Now that our first FanTeam draft for EPL Fantasy is creating an online buzz, it’s time to discuss a good strategy that can bring success.

After all, with a guaranteed minimum prize pool of £175k up for grabs, managers will be extremely competitive when fighting to finish inside the top 10%. The season-long game costs £10 to enter.

WHAT IS FANTEAM EPL FANTASY?

Managers will be familiar with this simple, straightforward format that embraces the roots of Fantasy Football.

Just like Fantasy Premier League (FPL), managers have a £100m budget to select 15 players (no more than three per club), making weekly decisions about captaincy and how to use the latest free transfer.

FanTeam is back for 2025/26 EPL Fantasy 1

The only chip is a Wildcard – one for each half of the season. There aren’t any defensive contribution (DC) points either.

To ensure fairness, no late entries will be allowed this time. Everyone starts on a level playing field from Gameweek 1.

WHAT IS THE IDEAL FANTEAM STRATEGY?

On a basic level, FanTeam managers usually think the same thoughts:

  • Buy the attack-minded full-backs
  • Squad depth isn’t essential when there’s no Bench Boost chip
  • Choose your time to Wildcard based on good and bad fixture swings

However, while point-scoring is the same as FPL when it comes to clean sheets, assists and outfielder goals, some tiny differences may improve the FanTeam prospects of particular players.

FanTeam is back for 2025/26 EPL Fantasy 2

Pick a goalkeeper who makes lots of saves

Whereas FPL gives a singular point for every three saves, FanTeam rewards 0.5 after each one.

So if a goalkeeper stops five shots, he’ll gain 2.5 points rather than one – good news for busy ones!

Last season’s most frequent saver – Mark Flekken – has moved to Germany and second-best Aaron Ramsdale (£5.0m) is now Newcastle United’s backup. Following them were Jordan Pickford (122, £5.5m) and Matz Sels (120, £5.5m), but after that came potential £4.5m bargain Bernd Leno (113).

Another £4.5m guy, Bart Verbruggen, denied 91 attempts.

Shots on target receive points

Here, attackers get 0.4 points for each shot on target.

As well as the big names you’d expect – Erling Haaland (£13.0m), Mohamed Salah (£13.5m), Cole Palmer (£11.0m) and Alexander Isak (£10.5m) – this brings good news for Matheus Cunha (£8.0m), Antoine Semenyo (£7.0m), Ollie Watkins (£9.5m), Jarrod Bowen (£8.0m) and Chris Wood (£7.5m).

At the back, defenders receive 0.6 every time. Last season, we saw Daniel Munoz (£5.5m), Josko Gvardiol (£6.5m), Marc Cucurella (£5.5m), Fabian Schar (£5.5m) and Rayan Ait-Nouri (£6.0m) benefit from this.

Choose 90-minute attackers

It’s harder for midfielders and forwards to avoid being substituted. So those who successfully complete a full match are given an extra point.

Identifying such important players could prove fruitful in FanTeam. Bryan Mbeumo (£9.0m) did so on 35 occasions at Brentford but has just changed clubs. And new teammate Bruno Fernandes (£8.5m) completed 28 of the 33 starts where he wasn’t sent off.

Others to complete at least 25 were Salah, Haaland, Palmer, Semenyo, Bowen and Enzo Fernandez (£7..0m).

Make the most of some bargain £4.5m defenders

Meanwhile, this very exciting price point features James Tarkowski, Jarrad Branthwaite, Jake O’Brien, Patrick Dorgu, Maxim De Cuyper, Maxence Lacroix and El Hadji Malick Diouf, amongst others.

It’s feasible to begin with two or three of these and shift the remaining budget elsewhere.

Cover a range of price points

A smart tactic is to touch various popular values. Although the best players tend to be reliable for big scores, squeezing in too many will likely require lots of cheap colleagues.

Ignoring plenty of good, mid-priced options, such a sacrifice lacks flexibility. Should one or two of these hit spectacular form, jumping onto them would need a squad overhaul that uses lots of transfers – maybe even points hits.

Alternatively, spreading out the £100m budget more evenly means that picking the wrong individual can be quickly fixed by one transfer.

For example, if Phil Foden (£9.0m) returns to his stunning 2023/24 form, it’s a simple switch for Florian Wirtz (£9.0m) owners.

      Looks solid.
Double NFO defense could pay off massively, if they go on similar run like last season.
Potts vs. Ramsey - who’s likely to get more minutes?

Cheers. Had sanchez in goal earlier but not sure of chelsea's defence after Colwill's injury.
4.5m mid spot currently up for grabs, probably clearer closer to deadline.

