Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Fulham was a rollercoaster ride for Joao Pedro (£7.6m) owners.

It was mostly good: a goal, three bonus points and an injury to a potential positional rival.

It wasn’t quite a perfect afternoon, however. In the absence of Cole Palmer (£10.4m), it was Enzo Fernandez (£6.5m), and not Pedro, who stepped up to take Chelsea’s second-half spot-kick.

Here are our Scout Notes from Stamford Bridge.

DELAP INJURY LATEST

Pedro and Liam Delap (£6.4m) have both been playing in the same team in the last two Gameweeks. Longer term, however, and with midweek UEFA Champions League games coming up, the minutes might be more shared between the two up top.

So the sight of Delap clutching his hamstring after a first-half sprint, and subsequently exiting the field, might have bumped Pedro’s xMins a bit.

Enzo Maresca was downbeat on Delap’s injury after full-time.

“Liam’s injury doesn’t look good in terms of, he was full speed, hamstring, so that required, like always, weeks.” – Enzo Maresca on Liam Delap in his post-match presser

“Hopefully, it’s not long but in this kind of case, this kind of injury, I don’t know, it can be six to eight weeks.” – Enzo Maresca on Liam Delap to TNT Sports

Tyrique George (£4.9m) was brought on to play centre-forward after Delap exited, with Pedro staying in the ’10’ role.

“When you have two strikers, it’s enough. When one of them is injured for different weeks, probably it’s not enough. Today we played more than one hour with Tyrique [George], and he did brilliant. The last game he played as a No.9 was Man United at home last year. Again, we try to use a different solution. If you remember last year, we used Pedro [Neto] in some games as a No.9. It’s because we are always looking for a solution, but for sure when you have two proper No.9s, it’s enough.” – Enzo Maresca

JACKSON REDEMPTION ARC?

But might Delap’s injury instead lead to an 11th-hour Chelsea career reprieve for Nicolas Jackson (£6.5m)?

Just when he thought he was out, they pulled him back in. Jackson was set for a move to Bayern Munich, with a deal agreed and the player even conducting his medical on the same day that Delap’s hamstring twanged.

The Blues, however, have hit the ‘abort’ button.

Jackson and his agent may not be too enamoured by this latest development but Bayern seem to have admitted defeat.

Pedro may still have fit competition come Gameweek 4, then.

SIX GOALS IN FIVE – BUT COULD HAVE BEEN SEVEN!

Pedro made it six goals in five competitive starts for the Blues, nodding in Fernandez’s corner. Interestingly, three of the Brazilian’s four attacking returns in 2025/26 have come from set plays.

Pedro was, like most of his Chelsea teammates, sub-par in the first half but improved after the break. He probably should have bagged a second, latching onto an excellent Trevoh Chalobah (£5.0m) pass but seeing the ball taken away from him by Bernd Leno (£5.0m).

And, as mentioned above, he was denied a chance to score from the spot when Enzo was given the nod to deputise for Palmer from 12 yards.

Estevao (£6.5m) was bright again and nearly scored with a low effort that Leno clawed out.

He’ll face more competition soon, however, with the arrival of Alejandro Garnacho (£6.4m). As a result, that will probably see Pedro Neto (£7.0m) feature more on Estevao’s flank rather than on the left.

CHALOBAH EARNS PRAISE

Chalobah was denied an assist when Pedro fluffed his lines but he did bag one for Chelsea’s penalty after his cross was handled.

He registered a joint-game-high three shots, too, and he’s now top of the defender table for goal attempts in 2025/26.

Above: Defenders sorted by shots in 2025/26

Securing a clean sheet, bonus points and DefCon returns, it was a dream afternoon for the centre-half. He is, until Sunday at least, top of the FPL points table among defenders.

We mentioned in pre-season that the right-sided centre-half spot at Chelsea seemed to carry the most DefCon potential. The problem, however, was the unreliability of starts.

And as good as Chalobah has been, Maresca keeps mentioning that he wants to give Wesley Fofana (£4.4m) minutes soon.

