There’s not a Liverpool or Arsenal player in sight in the Scout Picks for Gameweek 3 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

We considered the Scout Squad submissions made by Neale (Editor), Tom (Deputy Editor), Sam (General Manager) and Marc (Staff Writer) before coming up with our final team.

As ever, there are certain restrictions for our picks:

  • An £83.0m budget for our starting XI
  • An overall squad limit of £100.0m
  • No more than three players per team

GAMEWEEK 3 SCOUT PICKS

GOALKEEPER

Robert Sanchez (£5.0m) gets the nod between the sticks ahead of Chelsea’s home match against Fulham on Saturday. The Spaniard has conceded just once in his two matches so far (an effort from 25+ yards, to boot), and given that Marco Silva’s side haven’t really impressed from an attacking perspective this season, a home clean sheet could well be on the cards.

FPL pre-season: Sub Solanke but strong Spurs display

On WC this week and BB next week. I have cash for Wood to Ekitike or Isak
Any obvious mistakes here apart from spreading the cash and no Salah?

    Vicario

    Cucurella Burn Porro

    Gapko Barnes Sarr Caicedo

    Pedro Haaland Wood (C)

    Dub Reijnders VVV Lacroix

Vvv is Virgil. Sorry that could get confusing.

No. Team looks good to me.

I assume that's Crystal Palace's Sarr? Not sure I would get Spur's Sarr.

Not sure what VVV means? Is that VdV or VVD? If it's either of those 2 then your defence is going to be a benching pain in the a** every week

Looks solid if you are comfortable with this strategy. I’d consider taking some cash out of Caicedo (Stach maybe) and switching some defs to defcon magnet defenders and starting with some free cash as we are still making decisions with a very limited amount of info and things could change fast. But yeah good team and good call on Haaland, if I were on WC I would defo have him in there too.

Caicedo is a bigger DC magnet than anyone else on that team. 455 DC last season. I'd say he's absolutely worth 0.5 more than Stach.

I hear ya but with a solid defence too imo this leaves too many points and too much value on the bench, especially with Arsenal and city fixtures from gw 7 and 6 respectively I would prefer more money itb than a slightly better mid who I would possibly bench quite often anyway, at least imo

Agreed, I already mentioned his defense is a huge pain to bench every week. Reijnders, VVD and Lacroix on the bench? ouch.

But I still wouldn't do Caicedo -> Stach. That's just a decent player to a bad one. Caicedo is almost a perfect 5th midfielder to bench because he'll probably get 4-5 almost guaranteed each week with DC. That's exactly the player you want 1st bench.

I would probably downgrade 1 or 2 of those defenders though and either bank the money or put the spare elsewhere. I have spare money on my team but I on purpose went a little cheaper in my defense to make benching easy. I went Tarkowski, Murillo, Cucurella, VdV and Rodon. In fact, Reijnders is my 5th midfielder to be benched most weeks and I'm not feeling great about that. But this is the problem when there's a bunch of cheaper options that are doing well.

Good points, given you an upvote mate. Caicedo is on my watchlist now but still not sure if someone like Damsgaard isn’t a significant step up again for just .4 more but yeah, defo one to keep an eye on!

              1. SalahFingers
                • 8 Years
                10 months, 22 days ago

Well we'll see at the end of the season if DC beats out those more attacking players.

He averaged 11.97 DC per game last season, so that's gotta be worth at least 30 out of 38 games with an extra 2 points? That's 60 points. Compare that to an attacking players upside.

Damsgaard is pretty solid for attacking returns AND his DC is not bad either.

It's hard to bench a player like reijnders or damsgaard though, and it's not hard to bench Caicedo every week.

That's kind of why he's just a handy 5th mid, but it really depends how you want to build your team. Caicedo blocks you from having Sanchez, Cucu, and Pedro since it's another Chelsea.

Yeah some points he raise are important it is VVD and Palace Sarr. Palace guys probably on get 3,4 and 5. Then they go prior to pool. Hopefully downgrade for cash spread then but yeah a few weeks of headaches. I can possibly FH 7 when Che and Liv clash.

Trying to get a mix on the DC. I would say VVD, Burn, Lacroix and Caicedo are the DC monsters - at least I hope they are and then throw in the attacking of Porro and Cucurella

        1. SalahFingers
          • 8 Years

Honestly though. With that defense, you could easily go 5 defense every week.

But then you have a different benching headache in your mid or attack. 😀

Well hopefully a massive bench headache each week means when I go for BB it pays off and I don’t make bad calls in the subsequent 2-3 weeks. This looks so much better than the BBs activated in GW1 or 2 but who knows. One major disadvantage of WC this week is lack of info I really wanted to go wood to Ekitike next week but if Isak comes in … that could also mess up Gapko if Ekitike goes out left and the whole plan goes up in flames. Hopefully Isak doesnt start GW4 even if signed in the next few days. The only way to preserve my sanity in the end was to leave enough cash for Isak 🙂

Don't make the mistake of waiting too long before you BB. There'll always be an injury or two that pop up if you try to wait too long for the perfect moment.

    Anybody gonna capt newcastle players?

    1. SalahFingers
      • 8 Years

Nope. They looked strong against Liverpool, but with Gordon out, who knows what way they'll shuffle people around. My guess is Elanga will do well, but Barnes could either. I wouldn't captain them over Haaland, Pedro or Wood this week, not even close.

    Captain Cunha?

    1. SalahFingers

I wouldn't. Man Utd haven't scored a single goal by themself yet.

and if they do.. it'll be one of Cunha, Bruno or Mbeumo, so I wouldn't trust that it'd be Cunha getting the points (if any).

    currently:
    Sels
    Porro, N. Williams, Cucu
    Gakpo, Wirtz, Semenyo, Reijnders, Ndiaye
    Haaland (c), Watkins (v)
    subs: Dubravka; Guiu, Diouf, Rodon

should I do Guiu --> Pedro or Wood? and if so, who to bench this GW?

