With Gameweek 2 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) nearing, our pundits are starting to finalise their teams ahead of Friday’s deadline.

FPL General – who has three top 500 finishes to his name – is fully committed to going without Mohamed Salah (£14.5m) and Erling Haaland (£14.0m) this season. He shares his Gameweek 2 team thoughts here…

General no Salah Haaland

It was so good to have the Premier League back on television last weekend. I can’t wait for more of it in Gameweek 2!

With it, of course, comes the wonderful game of FPL. I’ve been playing it since its inception way back in 2002/03, as a 12-year-old. I really should retire soon!

Going into this season without Mohamed Salah (£14.5m) and Erling Haaland (£14.0m) has given me the renewed enthusiasm for the game that I was looking for. Despite both players getting attacking returns (Salah owners were very lucky!), and my captain, Cole Palmer (£10.5m), blanking (yet again), I really enjoyed following the action over the weekend and the reactions of FPL managers to every kick of the ball on social media. It’s such a great form of escapism when played with the right mentality. Hopefully, the big two have a quieter weekend this time around.

    Which one seems like the better pick here? Getting rid of AWB.

    C) Reinildo
    D) Dorgu

    This is going to be a short term pick, so I'm leaning towards either of the Sunderland guys considering their fixtures.

    VDV is playing City
    Gudmundson is playing Arsenal

    So I have only 2 defenders with decent fixtures starting. So thinking of a short term fix (2/3 GWs) with either of these options.

      The clean sheet odds are pretty low this week aside from Arsenal so there's no guarantee that whoever you bring in will do any better than what you have. Personally I would just take the hit and use the extra FT next week

            Hmm, at least if it goes wrong Id rather have Gordon in the long run then Rogers, talisman and pens. Have a feeling Rogers might not fire til Emery gets their lineup and tactics sorted

              Didn't Rogers have like 3 or 4 GI in preseason?

              They were going fine until Emery went all defensive at home to Newcastle with a double pivot and pushed Tielemans into the 10. Something tells me he won't be so conservative this time out, Rogers will play centrally and they will drop Tielemans into the 8.

                  Absolutely he was set on not losing. Bizarre given you guys have been phenomenal at home for a while now. I would think he will change it with immediate effect.

                  The Konsa send off oozed a team giving their opposition too much respect. Emery is too smart to let that happen again I think - as long as he admits his mistake, I think Villa fly this week.

                He has to change, my concern is that when he was scoring in preseason they had Malen, Buendia, Ramsey and Bailey getting starts, theyv sold 2 of those and now they start 4 holding mids at home haha

      For Leeds Gudmundsson is nailed on, as is Rondon (I played both as a BB roll of the dice last week) and they returned.

      Not playing either against Arsenal but Leeds look solid and I think there’s starting value there in some games with Gudmunsson almost getting def con and the possibility of attacking returns.

      Watkins, Brentford look like they won’t be able to defend. Same could be said for West Ham but you can bank on Chelsea not being free scoring the way they play, Palmer is question for ownership nevermind captain just now. Bruno (c) next week.

      FH in first half of the season you are looking at a one off GW where you current squad may be a bit flakey but good alternative fixtures available. Some talking up GW4 or GW6.

    Contrary to all the teams I've seen the 'experts' on youtube suggesting - I'm playing Reinildo over Munoz.

    2 reasons. I have wood, he's surely gona score. B. No way will palace keep a CS, and on a sidenote - NF defence will conced again. NF defensive contributions (and humungous ownership) continue baffle me.

    How the General plays this game with no Mo or Erling I don't know. I find going with just the one is sometimes nerve-wracking, but both?

    Don't really get the Saka captain hype around here. Yes, Leeds is a promoted site. But they were way better then Everton, and gave almost no chances away. Saka possibly lost pens and is not in a great FPL form. With Haaland and Salah you know what you can expect, even if they don't haul the loss is minor, because a lot of people will captain them. To early for chasing the upside with Saka (or Palmer) for me, but depends on the kind of player you are I reckon?

      Just depends. On a free transfer/WC, might be worth it. His ownership is low and just depends on other captain choices for the GW. Agreed, Leeds looked good but that was against Everton.
