320k net sales Semenyo and no drop? The red flag raised drop threshold then as soon as deadline struck, he's locked and re-set to zero. Useful 7th/8th until the Jan cup break.

I don’t want Haaland and I’m selling Wood for Jackson and Pedro for Watkins so wouldn’t want Welbeck, that leaves Watkins as the next highest scoring forward with some incredible fixtures, he hasn’t reached the heights of last season yet but getting on him early last season sent me soaring so I’m willing to take the gamble again!

I would leave it as it is. Wood and Lewis are the only ones worth considering selling, but you have a really strong bench, and you're already ahead of the game having Bowen.

I toyed with selling him before the deadline for Pedro as I intend to do it next week anyway (I think) and then bring in Saka. But I decided that I would give him a chance as Konate is injured, Alisson is still out and I reckon City might show up tomorrow against their title rival. As Pedro didn't score yesterday, so far so good. Let's see if I am proven right tomorrow.

That is a risk but I assume Chelsea have essentially used a different squad for Europe to help keep the main team fresh for this part of the season.

I’d expect some rotation but wouldn’t expect loads. I’d hope the likes of Jackson and Palmer play at least 60-70 mins and then get a rest once the game is won.

That VAR decision to disallow Southampton's goal is the worst VAR decision of the season for me. To suggest that Armstrong waving a back heel at a ball that was already behind him impacted Verbruggens ability to play the ball and prevent a goal is just absurd. Just another example of the VAR looking for a reason to disallow a legitimate goal. Disgraceful.

    1. WVA
      • 9 Years
      1 year, 3 months ago

People on here were saying it should clearly of been disallowed, it definitely shouldn’t have been but either way it clearly shows how utterly pointless VAR is, needs binning!

    2. Captain Mal
      • 1 Year
      1 year, 3 months ago

I don't know, I'm not a fan of VAR on general principle, but this one was a clear attempt to play the ball, I thought it was an obvious offside.

The attempt to play the ball isnt in dispute. The attempt needed to have impacted the opponents (Verbruggen) ability to play the ball and therefore prevent the goal. To suggest the action of Armstrong did this is absurd. Aaron Ramsdale who is a keeper agrees with me judging from his tweet.

It’s literally in the laws of the game mate

Making an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball

That's your interpretation. If the ball was in front of him and he attempted to play the ball, I think most would agree his action would have impacted at least one defender (if not two) and a goalkeeper, who have been tracking his run towards the ball (physically of mentally). In that case, I suppose the "action" seems longer, more consistent and plausibly impactful on others. In Armstrong's case, since the ball was behind his stride, and the flick is only a slight alteration on his normal run-cycle, the action seems short and less plausibly impactful, but I think the spirit of the rule is still flouted. The defenders and GK have been tracking him through an offside position only for the attacking side to say "psych! he was a decoy!" And if he is a decoy, he shouldn't go for the ball.

Tbh I think they should remove the impact on the opponents from the rule as much as possible, and wright the rules to assume impact or non-impact, because it shouldn't be for the referee to judge what information the players attend to and how they should play the game, with the possible exception of line-of-sight offsides.

I think you are talking about a different stipulation.

                    They are A or B or C
                    Not A and B and C

So "Making an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball" is not relevant to the attempt to play the ball, which is what Gooberman is talking about.

This? He clearly attempted to play the ball but this action didn’t impact on an opponent….

Clearly attempting to play a ball which is close when this action impacts on an opponent

Oh come on, he’s nowhere near it, doesn’t move differently because of it and doesn’t even appeal for it, he thinks it’s a good goal, if he had been effected by it he would have appealed

How do you know he doesn't move differently because of it? Perhaps it delayed his movement by 0.1 seconds. It shouldn't be a matter of degree, like one case is offside because a player was impacted a lot, and another case was not offside because he was impacted a little less. That would be too much for referees to figure out and would open the door for even more psychological biases in refereeing decisions. If players can see it happening, it has had an impact. Who are you to say it hasn't?

I get what you’re saying but we can see he wasn’t impacted, he was never getting there and even he knows that as he doesn’t appeal (say he was impacted to the ref) he’s a professional and knows the rules and was there.

Konate was a wonderful transfer in last week in a season that keeps on giving.

    1FT 2.6ITB

    Flekken
    Gabriel*, Konate*, Kerkez
    Salah, Palmer, Mbuemo, Rogers
    Pedro, Cunha, Isak
    Johnson, Dalot, Greaves*

Looks like I have to do a defensive transfer

Can only afford a 4.4 mil defender and -4 if I want to do Johnson to Saka but that would also mean benching Rogers

Mbuemo out for -4 for Saka but maybe not the best week. Or just Konate to Colwill etc. Any ideas?

If Greaves is available, I guess you could play Greaves / Kerkez / Gabriel and do Mbeumo to Saka, which is a move with higher upside.

Thanks both. Can’t afford Mbuemo to Saka without downgrading Konate sorry for wording wrong as I brought very early

Looked at Dunk and also Pau Torres but not sure it’s worth a -4

Feel your pain, having transferred in Veltman this week...

There's a fair bit of choice in the 4.4m def bracket. (Hall, Villa def, Dunk, AWB, etc)

I'd prefer to lose Johnson than Mbeumo.

I'd want Saka in the team ASAP. Considering the issues in your defence, I think a -4 is justifiable to bring Saka in and fix the defence at the same time.

Have the same midfield 5 and think I'd rather hold Johnson as Spurs do score a lot of goals. Mbeumo hasn't been as attacking in the last few games plus he's coming into a tougher run of fixtures

Those of us with Mbeumo & Semenyo may want to look at the very long-term home rotation this pair offers. Given both are very much homers - massive xGI home dominance v all types. There is just 1 away pairing, it's a kind one, until the end.

No one for now, 3 great fixtures after Liverpool. If you insist, Jackson is the best but it's likely he misses Soton. Watkins is a no no for me, Evanilson is useful if you need the money for another upgrade.
