Nottingham Forest got back to winning ways on Monday, thanks to first half goals from Elliot Anderson (£5.0m) and Chris Wood (£6.9m).

The Tricky Trees 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur is the next Gameweek 33 match to get the Scout Notes treatment.

WHY ELANGA WAS SUBBED OFF

In-form Anthony Elanga (£5.4m) started this match and looked dangerous in the first half.

Playing through the middle with license to roam, he provided the assist for Wood’s goal, so it came as a bit of a surprise to see him substituted at the break.

The switch involved a tactical reshuffle.

With Forest more than happy to back themselves defensively, Morato (£4.5m) was sent on, as Nuno Espirito Santo moved to a back five formation.

“We were controlling the game but Tottenham were having lots of crosses and space in the wide areas, so it [half time change] was about having an extra man and squeezing a bit more. You have one less man to press in midfield but you then have one more in the box.” – Nuno Espirito Santo

WOOD ENDS GOAL DROUGHT

Chris Wood ended his drought in north London, notching his 19th Premier League goal of the season and his first since Gameweek 25.

It was the Kiwi forwards’ only shot of the match, but he did impress with his overall centre-forward play, and prior to this goal, had another effort ruled out by VAR.

Forest’s game plan hardly helped, with the Tricky Trees happy to defend deep and soak up the pressure.

In fact, Nuno’s entire team were restricted to just four shots and 0.64 expected goals (xG) at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Still, it was a positive night for Wood, who was withdrawn on 75 minutes, surely with one eye on Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City.

SPURS DEFENCE BODES WELL FOR LIVERPOOL IN GAMEWEEK 34

As for Tottenham, to say they’ve got defensive issues would be an understatement.

Spurs supporters booed the team off at half-time on Monday, having allowed Forest to build a comfortable 2-0 lead.

Guglielmo Vicario (£4.8m), who made a string of errors at Molineux in Gameweek 32, really ought to have done better with both goals, as well as the one that was ruled out.

Cristian Romero (£4.9m) and Micky van de Ven (£4.5m), meanwhile, struggled to deal with long balls.

“Another disappointing loss. A loss that for large parts was self-inflicted. We conceded two poor goals and gave ourselves a mountain to climb. It’s hurt us all year, we’ve let ourselves down. It’s a game we should have won tonight and it’s another one this year. There shouldn’t have been a slow start.” – Ange Postecoglou

“It’s the finer details… concentration, focus, understanding the threats the opposition have.” – Ange Postecoglou

Tottenham face Liverpool at Anfield next, in what could be the match that confirms the Reds as champions.

And with an important UEFA Europa League semi-final against FK Bodo/Glimt to follow just a few days later, owners of Liverpool attackers will have been licking their lips watching this.

“It is a bit of a balancing act. We have got to be ready for Thursday week, that is the big game for us. We have to have all of our players healthy and in good condition.” – Ange Postecoglou

RICHARLISON THREAT

Tottenham did at least improve after conceding twice, with Mathys Tel (£5.8m) and Wilson Odobert (£5.3m) dangerous down the flanks.

They finally got the breakthrough when Richarlison (£6.8m), who started in place of Dominic Solanke (£7.3m) up front, glanced Pedro Porro’s (£5.3m) cross into the far corner beyond the impressive Matz Sels (£5.1m).

Richarlison racked up seven shots in the box in Gameweek 33, including three big chances.

Above: Richarlison’s shot map v Nottingham Forest

Porro, meanwhile, whipped in 23 (!) crosses and created seven chances for his team-mates.

There were other opportunities, too, with Dejan Kulusevski (£6.2m) having a header cleared off the line.

Spurs had nothing to show for it, however, even if on another day, Forest could easily have conceded two or three.

Finally, Postecoglou confirmed that Romero and van de Ven’s half-time changes were pre-planned.

“I thought they needed to play some minutes tonight because it becomes 10 days leading into Liverpool. With both of them we’ve got them in a really good place physically now and I just want to keep them ticking over. I felt that there was no need to play more than 45 minutes today and we need to get a couple of others game time.

