LEWIS SAID…

Goalkeepers

In goal, Grant Smith (G), Craig MacGillivray (G) and Josh Keeley (G) all have great fixtures against low-scoring opposition. I expect at least one shutout for all three.

Defenders

Mickey Demetriou (D) remains in my side after his 11-point haul last time out, with a great home fixture to start. Jack Whatmough (D) impressed me and looked nailed for minutes by Lee Grant’s side. Elsewhere, Chey Dunkley (D) has made 25 clearances alone in two games, and his two matches in store against sides struggling for goals.

Midfielders

Davis Keillor-Dunn (M) continues to be a “set and forget” asset, providing the goods once again last time out to score 12 points. Jaze Kabia (M) is another asset featuring up-front, and has two goals in two games for Grimsby. Idris El Mizouni (M) of Leyton Orient scored 13 points last game, thanks to five interceptions. His tough upcoming schedule should provide more opportunities for him to score points in this metric alone.

Forwards

Josh March (F) has three assists in two games for Crewe and continues to shine in their attack. Elsewhere, Michael Cheek (F) opened his goalscoring account last Gameweek, and I expect this is the start of another good season for him. Finally, he didn’t score in Gameweek 2, but Alfie May (F) will always be an option for Huddersfield. Particularly against Blackpool (A), who look defensively vulnerable.

Double Gameweek 3 Scout Squad: Club picks

Grimsby and Huddersfield have both impressed me, and have at least one standout fixture: Newport (H) and Blackpool (A) between them. If I opt out, MK Dons, who, like Huddersfield, are yet to concede, have two strong fixtures. Finally, I could punt on Salford City, who face opposition tipped to be near the relegation zone come Gameweek 40.

FPLREACTIONS SAID…

Goalkeepers

Luton have managed back-to-back clean sheets, so Josh Keeley (G) should be a great pick. I would also expect Cardiff to keep at least one clean sheet this week, so Nathan Trott (G) makes the cut. MK Dons’ Craig MacGillivray (G) is another good option considering his fixtures.

Defenders

Carl Piergianni (D) has produced 29 clearances in his first two matches, which makes him an easy pick with two good fixtures for Stevenage. Crewe’s Mickey Demetriou (D) has continued his excellent form from 2024-25, so in a Double Gameweek, I expect him to excel. I also really like Jack Sanders (D). MK Dons should keep at least one clean sheet this week, and Sanders also offers defensive contribution points potential.

Midfielders

Back-to-back goals makes picking Davis Keillor-Dunn (M) of Barnsley a very simple decision. Regardless of fixtures, he’s probably one of the best fixtures in the game currently. I could say similar for Jaze Kabia (M) of Grimsby after back-to-back nine-point returns. I also think Charlie Webster (M) could have success. Burton may not be consistent, but they have started the season offensively strong, and Webster has been vital in that.

Forwards

I can’t discount Crewe’s Josh March (F), given his form heading into the round. March has been sensational for them both during pre-season and in the early stages of the campaign, so regardless of fixtures, he makes my thinking. I think Huddersfield will win both of their games this week, and with Alfie May (F) leading the line, I think he’ll benefit from that. I really like Stevenage’s Jamie Reid (F) too.

Double Gameweek 3 Scout Squad: Club picks

Team Picks are less convincing this week, but Huddersfield’s early form and two good fixtures makes them a standout. MK Dons face two sides who have lost their first two matches, so I think they could have success too, along with Cardiff and Salford.

DANNY G SAID…

Goalkeepers

Josh Keeley (G) has started the season very strongly keeping two clean cheets in as many games, he has nice fixtures this week so I expect him to do well. Zach Hemming (G) looks solid currently, also with two clean sheets to his name and I think this double gameweek could see him add to them. Craig MacGillvray (G) also has some decent fixtures this Gameweek, and is proving to be a tricky keeper to beat.

Defenders

Jack Sanders (D) has caught my eye scoring two 10-pointers in the opening two weeks and can continue that form this Gameweek with two nice matches. Carl Piergianni (D) has been racking up the clearances so far this season – I feel he could score big this week with clean sheets on top. Chey Dunkley (D) provides real goal threat as well as his contributions, and he’s looked solid since starting the season.

