, Haaland teams). Then even in those 4 there doesn't seem to be a huge amount of variation (Strand/Cunha, Wissa, ESR, McNeil, Son/Maddy/Johnson, Solanke, Havertz and a few others I can't be bothered to list)

So what's the solution to try and climb the ranks?

For me, if a transfer is a coin toss situation i.e. you can have A or B in the slot you are replacing then ownership statistics come into play, i.e. the player with the lower ownership is going to serve you better if he does well.

That's why I love the Spot the Differential article.

I think this season more than many has created a non-template environment. Premium defenders are blanking week after week. Haaland has been blanking. People were saying bin Salah and now he is key. Saka or Son?? Its all over the place!! Sooo many good cheap strikers and even Bruno at Utd may now come good.
Very weak template is my tldr

    2. Camzy
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member
      • 15 Years

The template seems strong? It's one of the most diverse it's been this season imo.

There are people holding onto Haaland, some with Salah, some with both. Some in transition to a midfield setup. Some with Trent and heavy defense, some with super cheap defense. Even in goal we have Raya in a lot of teams, Flekken, Sels supremacy.

Just about the only player that is in everyone's team atm is Mbeumo. That's it. Even Rogers is starting to be benched or removed. There are so many configurations of attack that I can't list them all because Raul, Cunha, Wood, Solanke are all in the mix.

There are lots of teams I think are excellent that have 6+ players different to mine. Because that's the case, there is absolutely 0 need for differentials for the sake of it imo.

Worth doing T(r)ossard + Porro for Fernandes and Mazraoui? I could lose a potential Porro haul against Ipswich but this is the only way to get Bruno into my team.

    1. Captain Mal
      • 1 Year
      1 year, 5 months ago

Porro has been a let down this season, but I'd give him the Ipswich game. I wouldn't get carried away by Bruno, he has potential but is nowhere near essential, it's only 3 fixtures that really stand out and 2 of them will be with a new manager.

Newcastle impressed me on Saturday, but mostly from a defensive standpoint, they didn't create that much. Plus they lose a lot of their power away from home. Isak is slightly more expensive, too.
Chelsea are improving game by game and have great fixtures after Arsenal.
On the other hand, Jackson is on 4 yellow cards and Isak is on penalties.
      I'd lean towards Jackson.

At the moment I don't feel overly comfortable with a Lewis start this weekend with Walker available. Walker was poor at the weekend and understandable with not much game time before the start. Probably will get more game time tonight against Sporting.

May need to start my 4th def, Mykolenko, over Lewis or bring forward a defender transfer this GW.

I'm confident in a Lewis start.

As you said, Walker was awful and City lacked control. I expect Lewis to start midweek and at the weekend.

I agree, both the build up and attacking right side was poor. Walker's speed is no longer considered a main attribute imo but I still have the doubt with Walker v Lewis for RB spot.

    3. mookie
      • 12 Years
      1 year, 5 months ago

Mitoma is a top ball carrier and they will need Walker's pace(if he still has it) in this game. Lewis is better against low block defenses.
I don't think he'll start if both fit. We'll have a better idea after the CL game.
Currently I have VdB starting ahead of him and would play Mykolenko ahead of both.

*Mykolenko ahead of both if I didn't have Bowen. He's so useless, I forgot about him. 🙂

I guess there's a few tactical points to consider

        - control possession and limit counter attacks
        - 1v1 match ups but I don't think Walker is actually great at 1v1 defending.
        - allow build up through one of the defenders like Lewis or Stones inverting/stepping up from defence

Would you do Palmer to Salah for free for next 2 gameweeks?
