CHECK OUT RSL FANTASY (SAUDI PRO LEAGUE)
Al Taawoun
Last season’s eighth-placed side scored 40 and conceded 39 goals. Also among the top four defensive teams with 11 clean sheets, Al Taawoun has been one of the last two seasons’ best backlines.
So far they’ve been relatively limited in the transfer activity, making no big-name foreign signings while being expected to lose Saad Al Nasser (5.0m) to Al Nassr (of no relation). At least they’ve added Mohammed Al Aqel (4.5m) and Mohammed Mahzari (4.5m), though.
Although both pre-season matches have ended in 2-1 defeats – to Olympiacos and Al Kholood – fixtures after the Al Nassr opener look promising. They’ll be against Al Akhdoud, Al Ettifaq, Al Khaleej, Damak and Al Fayha.
Being 2024/25’s fourth-best side for clean sheets, their defensive options stand out as promising picks. Andrei Girotto (5.0m) has excellent passing and defensive stats, averaging two tackles and 3.1 ball recoveries per match. Meanwhile, Waleed Al Ahmed (5.0m) is strong at set pieces, averaging around five defensive contributions per match. He netted twice last season.
Further up, Musa Barrow (7.0m) was their top midfield scorer, scoring 13 times in 29 matches, whilst Roger Martinez (6.5m) could be an interesting differential. The attacker delivered three goals and an assist during last season’s final three outings, also notching versus Olympiacos.
Al Kholood
When picked up by the US-based Harberg group (which also owns a minority stake in Spanish side Cadiz), Al Kholood became the league’s first foreign-owned club this summer.
They came ninth in 2024/25, scoring 42 and conceding 64. They were strong at home, letting in only 27 goals, but struggled away, ranking 15th.
They’ve strengthened the squad a little bit. Juan Kutsani was the third-best goalkeeper for clean sheets in the Argentine league, and Abdulrahman Al Dosari, Ramzi Solan (5.0m) and Hattan Bahebri (4.5m) have all joined, whilst Jackson Molica is the only notable departure.
Pre-season data isn’t the easiest to come by, but it appears as though they’ve had a successful mini campaign in Turkey, winning 3-0 against Fethiyespor and 2-0 over JS Kabylie, plus a 2-1 victory over league rivals Al Taawoun. Despite this, they face a daunting start to this SPL campaign with three away games in the first four, versus Al Ettifaq, Al Nassr and Al Shabab.
In terms of favoured picks, we’d suggest defender Norbert Gyömber (4.5m) for his strong passing, and an average of five defensive contributions per match and Myziane Maolida (7.0m) for his 15 goals in 33 matches. He’s their penalty taker. Budget forward Majed Khalifah (4.5m) is likely a starter in a 3-5-2 formation.
Al Fateh
Last season’s 10th-placed team scored 47 and conceded 61. However, the arrival of coach Jose Gomes saw the team improve significantly, moving from last place at Round 20 to a reputable mid-table finish.
Maintaining this in 2025/26 could be tricky, considering the transfer window has seen a large number of players depart, with only impending signing Fahad Al Zubaidi (4.5m) coming the other way.
Well beaten by Atletico Madrid’s B team in pre-season, it’s also a challenging schedule after the opener against Al Fayha. They face Al Ittihad, Al Qadsiah and Al Nassr in the first five rounds.
Nevertheless, there are three names worth considering as Fantasy picks, all from the midfield.
Mourad Batna (7.5m) secured 199 points last season thanks to being strong on set pieces and penalties. 12-goal Sofiane Bendebka (7.0m) was slightly behind on 191, while Matias Vargas (7.5m) added 125 points via 11 goal contributions in the last 20 matches. He’s been reclassified as a midfielder.
Al Riyadh
Having finished well in the bottom half – 11th place – Al Riyadh’s assets may not be screaming out at you, but it should be noted they did keep eight clean sheets and conceded just 52 times, offering defensive stability at a discount price.
They’ve lost Bernard Mensah to Al Nasr (UAE) and loaned out Suwailem Al Manhali and Fahad Al Jayzani, signing Mamadou Sylla, Teddy Okou (5.0m), Ismaila Soro and YouTuber Ryan Osmez in return.
Another team with some challenging early matches – Al Hilal, Al Nassr and Neom in the opening four rounds – Al Riyadh have nevertheless had plenty of warm-up time. Eight friendlies, including four draws, four losses and seven goals.
Their top picks include Milan Borjan (4.5m), who was second best for saves last season and earned an impressive 173 points, budget defender Osama Al Bawardi (4.0m) – who started most friendlies – midfielder Tozé (6.0m), someone strong on set-pieces who contributed to 10 goals and 10 big chances, plus forward Bayesh (6.0m).
Other options include new signings Teddy Okou (5.0m), who’s marked as a budget midfield option in the game, but has played up front in friendlies, as well as forward Mamadou Sylla, should he complete his expected signing from Valladolid.