    1. SalahFingers
      • 8 Years
      10 months, 22 days ago

Guiu -> Pedro or Wood would be great if free.

I'd probably bench Wirtz honestly, but I could see a case for Ndiaye, or Reijnders. Either way, Pedro or Wood is still better than almost anyone else on your team.

    2. Milner4eva
      • 13 Years
      10 months, 22 days ago

Hard one this, I think benching Wirtz and bringing in Wood is a great option as mentioned above if free. But FTs might be very valuable after the break and spending one just to end up benching Wirtz is a big call. Depends on your own style and how hit averse you are down the line. Both good options imo go for whichever feels more fun.

Team looks fine, but I definitely wouldn't captain Ndoye over Salah no matter the fixture. Not a very high ceiling for Ndoye IMO.

For me it'd be either J Pedro or Salah in that case, but I hope it works out for you.

I am nervous about JP as a Chelsea fan and with Caicedo likely out with Palmer. Salah is frustrating, returns at the death in both weeks. West Ham look horrendous.

    Option 1:

    GW4: Reijnders>Sarr

    Option 2:

    GW4: Save FT
    GW5: Reijnders>Rogers & Ait Nouri to Romero

    Option 3:

    GW4: Fernandes>Sarr
    GW5: Guiu>Wood

Not sure how much you can plan in advance really as there’s still quite a lot of uncertainty and lots can happen in intl break… one thing for sure is tho that we will be wanting arsenal players gw7 and city players gw6 so that’s good to keep in back of mind.

Thoughts on this wildcard team? Have £1.5m left over.

    Sels, Dubravka
    Cucurella, Munoz VdV, Esteve, Gudmon
    Salah, Gakpo, Semenyo, Kudus, Reijnders
    Ekitike, Pedro, Wood

Quite similar, see below. I'm doing Wood -> Gyokeres next week.

No red flags there - apart from no obvious path to Haaland. Consider Munoz to Lacroix and Cucu to a 4.5/5 DC magnet to save a bit of money so you’re not as stranded if Haaland starts hauling. Also I own vdv and am looking to sell for a DC magnet.

Second thoughts I guess selling Salah would be the path but yeah, I reckon a few value picks in def opens up the possibility of a Salah / Haaland team which is always good to have open as an option.

Similar to me, though will have either Cunha or Fernandes (rather then Pool triple, so replacing Gakpo).

Have Chalobah rather than Cuc as keeping funds aside to swap in either Palmer and/or Haaland later. So £2.4m itb currently.

Any improvements on WC? Planning Wood -> Gyokeres next week and would have 0.8M spare.

    Sanchez
    Milenkovic, Cucurella, VDV
    Salah, Kudus, Semenyo, Reijnders
    Wood (C), Pedro, Ekitike

    (Dubravka, Anderson, Gabriel, Esteve)

Nice squad. Like myself may need to monitor Ekitike minutes if the Isak transfer goes through. Could potentially do Ekitike to Gyokeres instead.

Probably something like Salah & Ekitike -> Palmer & Haaland. Plenty of good striker options though. I think Cherki may end up a great city option also.

Only if you hold Bruno mid to long term. Not worth it for one week considering the form MUN are in

Seems like a huge risk, Wirtz is still a class player. Who would you be captaining otherwise?

Wood I think mate. I feel Wirtz needs time to adapt to prem.
I am on FH4 WC6 if that make any difference.

Personally in your position I would try and hold - I personally did sell Wirtz this week for those reasons, but I think for a hit its a step too far, especially as it woukd involve taking the armband from Wood to a United player when they aren’t doing too tell at moment. But of course, that being said they could win 4-0 and Fernandes could haul so who knows haha.

Its frustrating but I got rid of Palmer early. Watkins I lost value on but will hold, still think he could come good against Palace who travelled to europe midweek.

I had Watkins who I was keeping. Palmer and Georgino. I knew the latter was falling but thought I'd give it to today as Palmer was on 85% not dropping till today

    2. Fiasco da Gama
      10 months, 22 days ago

Doesn't seem important to me. Keeping Watkins and Palmer for a while so it doesn't matter.

I have to lose Palmer because Georgino dropped. Could have just done him to Dango but priced out now.

There’s plenty 4.5 defs and around 6 mil mids who look like good options this season. And I reckon you’ll get your money back on Watkins soon anyway. Not a big deal imo.

*less than (didn't like the symbol apparently!) 100m now too. But I'm not going to sell a player just because they're dropping if I don't think it's the right move. Plenty of time to get TV going in the right direction again, e.g. when we WC, and later in the season 0.3m is unlikely to make much difference

I’ve been pulling my hair out all week about who to captain.

    A. Salah. Always gets returns.
    B. Joao Pedro. Should have captained him last week.
    C. Chris Wood. Could get a hat trick

If you don’t have a good captain option it’s worth considering. If you do, you could consider a more long term pick like Sarr etc.

Reasoning: we get premium defs becsuse they can score strongly in any fixture. Arsenal have an s tier defence and he carries obvious attacking threat. Man U just lost to Grimsby and Burnley will come to defend. For a free I would get Mbuemo but for a hit I don’t see the point

A)Palmer -> MGW for some cover in Forest attack
    or
    B) Take a hit and also get Fullkrog out for Wood and Palmer for who?
Already have Bruno, Semenyo, Kudos & Rogers.
    Elanga/Barnes?
    Graelish?
    I Sarr?
