DOUBLE GAMEWEEK 3 TEAM REVEAL: THE STARTING SEVEN

GOALKEEPER
I’m torn once again about keepers, surprise surprise. However, I’m near set on MK Dons’ Craig MacGillivray (G).
He’s kept consecutive shutouts (+10), scoring 14 points for his efforts. They face Cheltenham Town (H) and Crawley Town (A). Both clubs have one goal between them in two games, and have lost both. It looks like a fantastic matchup for the number one.
DEFENDERS
Mickey Demetriou (D) and a Double Gameweek: the perfect recipe for points. Crewe Alexandra have won back-to-back games, and their captain banked 11 points last time out, thanks to 16 clearances (+4) and a shutout. Facing Crawley (H) and Fleetwood (A), I’m expecting big returns.
Partnering him, Joe Low (D) has been excellent since joining Huddersfield Town in the summer. He scored in their opening game (+7) and has returned 24 points in two matches, yet to concede. Doncaster Rovers (H) won’t be easy, but their first match against Blackpool (A) should be a routine victory.
However, if he’s rotated due to fitness concerns, teammate Jack Whatmough (D) and Chesterfield’s Chey Dunkley (D) are in my thinking.
MIDFIELDERS
Barnsley have argubly the best “midfield” in the division, and for that reason, Davis Keillor-Dunn (M) and Adam Phillips (M) make my side at present.
‘DKD’ wears the armband once again, with two goals (+12) and 23 total points in just two games. He’s a near-lock for me most weeks, and against Bolton Wanderers (H) and Peterborough United (A) – two defensively vulnerable sides, I’m confident the out-of-position striker continues his streak.
However, picking Phillips feels bold but solid. The number eight has three goal contributions (+12) in two, returning 22 points. With routes to points at both ends, picking the Tykes’ double feels like a cheat code this Gameweek. With just 2% ownership he’s a top differential.
Speaking of ‘OOP’ assets, Grimsby Town’s Jaze Kabia (M) is also leading the line for the Mariners, and has two goals in two, returning 18 points. They’ve scored three goals in consecutive matches, and their fixture against Newport County (H) feels promising. I’m in no doubts however it’ll be a tighter affair away at Walsall.
FORWARD
Up top, completing the Crewe double-up, Josh March (F) is yet to score, but has three assists in two, returning 17 points. He’s continued his spectaular pre-season form, and is a magnet for key passes and shots on target.
DOUBLE GAMEWEEK 3 TEAM REVEAL: CLUB PICKS
Referring to our Fixture Ticker, I’m sticking with my strategy of backing the “top picks” early on, given how many slots are actually available.
Nonetheless, these picks could undoubtedbly change as the deadline nears, and lineups are released.
Barnsley are off to a brilliant start under Conor Hourihane. While I’m not yet convinced by their defence, their strategy of “outscoring the opponent” seems to be working. I expect them to secure wins against both Bolton and Peterborough, especially with a strong away performance against what seems to be a disjointed Posh side.
Life has been equally rosy for Lee Grant at Huddersfield. They’ve picked up 20 points, more than any other team, scoring five goals and not conceding any. Blackpool have let in seven goals in two games, so I expect Huddersfield to get a win there. While Donny (H) will be a tougher test at home, I still anticipate the Terriers will come out on top in a tight match.
I also think Stockport County against Leyton Orient (A) and Bradford (H) are worth a mention, alongside Chesterfield.
We could be looking at two big scores here and some mini-league swings.
