An intriguing clash at the Etihad gets the day’s Premier League football underway.

Manchester City v Tottenham Hotspur is Saturday’s 12.30pm BST kick-off, with this fixture being another stern test of the early progress that the visitors have made under Thomas Frank.

The Lilywhites performed admirably in their last encounter against elite opposition, running Paris Saint-Germain mightily close in the UEFA Super Cup. They had been thumped by Bayern Munich a week earlier, however.

Frank, interestingly, doesn’t go with the ‘five at the back’ set-up he used against PSG.

Many, including ourselves, thought Kevin Danso would come in for this fixture, with Brennan Johnson making way. Johnson, however, keeps his place in what looks like a 4-2-3-1/4-3-3.

The two alterations he has made were expected, at least: Joao Palhinha and Rodrigo Bentancur are back after their Gameweek 1 breathers to replace Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall in midfield.

Richarlison again leads the line, with Dominic Solanke warming the bench.

Pep Guardiola has also made two changes and, like Frank, has gone more attacking than perhaps anticipated.

Rayan Cherki gets his first Premier League start since his summer move, with Omar Marmoush also coming in.

Jeremy Doku and Bernardo Silva drop to the bench.

Tijjani Reijnders may be slightly more curbed than last week, then, but with Rico Lewis inverting into central midfield from right-back, the Dutchman may still get the odd chance to creep forward.

Ederson is back in the squad after missing the win over Wolverhampton Wanderers through illness. He has to settle for a place on the bench, however, as James Trafford starts in goal again.

LINE-UPS

Manchester City XI: Trafford, Lewis, Stones, Dias, Ait-Nouri, Gonzalez, Reijnders, Cherki, Bobb, Marmoush, Haaland.

Subs: Ederson, Ake, Doku, Rodri, Bernardo, Nunes, O’Reilly, Khusanov, Foden.

Tottenham Hotspur XI: Vicario, Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Spence, Sarr, Bentancur, Palhinha, Kudus, Johnson, Richarlison.

Subs: Kinsky, Danso, Vuskovic, Davies, Gray, Bergvall, Odobert, Tel, Solanke.

Definetly feels like i have chucked my season away. I was way off on the need of early wildcard. I WC to get Haaland (c) and sold richardilson, Porro, .... and kept Ait Nouri last minute.

Another one of the terrible decisions book.

Unless Haaland gets a brace second half i think il spend my time on other activities this year, lol.

I made a week 1 team with only 1 6.5 mil forward and two dead 4.5 mil forwards with the idea the forwards wouldnt be worth it this year.

When i saw how good City were week 1 i made the early (wrong decision) they were back and felt it was the time to get him.

So this was my non Wildcard team, with the initial -4 (ballad and saka in for frimpong and wirtz last Sunday), but later felt the WC was gona be more worth it if Haaland got a brace :

        Sels
        Esteve Ait-Nouri Porro Ballard
        Salah bruno reindeer saka (c)
        Richardilson
        dub, Palmer, 4,5 4,5

There was a world i thought where City spanked spurs and that team got about 30 points.

Lets see, i made a similar mistake in 22-23 (Darwin in for Jesus week 2 as part of a terrible WC) and was at 7million after 6-7 weeks

The the break for the Queens funeral saw me properly adjust that year (took a -16 that week to fix things) and finished 6k in the end. I would have been top 500 i worked out if i didnt WC week 2.

Palmer (c) in a game in which he would have most likely hauled - injured.
    Air Nouri - injured.

It’s only been a week of fantasy football, is this really what I’ve been waiting for whole summer?

Haaland's price was based on being a striker in a dominating City team that had KDB, Foden in best form of his life etc. Now theres Marmoush, Bobb, Cherki, Doku, trash Foden, no KDB.

Hes a great player but theres very little chance that he will justify his price in this team.