“I just felt that if it was Sunday we probably wouldn’t have played them, but on a Monday, especially for Micky because he’s been playing just one game a week, we need to build him up because he’s in a really good place at the moment so I thought 45 minutes for both of them would be beneficial.” – Ange Postecoglou on his pre-planned half-time changes

    FH or not FH ?

Can get 11 playing with a -4 but have x mins issues with Bradley and Murphy.

    Bradley Dunk Burn.
    Salah Diaz Palmer Murphy.
    Isak.

Raya Hendo Gvardiol Munoz Sarr. Marmoush J Pedro.
    2 FT 3.7 itb.

    Would you FH ?
Or save it for 36/37 ?

Save easily. You could run riot with a spare fh when everyone is taking hits for the dgw 36 and blank

        Cheers for your thoughts.
It was always the plan to not use FH34. It's the return of Trent and Gordon having an impact on Bradley and Murphy minutes that are making me doubt it. Oh, and less said about that clown J Pedro the better!!

I'm a filthy casual who used FH in GW29 and bought a load of doublers last week, so now I need to wildcard.

If you could pick x4 (1 GK) players who blank this week to bench for later who would they be?

GK aside, Marmoush, Gvardiol and Saka.

It's who I plan to bench on my FH36 strategy.

City's fixtures are really good and they still have CL spot to play for. Arsenal also have really strong fixtures to end the season and are arguably the most in-form team in the league. For GW38, I'll want 3 vs Southampton.

I'm on WC and considering going without Saka. I think CL could be a huge distraction the next few GWs and cause some rotation. I'll bring him by GW38, but with a load of money ITB, I think I can delay that decision move until after GW35.

You can go without but I think he's the highest ceiling player in the game. Even more than Salah lately.

If you FH36, or bench him vs Liverpool, his fixtures read BOU NEW sou.

I just don't know who else I'd want in midfield. Salah, Mbeumo and a Newcastle mid are obvious. So that leaves 2 slots left. I can't pick a definitive mid to pick up for the last slot yet alone 2.

Similarly Newcastle don’t have great fixtures either really. On my WC35 my midfield will be likely 5 from:

            Salah
            Mbeumo
            KDB
            Rogers
            Bowen
            Kluivert
            Elanga

Probably in that order of likelihood, somewhat dependant on GW36 doubles if any.

Fair points. Bowen, Rogers, Elanga and maybe Kluivert could be decent, but not necessarily jumping out as picks.

Given the specific fixtures, they look good. Over a 4or 5 week sample you only need say 2 hauls to be awesome value.

        Do Arsenal have great fixtures?

Bournemouth, Liverpool and Newcastle, with the distraction of midweek CL games?

I’m on WC35 and Saka will be my KDB replacement in 37 or 38. I’d rather bench Saliba than Saka. The fact you are on FH36 makes it a bit different for you.

Yeah maybe it's different for me because of FH36, but I think fixtures aside, Saka is the highest ceiling pick in the game.

I saw a stat this morning that he's like 10th among all players in the top 5 leagues for chances created this season with 20. This season - that he's missed 3 months of. He's hugely influential and I think he can haul big in any given match.

Us Saka (c) were really really unlucky vs Ipswich. It could and should've been a much bigger points haul.

I think we'll be unlucky if Saka doesn't start against Palace. I was expecting a cameo against Ipswich and a full Arsenal team against a rotated Palace.

I’d be shocked if Saka starts tomorrow given he started Ipswich and come off with ice on his leg - there’s literally no point in risking him. I’m half expecting him not to get on the pitch.

Yeah that’s fair, my debate all week was do I do Palmer to Saka for what would have been an effective -8 given on FH29 and WC35.

Kept Palmer but I agonised over the decision, suggesting I thought Saka was in isolation a great pick.

You might well be right but I wouldn’t understand the logic at all. As you said above he’s already proven that he doesn’t need to work himself back into form and the match itself is meaningless. Wrap him up in cotton wool and maybe a sub appearance.

That’s also wishful thinking, but really don’t see much upside to Arteta starting him.

