Arsenal, Aston Villa and Newcastle United assets are on our differentials radar in Gameweek 31.

At the time of writing, these three players all have an ownership of 5.0% or less in Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

FPL Gameweek 31 team news: Isak, Kluivert + more injury updates

GABRIEL MARTINELLI

  • FPL ownership: 2.1%
  • Price: ยฃ6.5m
  • GW31-35 fixtures: eve | BRE | ips + CRY | – | BOU

Following a superb display in Arsenalโ€™s 2-1 win over Fulham on Tuesday, Gabriel Martinelli (ยฃ6.5m) is our headline selection.

The Brazilian produced an assist at the Emirates, when his deft flick teed up Bukayo Saka (ยฃ10.3m) for his goal.

He almost scored himself, too, but was deemed marginally offside when his effort hit the back of the net.

A constant threat down the left, Martinelli racked up three shots in the box, five chances created (see below) and 12 penalty box touches, the most of any other Arsenal player. He also enjoyed nine crosses from open play.

Above: Gabriel Martinelliโ€™s key passes v Fulham in Gameweek 30

โ€œMartinelli was superb. You see how much we missed him, that threat, that attacking purpose that he has every time heโ€™s on the ball.โ€ โ€“ Mikel Arteta

Youโ€™d think the return of Saka will galvanise Arsenalโ€™s attack, too, as the Gunners prepare to visit Goodison Park in Gameweek 31.

The Toffees have been in decent form under David Moyes, but have failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last seven matches.

It should also be pointed out that only Southampton and Nottingham Forest have conceded more key passes than Everton from their right flank in the last six Gameweeks, with just four clubs allowing more crosses from that zone.

In addition, Arsenal have a Double Gameweek 33 on the way, when they face Ipswich Town and Crystal Palace.

MARCO ASENSIO

  • FPL ownership: 3.1%
  • Price: ยฃ6.1m
  • GW31-35 fixtures: NFO | sou | NEW + mci | – | FUL

Itโ€™s a risky pick this, underscored by the fact that Marco Asensio (ยฃ6.1m) has started just two Premier League games for Aston Villa.

But having been benched in midweek and with some tasty fixtures on the horizon, the Spaniard potentially fits the bill as a differential gamble.

The reason Asensio has entered our thinking in Gameweek 31 is that he has been on fire since his Villa debut.

In just four starts and six sub appearances, heโ€™s plundered eight goals and one assist in all competitions.

โ€œThe adaptation is going quick with Asensio because he’s playing his position. Some teams don’t play with a No 10, but we do and it’s easy for him.โ€ โ€“ Unai Emery

Asensio could return to Unai Emeryโ€™s first XI for Saturdayโ€™s home clash with Nottingham Forest.

Itโ€™s one of the toughest match-ups an attacker can face this season, but Villa are unbeaten in 14 league matches on home turf, so heโ€™ll fancy his chances.

Asensio then faces Southampton in Gameweek 32, before enjoying a Double Gameweek 33, when Villa take on Newcastle United and Manchester City.

In an ideal scenario, he starts against Forest on Saturday, is a substitute for the midweek trip to Paris Saint-Germain, and subsequently comes back into the first XI against Southampton.

You can then probably expect one start and one sub appearance in Double Gameweek 33.

Given his impact off the bench since arriving at Villa Park, itโ€™s a gamble which could potentially pay off.

FABIAN SCHAR

  • FPL ownership: 2.0%
  • Price: ยฃ5.4m
  • GW31-35 fixtures: lei | MUN + CRY | avl | IPS | bha

Having recorded a clean sheet in their previous away fixture, Newcastle United look a decent bet for a second successive shut-out on the road in Gameweek 31.

Thatโ€™s because opponents Leicester City have failed to find the back of the net in seven successive league games, while no side has scored fewer goals in 2025.

Ruud van Nistelrooyโ€™s side are also bottom for attempts on goal, shots on target and expected goals (xG) since the turn of the year.

What potentially sets Fabian Schar (ยฃ5.4m) apart from his cheaper team-mates, such as Dan Burn (ยฃ4.4m) and Tino Livramento (ยฃ4.5m), is his goal threat.

