The 2025/26 UEFA Champions League (UCL) campaign returns on Tuesday – and so does the competition’s official Fantasy game.

Here, last year’s overall winner, Joaquín Roth (aka So VAR So Bad), shares his thoughts and reveals his Matchday 2 Limitless team.

After a mixed start in Matchday 1, when I scored 88 points to leave me 201k overall, I’m now turning my attention to Matchday 2 – and I have a big decision.

Limitless active!

My initial plan was to play the Wildcard in Matchday 4 and Limitless in Matchday 5/6, but injuries have already shaken things up.

That’s why I’ve decided to activate my Limitless in Matchday 2. With the fixtures on offer, this feels like the best opportunity to attack the weaker sides with the strongest squads, before returning to a more balanced, longer-term setup from Matchday 3 onwards.

Of course, the Limitless chip always comes with pressure. The need to differentiate from template teams is higher, and missing one or two highly-owned “explosive” players can feel costly. Still, I see it as the right route given the current landscape.

Fixtures & Strategy

UEFA Champions League (UCL) Fantasy: Scout Picks Matchday 12 1

Heading into Matchday 2, rumours are already swirling about potential rotations, but my strategy remains the same:

  • Target Bayern vs Pafos
  • Target Real Madrid vs Kairat (with the bonus that we’ll see their XI pre-deadline)
  • Lean on Inter assets hosting Slavia Praha
  • Add a couple of Arsenal picks at home to Olympiakos

Those four fixtures are the spine of my Limitless draft.

Current draft – with doubts noted

    FPL UCL:

1 defender and 1 mid needed, heaps of money, will ideally keep for several weeks

    Suggestions?

Can’t know the ones you don’t have. Maybe get Grimaldo & Salah

Cheers, yes i had not considered those.

        For reference, i have

        Mctominay, Gnabry, Olise, Goncalves
        Upamecano, Dumfries, Porro, Quenda

        Replacing Raphinha and Rodinei

Are you maxed out on Real Madrid & Bayern? That'd be my first priority for this round. Otherwise, longer-term... looks like Yamal is back & you can't really go wrong with Arsenal defenders

Maxxed on Bayern, but not sure how to go about madrid.

Long long haul means possibility of rest? and rumors about vini benching would surely throw a spanner in the works.

Who do you think will start from the gunners? unsure who to pick

Yamal a good shout i agree, but do i wait till after paris? tough fixture but could easily be like 5-4 or something

Not many will have Bellingham since he wasn't fit for the first game I guess. I have Vini, just hoping he doesn't get benched again.

I'm inclined to think that all PSG's attacking injuries might make for a tighter game, but I'm not really sure tbh. Personally had planned to bring in Yamal after this fixture (for Vini)

Cheers, plumped for calafiori in the end
                Time will tell..
Also eventually went rodrygo instead of Bellingham as Jude is missing from a few predicted lineups

What do you make of FPL General sticking to no Salah, no Haaland? Apparently it’s to enjoy the game more and not rely on those two this season. Currently ranked 7.1 million, not too sure what enjoyment you get from that.

It's like spending your time playing golf every weekend using garden tools > golf clubs.

Might be fun the first weekend.

Everyone is allowed to play the game with whatever approach they like. Personally, i like maverick managers because of their unorthodox approach. Boring doing what others do every time. The success tastes better when it works out, a disaster when it doesn’t like in this scenario.

All in all, I don’t think Haaland & Salah should be left out of our teams because they their history.

      GL to him.

2 seasons ago I did the no Haaland for the full season and it never ended well. The weeks he failed and my picks did well my rank shot up although these weeks were significantly outweighed by Haaland’s good/great weeks and my rank then took a battering.

However, with 15 players to choose in our squads there are so many ways to be creative, maverick and finds those low owned players who give you that enjoyment while have 1-2 players that everyone else has but you know you can captain and not have your rank damaged while having a squad full of fun picks to try and better the masses.

It’s almost like these guys are more interested in creating content and getting attention than actually playing the game and being found out as spoofers.

