Winner takes Alexander Isak?

The Swede will be watching his potential future employers take on his current ones in the final match of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Gameweek 2 tonight.

Newcastle United v Liverpool gets underway at St James’ Park at 20:00 BST.

TEAM NEWS

While the off-the-field events are very chaotic, the Magpies’ team news is routine.

In fact, Eddie Howe has named an unchanged side from the 0-0 draw with Aston Villa nine days ago.

Anthony Gordon will be leading the line for the hosts again.

New signing Jacob Ramsey is in the squad for the first time, joining fellow summer recruits Malick Thiaw and Aaron Ramsdale among the substitutes.

Arne Slot is forced into two alterations this evening.

Jeremie Frimpong misses out with a hamstring injury, while Alexis Mac Allister is attending the birth of his child.

Curtis Jones and Ryan Gravenberch, the latter of whom is back from suspension, come into Slot’s starting XI.

With Frimpong sidelined and Joe Gomez and Conor Bradley only fit enough for substitute duty, the Liverpool boss has confirmed that Dominik Szoboszlai will start at right-back tonight.

New boy Giovanni Leoni takes his place among the substitutes.

LINE-UPS

Newcastle United XI: Pope, Trippier, Schar, Burn, Livramento, Joelinton, Tonali, Guimaraes, Elanga, Gordon, Barnes.

Subs: Ramsdale, Hall, Botman, Thiaw, Osula, Murphy, Willock, Ramsey, Miley.

Liverpool XI: Alisson, Szoboszlai, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez, Jones, Gravenberch, Salah, Wirtz, Gakpo, Ekitike.

Subs: Mamardashvili, Gomez, Bradley, Endo, Chiesa, Leoni, Elliott, Robertson, Ngumoha.

Apparently that was a dream. I thought they were protected when red flagged but not the case (found out when Frimpong dropped).

No need to WC that this week. Most of your players have good fixtures. I would keep the faith one more week. Obviously keep an eye on Palmer news

As tempting as it may be, hold that WC atleast one more week. IB will be a perfect time to reassess and play the WC. Don’t get swayed by price changes.

Planning to WC and play Joào Pedro FUL (H) and transfer to Ekitikè for GW4 but have just enough funds to do it atm.

Will Ekitikè rise again until GW3 starts, or should I just bring him in on a WC and miss out on Joào Pedro's Fulham-fixture?

Logic would say that even if Palmer is fit he won’t be in the gw3 squad. I could be wrong of course but if he has been carrying niggles for a several weeks, why play him just before the IB where he is going to get called up and have no rest and the team is firing fine without him. Assuming it will be a classic IB injury if not something serious. I own him too, it will be interesting to see what’s said.

Moreover, Chelsea scored 5 without him. No need at all to rush this one.

Admittedly, Kali has primarily played CF, but he has slotted in at both LW and RW before.

McAtee can play deeper, true, but he's spent time at RW.

Hutchinson is a threat at RW and LW.

Exactly. They have just bought a load of attackers who can all play wide. I don't know enough about forest to be sure ndoye isn't a minutes risk quite quickly....

I might do 2 of palmer wirtz and georginio ro 2 of sarr semenyo and kudus....

      Nice captain btw

Was a bit risky keeping RAN but i hope he‘s fit for GW4 after the IB, as he‘s a great asset. I did these last night due to price rises, and successfully added 0.3m to my team value:

        Wirtz —> Sarr
        Bowen —> Wood

I think both of them have been unconvincing, especially bowen in such a poor team. Both of them went down last night so i did then. I wanted to be exciting with my transfers as i had 2. If i do poorly, I will just WC. Was hoping to save for GW8/9 though

After gw3. It’s is handy to build value if you foresee double risers after gw3 but I wouldn’t plan to wildcard just because of that. If you’re set on losing Salah, you can without wildcarding to literally anyone and rebuild with FT’s

Current WC team, 3.1m in the bank.. any obvious changes? Conscious I want Ekitike but not sure I want him in for so may book that transfer in. Ndoye would become someone like Eze with extra funds potentially.

    Sels
    Cucu - Porro - Dorgu
    Ndoye - Kudus - Gakpo - Cunha
Haaland - Joao Pedro - Wood

    Dubravka - Lacroix - Reijnders - Esteve

Upgrade Ndoye and Kudus? Gakpo’s minutes if Isak signs…?

I like Ndoye and think he's worth keeping, same with Kudus.. I don't think Isak will sign personally, but if he does I'll cross that when I come to it.

Palmer and Fulkrug > Kudus and Wood (2FT)

Any reason not to do this? Leaves a lot in the bank, but both Kudus and Wood seem good value.

I did Palmer & Fullkrug > Gakpo & Richarlison earlier - just an FYI

But Kudus & Wood were also in my picks too

        Thanks

Gakpo and Richarlison seems higher risk (and higher reward)

Kudus and Wood are pretty central to their respective teams and I think are good longterm transfers and good value

On FH, pick 2 to play:

    A) Grealish vs wol
    B) Gakpo vs ARS (due to form)
    C) Johnson/Kudus vs BOU
    D) Mbeumo vs BUR (double with Bruno)

Other mids are Bruno and I.Sarr

    Considering a FH

What is the best tactical approach, keep players like Gakpo and Ekitike for their form despite the tricky fixture?

I have a few nice looking Differential picks in mind, particularly for the midfield.

I think Liverpool will probably score one against Arsenal. I think they might also score 0 or 2.

Whether you want to double-Pool for that I don't know. I have Gakpo/Eki/Salah, and I'm planning to play all three, but I'm not on a FH.

True, went from 4m to 1.4m settled on 3m - stung by Palmer C with Watkins VC, had it on JP 🙁

Most non-casuals have had a bad start. Have a look at the Elite 64 league (linked below). These are top FPL players who regularly get good ranks. Only the top 4 have an OR inside 2m. I find it funny and shows how much luck is involved in this game:

im curious but what would you describe as a 'casual'? what is that they do that non casuals dont?if you dont have a chip strategy are you a casual? its a term that gets bandied around anytime people who think they are entitled to hauls dont get them

There are no casuals, the game is pure luck - end of!

Look at number 1, did anyone mention three Burnley mids or Timber TC did they F

He made his choices & spanked everyone 😎

People who spend only a little time a week on FPL - usually less than half an hour a week.

People like my gf who took Ait-Nouri out for Timber this week cos she "just felt like it"

I think your logic here is a bit funny. You look at the top FPL players who are now doing poorly and conclude that it shows how much luck is involved. But if it's (largely) a game of luck, what's the point of looking at the top FPL players because they are then by definition just people who have been more lucky in the past and are now less lucky?

No offense or anything, I'm a bit bored and this stood out to me! And I know you didn't actually quantify the amount of luck that it requires in your statement!

These players had a bigger skill advantage many years ago, when they pulled in good ORs. As the game has grown they are now more reliant on luck and less likely to get good ORs. This was explored by Marc Rubinstein 6 years ago and the tilt towards luck is even greater now:

    2. Mbeumo or Cuhna (double up with Bruno)

    Saka replacement.

      1. It depends on possible new reqruitments, I would make the call as late as possible
      2. Cunha looked more dangerous vs Fulham, should have scored. I assume, that Bruno keeps pens.

    Cap JP or Haaland

    Play Gudmund or Hartman?

    Sels,
    Cucu, Porro, Gudmund,
Salah, Semenyo, Kudus, Reijnders, I Sarr
    Pedro, Haaland

    Dubs, Hartman, Diouf, Guiu,

    1m

I'd probably C Haaland and just accept that he might score five goals or just blank.
