The addition of defensive contribution (DC) points from 2025/26 onwards has Fantasy managers planning for the future by revising the past.

We’ve already recalculated the FPL points of every single Premier League player last season! You can find those revised totals, which also factor in the assist and bonus changes, via the linked image below:

FPL 2025/26: Every player's revised points from last season - DC, assists + bonus! 1

Rodri (£6.5m), of course, doesn’t feature high up the list.

A serious knee injury restricted Manchester City’s monster to just 74 league minutes in 2024/25.

But as one of the division’s most heralded defensive midfielders, he’ll surely stand to benefit from DC points as Moises Caicedo (£5.5m) did last season.

The current Ballon d’Or holder racked up eight goals and 10 assists in 2023/24, ranking 12th amongst all Fantasy Premier League (FPL) midfielders on 159 points.

Defensive contributions would have made him even better – but by how much?

For answers, we look back to that 2023/24 campaign – his last full season – and consult our Members Area for answers.

How do midfielders get FPL defensive contribution points?

FPL 2025/26 defensive contributions: What is a block?

While defenders need to accumulate 10+ clearances, blocks, interceptions and tackles (CBIT) in a match to receive two extra points, it’s slightly different for other positions.

Midfielders and forwards must achieve 12+ clearances, blocks, interceptions, recoveries and tackles (CBIRT).

In all cases, players are capped at two DC points per match.

BB GW1. With a WC in GW4/6. So basically targeting the first 3 weeks.

    Areola Kindly
    Cucu Nunes O'Brien Udogie Gudmundson
    Palmer Marmoush Rogers Kudus Damsgaard
    Haaland Pedro Welbeck

    Thoughts?

In the first 3 I prefer Haaland over Salah.

Fair enough, dont think im brave enough to go without salah GW1

I haven't posted one yet, so here goes the first. Initial thoughts are to BB GW1, maybe FH GW2, FT GW3 and WC GW4 once the window closes.

    Kelleher, Areola
    Gvardiol, VVD, Colwill, Udogie, AWB
    Salah, Palmer, Rice, Gana/Anderson, Baleba
    Bowen, J.Pedro, Solanke

Will look to move to fodder in a couple of positions with the GW4 WC and then maximise starting XI plus rotating sub

Sounds solid, although I'm not keen on FH2. I think I'd rather keep than in my back pocket for the first week I feel like doing a - 8 for example.

Using BBGW1 will be more viable if you feel the squad strength is viable afterwards with bench players. The Darlow news this morning was a blow to be honest.

I like the early WC plan.

It was so I could target those Arsenal assets, have a mini-reaction to GW1 unknown's or players I think could perform well and move from there (I do like the -8 idea though).

The WC would be to downgrade the likes of Areola to a non-playing 4m GK and just leave Kelleher (so his deputy) and then maybe bring down Solanke/Bowen to a Beto and upgrade elsewhere if needed (Solanke/Bowen to a more expensive striker or Gana/Anderson to another reasonably priced mid, such as Elanga if he's had 3 GWs getting the nod over Murphy for example or if Mbeumo/Cunha look like standouts or if Schade really will be the new superstar at Brentford)

yeah agreed, ive set up a team and started a watchlist but no point even pretending its anything like final yet

Harvey Elliott or Kieran Dewsbury-Hall move, tinker. Isak to Liverpool, tinker. Gyokeres in, tinker.

Might be better off making a plan on how you're going to use chips and when to wildcard.

I know I'll want to try and save the 5 free transfers from 16 into the second half of the season, how do I facilitate that.

Agreed, I'm waiting for Gykores and Isak's future's to be settled now, could be convinced to go without Salah if that happens. So far I have a Salah team, a Haaland team and a Salah + Haaland team!

Yet to completely nail down a No Salah + No Haaland team yet that I really like but could be the case with Gykores and Isak moving

I need my PC so I can sit down and do early season chip strategy too (BB GW1 with a GW4 WC vs a GW8 WC and abusing the FTs around GW15 for dead-ending into a BB then using the free 5FTs to mini-wildcard out of it setting up for second half of the season)

I read recently that around 57% of premier league games last season both teams scored.

Still leaves a few clean sheets to go for.

Saka will be treated with great care. May not play full 90 mins. Also has the new guys (eg Gykores) who can play in his spot to give him a rest. Just took him out of my team. Gykores deal just about done.

Gakpo's first choice LW, if Diaz stays he will be striker predominantly but it looks like Bayern will sign him. Darwin of not sold will be resigned to bench duties.

Brentford might be in huge trouble this season, it seems?

Does anyone have a 4.5m midfielder who is a guaranteed starter?

Some people say Aaron Ramsay (Burnley) might be, but who knows...

This has got to be a record - I've had this team for three days and haven't changed it yet. Thoughts?

    Kelleher (Valdimarsson)
Gvardiol | Cucurella | Murillo | VdV (Myko)
Salah | Palmer | Wirtz (Reijnders, Miley)
    JP | Bowen | Beto

I'm not a fan of such a heavy defence, but I don't mind it. Beto is a no-go though.

Not a fan of JP, he will lose penalties and minutes to rotation. Not sure about Kelleher but he is up there if you are set on a 4.5. Otherwise looks nice. I like the Miley pick.

Jesus, using both FPL and FFS on desktop is horrible :/ Slightly better on mobile, but still huge downgrade in terms of user navigation.

The fixture ticker for FFS only being on home page

Laborious clicking to show player list based on a specific 'team' when doing transfers on FPL

      - Vicario may not be the #1
      - Is Nmecha a starter?
      - I don't think Johnstone 4.5m is a starter.
      - Surely better 4.5m def options than injury prone Dunk

Dalot will face too much rotation to be worth it. I don't think Nmecha will be first choice. Also not a big fan of JP, he won't be on penalties and will lose minutes to rotation.

Anyone itk on Ryan Christie? Surgery towards the end of last season. Is he expected to be back in and play 90s or more likely eased back in? Cheers!

    Kelleher

    VDV / Colwill / Gvardiol

Palmer / Saka / Wirtz / Foden (or Mbeumo)

    Isak / Bowen / Wood

    Subs : Darlow / Konsa / Esteve / A. Ramsey

will probably change VDV/Konsa and alternate the 2 best 4.5 starters as it becomes more clear who are the best starters/ 2 team rotation

Rather Salah than Saka who will be handled with care and not play 90 mins. He also had Gykores so he can rest sometimes.

Madueke will rest Saka, not Gyo. Not sure how early this will start though, so if you are keen on Saka for his first two games, I say go for it.