“Tosin is doing fantastic from last season. Trevoh, exactly the same since coming back in January. And we have now finally Wes [Fofana] back, that is another one that can help us after the international break.” – Enzo Maresca

Tosin Adarabioyo (£4.5m), who himself bagged DC points and nearly scored, might be the safer centre-half bet at present. Remember, ahead of Gameweek 1, Maresca said Tosin was the only one who could “do [the injured Levi Colwill’s ball-playing centre-half] job well”.

Elsewhere, Moises Caicedo (£5.5m), a DefCon machine in 2024/25, smashed the 12-contribution requirement on Saturday. Amid all the talk of the wingers, Enzo and Caicedo are Chelsea’s leading midfielders in FPL at present.

£4.5M KING DENIED FIRST GOAL

Josh King (£4.5m) made his third successive Premier League start on Saturday.

The budget-friendly midfielder was harshly denied a first Fulham goal when his well-taken finish was ruled out for a supposed foul by Rodrigo Muniz (£5.5m) in the build-up.

The young playmaker, again keeping Emile Smith Rowe (£5.9m) out of the side, burst through to have another shot saved midway through the first half. King nearly had an assist, too, when Timothy Castagne (£4.5m) was denied what looked like a certain goal by a Caicedo block.

“Wow. What a performance from him again. Wow. Personality on the ball and he understood very well all the moments how we should try to exploit some gaps.

“Off the ball, very hard work from him again, and he’s a top talent player and he’s deserving clear the chance.” – Marco Silva on Josh King

There was plenty of encouragement here for the Cottagers ahead of a favourable double-header at Craven Cottage. Aside from the moments involving King, Joachim Andersen (£4.5m) had two decent chances to score. Marco Silva’s side also kept Chelsea at bay for long periods, only really wilting – understandably so after some deflating VAR calls – late in the game.

Really worried about having Semenyo. Will he be all fart and no poo like last season or will this be his big season where he takes the next step?

If you’re really worried then sell him.
Otherwise accept that he’s a good player but comes without goal guarantee promise hence he plays for Bournemouth and is kindly priced.

I hear you. I planned on bringing him for next GW.

All reports suggest he looked very dangerous again, but no returns.

Not sure if I should pursue.

That's my worry. His goal conversion rate was shocking last season. 8.8%.

It needs to be closer to 15% for him to be a good long term pick. Can he almost double it this season? I'm not so sure. Think I've made a mistake here.

When you watch manager press conferences in full, you pick up on so much.

When Grealish signed, Moyes mentioned that he said to Jack look what I did with Lingard at West Ham. It's a similar situation. Think Grealish needs to be my next transfer in so I can ride this wave early.

Same. I think they're a banana skin fixture for any top team. I've had them blood red on my ticker since the start of pre-season. Last season's data was very impressive under Moyes, they were one of the top defences in the league after he came in.

Imagine comparing Grealish to Lingard. Actual talent vs one of the biggest frauds in modern PL history

      1. Moon Dog
        • Fantasy Football Scout Member

He wasn't comparing their ability. He was comparing their situation.

        1. Brosstan
          • 11 Years
          9 months, 11 days ago

Vastly different. Lingard was a mid player at best with an inflated ego who needed a free role that his ability didn't justify. Moyes gave him that and he was a decent FPL asset sure.

Grealish just needs to not be unshackled and told that he's allowed to do what he wants and he will thrive automatically.

One of the biggest tragedies in PL what Pep did with Grealish in his prime years.

That's why his goals should be worth less though as its his job to do that, at least in the main scoring, its the opposite in the bonus curiously. The issue is probably more that he's up against for the most part some of the best attacking talent/points scorers from other clubs who are classed as midfielders in the game so they are getting one up on him for every goal, can get CS points, generally they are more of an assist threat as his is very low, its goals or blanks for robot basically. If others score for City or they clean he's not even a shoe-in on the bonus.

they are worth less - they are worth 1 point less than a mid and 2 less than a defender

      2. Sir Michael Taker
        • 11 Years
        9 months, 11 days ago

He's not worth 14m in the current landscape, you are paying 14m for a Man City pen taker (we assume) who is one of the only guaranteed starters not because he's so much better than the other strikers now. He's obviously the best striker in the league but he's not that much better.

