The 2025/26 UEFA Champions League (UCL) campaign begins on Tuesday – and so does the competition’s official Fantasy game.

We’ll have plenty of UCL Fantasy coverage in preparation for the big kick-off, plus regular articles throughout the season.

Here, one of our Pro Pundits, FPL Milanista (aka Obay), shares some expert tips on the game. Obay knows what he’s talking about, too, with finishes of 344th, 141st and 31st in recent seasons.

Which Gameweeks could be affected by the Champions League and Europa League

The changes introduced to the UCL Fantasy format last season brought about a subtle yet impactful shift in how managers must approach the game. With no easy groups to target and teams meeting only once, strategic planning has become more crucial than ever.

Given the tournament’s relatively short duration (in terms of Matchdays), success now hinges on being sharp, proactive, and willing to act quickly to make meaningful decisions. The margin for error in this game is quite thin, and those who start slow often find themselves chasing too much ground in too little time.

In a game where each point is golden, starting strong is non-negotiable. In other words, UCL Fantasy is more of a sprint, not a marathon. The group stage is where savvy managers separate themselves from the pack. There is a significant gap in quality between the top teams and the weaker ones, which often leads to big hauls for the right players.

This is not the time to be conservative – this is when you make bold picks, target favourable fixtures, and hunt for explosive returns. Therefore, don’t be afraid to take risks, especially when it comes to captaincy or targeting players from dominant teams facing weaker opposition.

Salah's injury time heroics absolutely killing me. He is 94th on the list for non-penalty xG this season with 0.31.

Glad he has managed returns, but not impressive as an owner in the slightest. Going to be a big shift from Salah to Palmer soon.

By the looks of it you've been stuck with Watkins and Rogers since GW1 and can't find the opportunity to get rid, telling yourself: "Just one more game, just one more game."

But for them, any game is just too much. I think Villa's house of cards collapsed entirely, don't think Emery has any idea how to break down a low block with the squad at his disposal. Then there's the likes of Mings, who's been 5th choice CB for a while, but has now become a starter again. Digne, McGinn are still hevaily relied upon, while January's new signings (loan deals) were all lost along with a young prospect in Jacob Ramsey, and replaced by new short term solutions in Elliott and Sancho. I don't see how Emery can keep his job until the end f the season.

Watkins to Pedro looks an easy enough switch.

Arguably Man Utd away is a better fixture than going to the Stadium of Light at the moment.

That prime evening slot is quite good too. The 5.30pm Sky Sports match.

There's another West London affair on later on too. The production staff probably want to short trip back after 10pm.

In fact, all the later Saturday games scheduled for TV and live broadcast in England are in London so far.

I've made it to the top 200K WITHOUT Pedro. But seriously thinking I'll pull the trigger on Ekiteke to Pedro before JPs rise tomorrow. Already have 4m in bank to perhaps do Wood to Isak next week.

I'd go Watkins > Pedro and save 1 transfer if I were you.

Yet now Woltm. comes into the picture.

    Gudmundsson Cash Romero Munoz (Tarkowski)
Salah (C) Kudus Semenyo Grealish (Reijnders)

  16. Pompel
    • 12 Years
    10 months, 15 days ago

My team got on to a bad start after joining late in GW2 - team is now in need of major surgery , but not WC'ing this GW.

    Sanchez (Dubravka)
    Gabriel Tosin Gudmundson (RAN* Ballard*)
    Gakpo Semenyo Johnson Reinders (King)
    Haaland Watkins Wood

    1FT

What should be my priorities ahead of this GW, maybe do two of these moves for a hit:
    A) Johnson to Xavi, Kudus, Caicedo or Palmer
    B) Watkins to Pedro or Isak
    C) RAN to VDV , Senesi or Palace defender

    1. AC/DC AFC

Just do A and B to Pedro for a hit.

      1. Pompel
        • 12 Years

Txs, guess it's not worthwhile to chase the defcon beasts ahead of this GW, especially not for a hit - I'll leave that for WC.
You have any preferences for which midfielder? - Pallmer will limit funds elsewhere if also getting Isak later

Virgil should be good for next two Gws yes, especially if wild carding GW7. Still think in that case I'll do one of A or B too, for a hit

Most of them talk mostly sense. The issue is most of it is already obvious to the engaged managers. So I seek out those with more interesting or deeper takes. FPL Wire & Planet FPL in particular.

And if their takes are wrong I'm fine with that.

We'll see what changes in the week, but ahead of a Gw7 wildcard I'm planning to go

    Wirtz and Johnson

To Eze and Semenyo for a hit.

I've got 0.6m itb with that so will wait until Thursday at least. How stupid is that to go early on Eze with Man City and Newcastle up next?

The logic is these are games they need a good result in to win the title.

    1. JT11fc

Eze is a fixture proof kinda player, Newcastle play Barca midweek so I may cap Semenyo

Yeah, I'm all set on Semenyo finally and have to shift Johnson first and I'd be at £7.2m so Wirtz has to go too.

That's pretty much the Gw5 wildcard template I've just seen being touted on X.

Looks fine. A wildcard is down to your judgement on your current squad.

If Isak comes in soon banging goals in you'll probably need to lose Palmer to get him in I guess.

The midfield is on the budget side.

Any ideas here? 0.2 off Johnson to Palmer. Don't mind taking a hit or two. Milenkovic to Spurs or Palace defender?

    Cheers

Definitely yes to part 2. Not sure triple Chelsea would be good idea with rotation and their regular 1-1a in games they should win.

    Play Senesi(NEW) or Richards(whu)?

Tough. Whenever it's a close call like this, I tend to edge to the team playing at home.

Who is your preferred third ARS, beyond Gabriel and Gyokeres, for the coming 'good fixtures' triple up?
    A. Raya - over Donnarumma
    B. Timber - over Lacroix/Munoz
    C. Rice - over Ndiaye, Reijnders
    D. Eze - over Gakpo
    E. Others

      A. is safest. Based on eye-test I'd go Madueke, but Saka is back soon.

Raya. Based on Arsenal's squad depth, I'd expect some rotation/minutes management for everyone else.