The logic is simple. Saka is a professional footballer who wants to and is able to play every 3 days. If he's fit and ready, why not play him for game rhythm and to test tactics?

Rest is one thing, but they have a full week and a half after this game. If the PSG game was in 3 days I'd totally understand resting him but with so long before the next game, only 56 mins vs ips, it makes sense to play as strong a team as you can this week to test out some new tactics and setups for PSG and Saka is integral to Arsenal's attacking play.

I really do think he starts. If he doesn't start, I think it's because there is a lingering injury issue. But if fit, I don't see why not start him.

Actually it’ll only be 6 days until the first leg rather than a week and a half.

And I’m not too sure what the new tactics and setups would be - Arsenal have a very established style and starting lineup so I don’t think that’s needs “practice” as such. Plus it wouldn’t be a great game for it, Palace away are going to play very differently to how PsG will so you can’t really practice the same style of game.

Let’s wait and see, Arteta does love playing Saka every game but personally in these specific circumstances it wouldn’t make sense to me.

So annoying isn't he. He got taken off as a precaution. So frustrating especially as all the usual lucky buggers had Marmoush captain. I think he should start as they will need to get him as match fit as possible but that may have scared Arteta somewhat. They need to get 2nd place done and dusted though. We deserve a massive haul after the bad luck last game

Agreed in principle, but when wildcarding with 5 games left I just don’t think any player is worth 10.5 when 3 of those fixtures are a blank, a highly probable sub appearance in 35 and Liverpool away.

Fair enough but my point still stands even with budget point. Let’s say the season ended after 36 you wouldn’t bring in any player for a blank, the sandwich between two CL semis and Liverpool away. So just bring Saka in in 37/38 no need to have him on wildcard.

Yeah, he's not in my WC team. I'll be able to bring him in when I want before GW38 based on what info we get in the coming weeks. Knowing it's an option means that I can get a bit more punty on a mid pick this week.

    2. Hairy Potter

I'm guessing you'd prefer it to be 2 defenders and an 8th attacker? It depends if you still have BB, and also who your team is for GW34.

Keeper depends on who you're starting this GW. Is there a chance that keeper blanks or doubles in GW36/37? If not then maybe go for a 2nd keeper like Martinez or Sels who could double.

In defence, maybe Gvardiol is a good pick. Having someone from Forest or Everton that you can play in good fixtures going forward might help. If you play a Fulham or Wolves defender this GW, you might want to bench them in coming GWs.

Maybe Rogers or Marmoush. Depends on what you want your starting 11 to be this GW, or if you want to hide Wissa on your bench.

Marmoush, Rogers and Gvardiol probably. The GK depends on your other GK. Wouldn't want them both to possibly have a blank in GW37.

FH34, would you consider excluding any of the following?
Like TAA due to xMins doubts, also any rotation for Barnes, Isak not that lucky with goal recently, double Wolves fwd too much?

Which midfielders would you be transferring in, budget not an issue but must be able to play GW34 and then expect to start until end of the season

    Pick 2

    A) Mbuemo
    B) Bowen
    C) Kluivert
    D) Bruno
    E) Elanga
    F) Iwobi

How about this FH team. 0.4 itb to improve:

    Sels (Areola)
Livramento - Aït Nouri - TAA (Neco Williams, Toti)
Salah - Bruno - Palmer - Bowen (Murphy)
    Isak - Cunha - Wood

    A) Keep, good team
    B) Bowen to Mbeumo
    C) Bruno to Kluivert
    D) Other

I like to have some players on a FH who have all the set pieces. If Man U score, and that's a big if, Bruno is almost always involved. But, obviously the difficult away game and United's dramatic form, makes me doubt it.

I'd have doubts on TAA starting.

You should be ok with Diaz, Barnes and Murphy but there are alternate options available with Liverpool/Newcastle that could cause a surprise.

Bowen seems like a chaser's punt but could pay off.