        1. Brosstan
          • 11 Years
          9 months, 11 days ago

The biggest reason he's not worth it is he justified his price playing with a great supporting cast. The team around him now is much worse so there's almost 0 chance he lives up to his price. KDB gone shreds off 2m on his value.

          1. Sir Michael Taker

            9 months, 11 days ago

KDB's got old though I'm not sure him staying as a 34 year old with his physical issues would make that much difference.

Yep, and 1 fewer bonus. Theoretically, a midfielder can match a striker's brace with just 1 goal.

        Striker: 2 goals (8pts) + 60 mins (2pts) + bonus (3pts) = 13pts
        Midfielder: 1 goal (5pts) + 60 mins (2pts) + bonus (3pts) + DefCon (2pts) + CS (1pt) = 13pts

The Man Utd Burnley game, I thought was a great advert for VAR with every decision correct because of it
I know Parker moaned afterwards saying "sterile", but that's because he lost the match and it's his job as a manager to blame something else for that to create distraction

Add Italian, Spanish, German (and Faroe Islands) football to that, and the result is that football is played in too many countries. Too many games.

Re Paqueta - maybe not the worst thing for West Ham team. Never understood how Paqueta fits into a 3-5-2 as he isn't a good enough attacker to get loads of goals and assists and he isn't a good enough defender to help you keep CS. He is skillful, but that isn't output - in the PL he has more YCs (24) than goals and assists (22). Feel that Bowen and Paqueta should be fighting it out for one spot in this West Ham team and I would choose Bowen

He has limitations playing on the LW. He doesn't create, not good at 1v1, poor out of possession defensively. Main attributes is running behind the defence and find good positions in the box for scoring opportunities

Nothing - this is the same Brennan Johnson that was at Spurs last season.

Scores some goals now and then but loses the ball a lot. Saw them try to flick the ball on time and time again vs BOU and just ended up giving possession back to Bournemouth.

As Tony has written above - he's not a great left winger. Does not create enough chances for other places & does not dig in defensively a lot. He goes missing for large periods of games. He's probably suited to a more central role as that's where he is more dangerous - but not going to happen with Richarlison & Solanke & Xavi in front of him for that now.

His pace on the counter can be useful but for more defensively sound systems not great for breaking them down. (Depends what happens in market, but possible be ching for WHU?)

I wrote it in another comment the other day, but see his role transitioning to more of a late game substitution. He usually doesn't hit 90 minutes anyway - but a new coach with new players is coming in and it's quite clear that Johnson is one of the weak links in the starting XI at the moment.

When I say "I think" etc above it's from both watching him play, but also from research on various Spurs forums/subreddits etc. I was interested in a Spurs attacker for the next game & looked at him again - but after seeing it in reality/options - and being aware of what aspire were doing in the transfer market he's a hard avoid for me.

3 from 3. 3 princely points and a rank of over 9m. Hitting the wild card and am going to have some fun because with that start (and I know people will say there's lots of the season to go, but try blasting through 9 million other players to even get down to one million) the season is a write-off. Far too much huge catching up to do before I even get alongside. So I am actively going to wreck it and see what happens.

Really? Joelinton injury forced Howe to change the setup from standard 433 to 532 which is rhe setup he tends to use against tougher opposition?

I'm not sure about that, I think Howe overthought this fixture rather than trying to dominate with their normal style of play.

Based on what I saw. Ramsey is in midfield with bruno and tonali. Murphy and osula up top.

Yes, I'm just not sure the setup change was based on Joelinton's injury. He could have easily replaced Joelinton with Miley/Ramsey, stick with the 433 setup and have the WFs as his main attacking outlets