Only 10 FPL defenders have registered more shots than Schar this season, with the centre-half prominent at set-piece situations and taking a few direct free-kicks, too.

Crucially, upcoming opponents Leicester and Manchester United both rank among the worst four sides for set play xG conceded in 2024/25, with 12.8 and 10.7 respectively.

There is also a Double Gameweek 32 to look forward to, plus an appealing clash against Ipswich Town in Gameweek 34, when four other teams blank.

So, with Kieran Trippier (ยฃ5.6m) flagged and Burn two bookings away from a suspension, Schar could be a nice differential pick to capitalise on Newcastleโ€™s kind fixture run.

Long time lurker ... was hoping to see more threads on the AM chip for this GW as no doubt there's a lot who've planned on playing it starting this GW.
I think Arsenal , Liverpool and Newcastle will win this week , so that's the 'safe' bet.
But the table bonus has to targeted in my opinion. Only options there really are West Ham and Brentford.
I'd fancy West Ham more than Brentford this week so I'm almost sure I'm going with Potter.
Anyone around playing it this GW and who are you going with?

I agree with you that table bonus must be targeted otherwise there is limited opportunity for playing the chip. Potter is the only one I would consider this week. How about 32 and 33, who would you fancy?

Never spent longer thinking about an FPL decision. Still Thinking:

      1) Arteta - Means I only have 2FT planned till GW33, and keep Triple Palace and Newcastle
      2) Glasner - Means 3FT Planned till GW33, Would have to sell Sarr though for boring Rogers or risky Asensio
      3) Howe - With triple Newcastle and Gabriel in my team plus wanting Saka, it books in at least a -4 till GW33 and would likely want to use more FT. So doesn't seem wise. Especially ahead of my Newcastle assets playing Leicester

Played my WC so am set up for no transfers other than AM.
Arteta in 33 , yeh. Glasner is high risk/reward. But not to confident after seeing them during the week.
Howe in 32 is my choice.

Yes I agree not confident on Glasner despite 5 games and 3 bonus games. I would go for Howe then switch to Arteta like many but it means Livramento and Gabriel to Konsa and someone for a -4 already this week. Then I need a transfer to switch Howe and another for Palmer to Saka. Before considering if I may want Watkins or further injuries etc.

Yes I'd agree with you. Is it worth it this week on two defenders. One won't play and selling Livramento before Leicester

              Can have

Livramento V Leicester and Man Utd and Palace
plus Arteta V Everton and Brentford

              Or Konsa v N.Forest -4 and Southampton
plus Howe v Leicester and Man United and Palace

Not keen on Potter really. And then it would be another two transfers on managers, one on losing Livramento, one on Gabriel and one on Saka so a total of 5 transfers and -8. Even worse. A -4 may be worth it not a -8 for me.

Asensio or Rashford on a GW31 wildcard... tough choice, especially as a Villa fan.

Honestly, as said above may be daft but kinda just fancy punting on something new. Sat around 100k at the moment after a poor week last week, still holding a league in most MLs that matter so don't want to muck about too much but Rashford or Asensio seem fun picks.

Sound stuff. After *not* wildcarding last week - and I was tempted to - I ended up with 69 points which for me is damned good. Chuffed. But I'm chasing... and am worried about Rashford's minutes with Watkins. Worried about that... or do you think Rashford is pretty much nailed?

I wish he was nailed but wouldn't go that far, especially with how congested Villa's schedule is on all three fronts (Prem, UCL, FA Cup).

But, he's proven he can do a lot even in limited minutes!

No point rating it if it's final, right?

      Looks good though, tbh.

Worth taking a one week punt and doing Bruno (MCI H) >>>> Son (SOU H?)?

    Yay or nay?

Hey. I still have my AM and BB chips left. Based on the latest fixture details, is there an obvious time to play them?

Seems likely I'll want my AM on GW33 at a minimum.

So who from of Isak, Trippier, and Gordon do we think will start on Monday night against Leicester?

I'm inclined to think they all will.

Worth bringing in Saka 4ph? Or is he likely to be rested for CL next week?