Isak, Wood, Cunha (Isak to Marmoush for 35)

Mbeumo, Bowen Elanga, KDB, Murphy, (maybe Salah, no Saka), Rogers are on my short list GW35. Forest V Brentfort makes it a little trickier but it will be only after the Forest FA Cup semi final and Brentford are off for 12 days, so I like Wissa too. (especially if Cunha is off), I am waiting for team news on that one anyway May go Gapko as he is at home, if there is any risk, or on WC34 i'd just go Wissa set and forget.

I dont see Newcastle games that difficult with Chelsea and Everton and Brighton away.

Arsenal wont be on the beach, if the beat PSG but will be if they dont. Same goes with Liverpool after this GW.

I've got no personal interest in the Bradley/TAA debate but I think they'll both get a 60/30 ish as both are fresh back from injury. Finding WC34 (final chip) very tricky - trying go get the balance between good team GW34/35 and cover any potential doubles GW36 but then also survive potential BGW37

    Currently on:

    Kepa (Martinez)
    RAN, TAA, Schar (Gvardiol, Milenkovic)
    Bowen, Salah, Mbeumo, Kluivert (Rogers)
    Wood, Isak, Cunha

    0.0 in bank.
Will look to bring at least 1 more doubler in 36 (another City player probably) and then have 2 FTs in 37 to clear any out.

    Any thoughts?

I WCd a couple of weeks ago and don't have FH so i currently have Konate too.

I will be using a FT to bring in RAN, but i won't be using another FT to bring in Sess and play him over Konate, so i guess that answers your question.

I'm basically doing 1 and 2 in your scenario.

Thanks, yea I’m leaning towards the hit not being worth it, but very undecided what’s my preference between RAN and Sessegnon. (Other FT will be mateta to Cunha but that’s a no brainer)

Rest of my defence is Gvardiol, Konate, Cucurella, Trippier so i will use RAN in 34, 36 and 38.

I would only use Sess in 34 and 36, if that helps.

Entirely depends on your opponent’s team and decisions so hard for us to say much.

Fundamentally I wouldn’t punt for punts sake, focus on doing what you think is the best move, but if you are torn between 2 players, go for the one your opponent doesn’t have.

Rating Free Hit teams is a bit pointless imo. It's one week. Anything can happen. And every FPL manager should be able to pick XI players for a single week. Who can honestly say Barnes is more likely to score than Murphy?

As long as you pick 11 playing players and go after the fixtures you think are favorable we're all shooting in the dark if it's one week only. By all means go for the likes of Welbeck, Strand Larsen, Sessegnon as long as you think they start and have potential for goals.

Obviously it's all luck on the day, but it's pretty easy to judge whether Player X is better than Player Y based on what we've seen previously.

You could say the same about every chip if you play it in a single gw. At least a double spreads that risk of a no show for a game assuming you get two starts out of it which isnt a given this week.

No not really. Because people asking for transfer advice have longer outlooks which influence which player will be a stronger pick over time and also within team structure.

If it's just a single week, there's none of that. Pick who you want and hope to get lucky.

      I see your point

It's a bit like snow blindness with the amount of FH teams.

In fact you could easily switch off till Thurs or Friday and decide then.

The reason I play this silly game is because I kid myself that I do know if Murphy will outscore Barnes.

Don't blow my bubble champ, please.

Lol. Its got to the stage where we don't even know if somebody is 'nailed' or not. The amount of CCs saying Rashford is definetly the main striker now. Nobody knows anything its all best guesses

Yeah, look - in all fairness - if your source of truth is YouTube and Instagram - you might as well roll the dice.

I think I'm going for my front 7 as all players going against the relegation fodder, except Salah. Then Cuceralla, Ran, TTA in def and Leno as gk. There is a lot of luck involved obviously, how saka got 1 point last gw is amazing

Agreed. I got lucky on FH29 going Milenkovic over Aina and Elanga over CHO. All were potentially good picks beforehand.

wow that is good. Went Milenkovic. Was on 19 + points before Ipswich scored. Kerkez, Robinson outscored the Gvardiol and (another defender cant remember. Had Bruno but captained Haaland.

It is pot luck on the day. Was so close to Elanga, listened to Blackbox 🙂
