For Premier League fans, the daily churn of transfer rumours is a thrilling, albeit sometimes theatrical, source of football sustenance. While some rumours can feel entirely fabricated, they undoubtedly provide excitement.

In contrast, EFL fans often don’t get the same volume of speculative “here we go” bombshells. Instead, they typically receive immediate, old-school announcements, which can feel incredibly satisfying and joyous in their directness.

For Fantasy EFL managers, there is nothing like new signings to heighten the excitement of a new season. We’ve already had over 350+ moves, and it’s only mid-July!

FANTASY EFL NEWS: NORWICH CITY STAR DEPARTS

Borja Sainz’s (F) anticipated departure from the Canaries has come to fruition, with the forward joining 30-time Portuguese champions FC Porto for £14.25 million.

Sainz, alongside Josh Sargent (F), was a key offensive force last season, with the duo combining for 33 goals.

The Spaniard began the season impressively, netting two hat-tricks in the first half of the campaign. However, his form dipped in the second half of the season after receiving a six-match ban for spitting at Sunderland’s Chris Mepham. He added just three more goals to his tally, finishing second in the Championship top-scorer race. Despite this, his contributions from the wing were significant.

This transfer leaves a void in Liam Manning’s squad, and the future of USMNT international Sargent in East Anglia is still uncertain.

However, the club may have found a replacement in Matthias Kvistgaarden (F), who had a blistering campaign last season, operating in similar roles to Sainz.

IPSWICH TOWN MAKE A DOUBLE SIGNING

Following the triggering of Liam Delap’s £30 million relegation release clause by Chelsea, many wondered not for the squad, but for the manager.

However, it seems Kieran McKenna is here to stay at Portman Road and will be looking to lead his side back to the top-flight.

There have been links away for many of their other top assets, including Omari Hutchinson, but at present, the main group of the squad is in-tact.

Until now, the Tractor Boys hadn’t made any marquee signings. That changed with a double move, bringing in replacements for players like Axel Tuanzebe and Jens Cajuste.

Azor Matusiwa (M), a Dutch midfielder from Rennes, has joined for an undisclosed fee, signing a four-year deal. The Ajax academy graduate provided four goal contributions last season and made 36 interceptions in 29 starts.

Elsewhere, Cedric Kipre (D) arrives from Reims on a season-long loan, with an option to buy.

The Ivory Coast international has EFL experience, playing for Wigan, WBA and Cardiff City. He made 28 appearances last campaign in Ligue 2, making 154 clearances, alongside other defensive returns.

‘DIDZY’ RETURNS TO THE EFL

David McGoldrick (F) made a triumphant return to his boyhood club, Notts County, enjoying two impressive campaigns. The veteran forward proved instrumental in the Magpies’ playoff bid, scoring 17 goals and assisting five in just 36 appearances.

He was named in the Sky Bet League Two Team of the Season, alongside strike partner Alassana Jatta (F).

The 37-year-old has signed a one-year deal with Barnsley, signed by former international teammate and now manager Conor Hourihane. He’s reached double-figure goal returns for the previous three seasons in a row, ageing like fine wine.

STOKE CITY BAG A BARGAIN

The Potters have signed former West Ham left-back Aaron Cresswell (D) on a one-year deal, with the potential for a further 12 months, on a free transfer.

During his 11 years in the top flight, the 35-year-old made over 350 appearances and scored 11 goals. He’s played a total of 587 career matches, contributing to over 90 goals, many from set-pieces.

Notably, the defender worked with assistant manager Paul Nevin at the Hammers, and joins Mark Robins’ squad, who had a mediocre campaign last season, finishing 18th.

If Cresswell does end up on set-pieces, the experienced full-back could be one to watch.

HAT-TRICK AT KENILWORTH ROAD

Following an exodus from Kenilworth Road, including Thelo Aasgaard (M), Carlton Morris (F) and Amari’i Bell (D), Matt Bloomfield’s side have continued to dip into the market, as they look to escape League One by immediately bouncing back into the Championship.

Not just one or two, but three new signings will look to help the cause.

Experienced striker Nakhi Wells (F) has been brought in to lead the line, having bagged 174 goals in English football. Last season, the Bermuda international scored 10 goals and provided four assists in 41, helping Bristol City to a play-off run.

Bolstering their squad from attack to defence, Hakeem Odoffin (D) comes on a free transfer from Rotherham United. The centre-back was a standout performer for the Millers, tallying 265 points in 44 appearances, a higher Fantasy return score than any current Luton player. Odoffin’s tally included 261 clearances and six goal contributions.

Finally, Nigel Lonwijk (D) has joined on a season-long loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, who previously worked with Bloomfield at Wycombe.

DERBY COUNTY MAKE A STATEMENT OF INTENT

Following a strong transfer window that saw the departure of older squad members and shrewd new additions, the club has secured a significant coup by signing USMNT international Patrick Agyemang (F).

They successfully fended off competition from numerous clubs to land the former Charlotte FC striker, penning a four-year deal.

He boasts an impressive record of 17 goals in 59 MLS regular-season matches, with a standout performance last season, netting eight goals and two assists in just 18 appearances.

His form earned him a call-up to lead the line for the USA at the CONCACAF Gold Cup, where he helped his nation reach the final. He currently holds five goals in 12 international caps.

Agyemang will miss some of the opening 2025/26 matches, having undergone surgery for a hernia injury.

But once back to full fitness, he and Carlton Morris (F) could form a threatening partnership, alongside Jerry Yates (F) too.

OUT-OF-POSITION STAR IS BACK

Special mention goes to Daniel Imray (D) of Crystal Palace, who has joined Blackpool on a season-long loan.

The wing-back featured 39 times for Bromley last campaign, scoring 190 points, mainly thanks to his one goal and 10 assists. Named Young Player of the Season, he regularly played on the wing for the Ravens, and if Steve Bruce deploys him there, he’s one to watch.