Midfielders

Jaze Kabia (M) is a great pick this week, featuring up front for Grimsby and playing teams who leak goals. Rubin Colwill (M) has looked really sharp in the opening games and has a real attacking threat getting in good positions, so he’s in with a shout. Lastly, I really like Kelly N’Mai (M) this week, coming off the back of a goal and has great fixtures which could see him return in.

Forwards

Harry Smith (F) could make my side this week as he faces two promoted teams from the National League and has looked dangerous in his opening games. Jamie Reid (F) has three goals already and is on fire at the moment for stevenage, also on pens which is a bonus. Finally Callum Paterson (F) is my last pick. His confidence is high at the moment coming off the back of a goal and assist last week, and has two nice fixtures this week.

Double Gameweek 3 Scout Squad: Club picks

MK Dons are unbeaten in their first two and play two sides struggling at the moment. Salford have seemingly found their feet and can build on their result last week. Huddersfield have scored five goals, keeping two clean sheets across both their opening two games and look very strong. My final pick, I could well take a punt on Tranmere. I think they’re dark horses this season and have two winnable games this week.

DAN DAVE SAID…

Goalkeepers

My first goalkeeper pick is Josh Keeley (G). Two clean sheets from two so far for Luton, facing sides who lack attacking threat, so it seems like a good double for Luton’s defensive assets. Next, MK Dons – the pre-season title favourites – have two more nice fixtures in this Double with two sides who are yet to pick up a point and neither have looked threatening in attack. Therefore, Craig MacGillivray (G) is in. My last keeper is Filip Marschall (G).

Defenders

Carl Piergianni (D) has it all; attacking threat, defensive actions and a clean sheet potential this week. He could well be my captain again. Jack Sanders (D) already has 23 clearances and two shutouts to start the season, he looks like a solid pick. Salford have two nice fixtures this Gameweek and Adebola Oluwo (D) has already picked up 16 points in two matches without a clean sheet!

Midfielders

Davis Keillor-Dunn (M) has two goals so far with many routes to points – he’s always a pick to consider. Jaze Kabia (M) is playing as a forward for Grimsby and he is on penalties too. Stockport have started the season strong and have two decent fixtures this Gameweek. Oliver Norwood (M) has so many routes to points so he feels like a safe pick this week.

Forwards

Jamie Reid (F) has already managed to score three goals in the opening two games, and Stevenage have two nice fixtures to come. Huddersfield have impressed me offensively, and face good opposition from an attacking point of view. Alfie May (F) makes my list. A differential to round off, Callum Paterson (F) walked away with a goal and assist, totalling 11 points last Gameweek. I really like their fixtures; there could be more joy for the talisman this week.

Double Gameweek 3 Scout Squad: Club picks

Huddersfield are in great form, and with a favourable run of fixtures, they’re an excellent choice for a strong attacking performance this week. My next team pick are MK Dons who play two of the poorer sides – neither Huddersfield nor MK Dons are yet to lose or concede. Luton have been solid defensively and still have the quality to win both games, even against Bradford (A). Finally, Stockport County have impressed in their opening two fixtures which looked tricky on paper.

MERLINS SAID…

The first Double Gameweek of the season offers a big opportunity for a breakout, with high variance expected.

Goalkeepers

Josh Keeley (G) looks like the top goalkeeper in League One, Luton are well-organised and pushing for promotion. Nathan Trott (G) faces a struggling Rotherham side likely without key striker Sam Nombe (F). Craig MacGillivray (G) is aiming for his third clean sheet in a row.

Defenders

Reliable defenders are key. Mickey Demetriou (D) faces unsettled Crawley and Fleetwood. Carl Piergianni (D) leads Stevenage, who are chasing a third straight win. Jack Sanders (D) is currently the most solid pick from an ambitious MK Dons side.

Midfielders

Charlie Webster (M) has two goals already and plays in a more attacking role. Jaze Kabia (M) is a striker listed as a midfielder, on penalties, and a guaranteed starter. Oliver Norwood (M) takes all set pieces for an in-form Stockport side.

Forwards

Harry Smith (F) offers a high ceiling and strong presence up front. Alfie May (F) brings experience to a well-balanced Huddersfield side. Josh March (F) has already provided three assists in the first two games.

Double Gameweek 3 Scout Squad: Club picks

This is a good Gameweek to take advantage of matchups where settled, promotion-chasing teams face opponents struggling with injuries, form, or squad changes.