    What are your thoughts on:

    1) Wirtz or Gakpo?
    2) With Son gone and Maddison out, who will benefit? Kudus? BJ? I like the Spurs' fixtures, but don't own any atm.
    3) Is it safe to pick Reijnders from gw1? Feels wrong not owning any City attackers.
    4) Would you downgrade Saka to upgrade VDV to VVD? I have 3x 4.5m defenders with 2x 4m bench fodder

    1. iFash@FPL

      1. Most think the new kid on the block, but I believe Gakpo has a point to prove and should do well.
      2. Both. BJ seems to be more productive than the cheaper Kudus.
      3. Except for Haaland and maybe Gvardiol, the MCI squad is wait & see for me.
      4. Arsenal is also wait and see for me. Relatively poor pre-season, and PK duties up in the air. And Virgil is almost always a solid pick.

      1) Wish I knew! Am on Wirtz atm but he often changes to Gakpo draft by draft when I'm looking for funds.
      2) I like BJ but am currently toying with a punt on Sarr for GW1 as at 5.0m if it fails he's easily benchable GW2 (but I'm currently looking at a BB GW1).
      3) It's Pepe!
      4) I can see the attraction but I am considering Saka as a GW2 captain so I'm keeping for now.

      1) Bit risky. Both potentially very good, but might take some time for revamped Liverpool attack to settle, positions and personnel to firm up, and see who gets the points. Other than Salah.
      2) Opposition defences
      3) Safe a time as any
      4) A 6.0 DEF is definitely a good idea. But a different 4.5 DEF would be an upgrade on VDV.

2 x playing 4.5m striker is optimistic in any season. That said I'm not sure you get much better odds at 5.0m. 5.5m starts to look rosier in terms of some minutes.

It's only been one sleep since I was reading the artical on Hato with interest but thinking it doesn't really matter to me as I'm happy with Colwill but now I'm read Colwill is out for most of the season. Back to the drawing board then. Simple swap to Chalobah is the safe move or are we looking at a likely 4.5m Chelsea def in Badiashile being safe now?

      Interesting Dias pick.

Don't understand the Pedro hype. No penalties now and competition from both Delap & Jackson.

I like that it’s a bit different. Malen I think could be a good pick, Doku is I think a bit too much of a gamble and minutes risk - would prefer Kudus or Rice.

Personally I’m also not convinced by Pedro and prefer Wood at that price, but Pedro obviously popular too

Are you expecting Guiu to start? Also on a GW1 BB plan and will likely get Guiu in soon (wc after gw3 being a strong possibility) but not too sure of a gw1 start?

    4. Axelron
      • 7 Years

      Thanks for the comments,

I think Pedro is a good option, looks like Jackson is on his way out and I expect Pedro to start. I think Delap will get his half an hour or so from sub.

Not really fancy either Kudus or Rice even though Kudus could be great a value. Doku looked good in WC and I would want one from City, he's the biggest gamble in the team IMO.

I'm not sure about Guiu start but I see him as a long term option, I want to avoid wildcard GW2 so if Guiu only gets the cameo it's fine.

This means Guiu is nailed? Might just start him every week then, and downgrade Ndiaye to bench fodder. That's 2m for upgrades in my starting XI. Or 2.5m if I downgrade Rogers as I have Watkins...

I think VDV is worth the punt at 4.5. I've got him myself as part of a rotation. The Bayern result is an alarm bell, naturally, but with Palhinha I genuinely think they'll get it right at the back.

I think it'll be Romero who really prospers eventually, though.

I am a massive Palhinha fan, though.

Malen is a risk after AVL signed a new RW, and Gyokeres is unproven with hardly any pre-season.

Better off with Watkins + 5.5m to begin with I think.

Yeah,I'm considering this...I had Reijnders in place of Malen but it's Pep roulette...

    Morning

Re the Guiu transfer, is he likely to be Sunderland's starting forward? (I'm not all that clued up on the promoted teams - apologies)

    Thanks

Mayenda will start for them. He is their player, still just 20 himself. Started all 3 play off games. My Sunderland "associates" say that he is one of their only players who can step up to EPL.

They will want to develop their own player (and possibly add to his value) rather than a Chelsea loanee.

    Salah Gakpo Palmer Malen
    Mateta

    Subs: Dubravka, Arias, Thiago, Guiu

Way too much spend in defence for me, especially considering the top teams have some of the worst early fixtures.

There's some great value in the 4.5 - 5.0m range, (maybe even the 4.0's given DC points).

I don't mind it, but it feels a bit punty.

Personally, I'm fairly set on a GW16 BB.

    Thoughts, gents/ladies?

    Sels
    Cucurella Neco VDV
    Saka Palmer Wirtz Gakpo Johnson
    Watkins Strand-Larsen

    Dubravka Munoz Evanilson Esteve

Cheeky Watkins captain on the cards based on Watkins form in pre-season and Newcastle's woes.

    VVD - Neco - AWB

    Gyokeres - Strand Larsen

(Dubravka - De Cuyper - Guiu - Reinildo)

How does this look guys? Would appreciate some feedback. Cheers

    Arne Slot on Frimpong:

“We definitely thought about AFCON. It's partly why we brought in Frimpong because he can play as a right-winger. A maximum six games without Mo, but that's a lot in the Premier League. Jeremie can play there but he isn't the only option.”