Most of the CCs are not interested in playing the game at all. At this point they are just following AI to try as hard they can to cling to their claim of having a high rank on the all time best list. No willingness to follow intuition.

FPL General has chosen a silly way to be maverick that is just outright bad but at least he's not blindly following AI like Bigmanbakar, Ben Crellin and the other sheep.

So much good stuff in there.

I once asked AI who to pick for cwc fantasy, and it claimed that Desire Doue was doing very well at rennes and ought to be considered.

I'm absolutely fine with it. Nothing wrong with an experiment in real time. Also, I prefer to watch content from people who are also doing badly if I am. Safe to say I'm avoiding videos with 'Triple Captain Success' this week, sickening stuff.

I like it. It wont' take many of the higher priced (but not Salah/Haaland) players to go on scoring streaks to shoot him up the ranks when the majority jsut wont' have the budget to include them all.

Season is a marathon not a sprint and Haaland has started well, but if he has a barren run for a few weeks most won't drop him until that few weeks becomes a much longer streak. Salah isn't performing well for 14.5m, it's unfortunate for General that many of the cheap mids are doing well so far but if Palmer, Saka, Foden, Isak all start becoming 'essential' that budget tied up will need to be released and General is ahead of the curve.

Inter usually flatter to deceive. I think they win tonight, not sure they register lots of goals though. Arsenal, on the other hand, are capable of smashing Olympiakos 5-0. So 1 Inter, 1 Arsenal probably the way.
Turkish guy, Çalhanoğlu & greek kind of name, Gyökeres way forward

Agree that it will likely be 2-0

But i feel like thuram is the kind of guy who would score both those goals

Gyokeres is very capabble of winning 6-0 and getting hooked on 60, goalless

I think a 4.5 like Roefs will match Raya for value. It depends what you do with the 1.0 I suppose, as to whether you come out on top from that equation.

Annoyed by KDH undeserved yellow last night ruining my BB7 plans but on reflection it's OK, BB9 probably better anyway and KDH now has 5 clear games before his next ban...

Kind of sick of punting on teams that let me down. Add Everton and Spurs now to Forest and Villa.

Also KDH looks like just as good (or bad) an asset as Ndiaye but at 5m he's fine for an 8th attacker.

      1. Brosstan
        • 12 Years

The yellow cards make him a pretty bad pick imo. Even if yesterday's was undeserved, 5 yellows in 6 GWs is awful

The last 2 were for taking a free kick too early (ffs) and a legitimate tackle. 3 in 6 if the refs were competent, which isn't too bad. Again, a nailed 5m asset playing as a 10, decent I think.

Would you go with Gordon + Guiu (0,3 ITB) or Woltemade + Miley (0,5 ITB) ?
For what it's worth I think both are pretty nailed to start, but I don't know if Gordon is still on pens? Any Magpies out there knows who will take the next penalty?

    Gives me:
    Vicario
    Gabriel - Virgil - Lacroix - Senesi - Andersen
    Salah - Semenyo
    Haaland - Mateta
    + Gordon/Woltemade

Too expensive with his recent fitness troubles and unsure if he's still on pens.

Double Arsenal defence is too tempting and Gyok is the most nailed player in that attack.

There’s no way to fit Saka and Gyokeres in really plus he has double Arsenal defence

Yeah that's the only downside, will have to wait for the pressers before activating it, but the fixtures are very tempting. I can always postpone if too many doubts/injuries.

      For WC7 BB8 I’d go:

      Pope - Dubravka
      Gabriel - Senesi - Guehi - Kilman - Alderete
Salah - Semenyo - Stach - Le Fee - King
      Haaland - Gyokeres - Mateta

Thanks but downgrading the team basically everywhere for a 14.5m player I won't even captain for the next 5 GWs is not for me.

Money is ‘just’ taken out of your midfield really. Helps avoiding benching headaches after BB.

Keepers - Defense - Attack has not been dowgraded.

          But fair enough 🙂

Who should be the absolute essentials on a WC? This isn't me trying to get my WC done for me btw. It's just I have some doubts on losing certain players

Haaland, Semenyo, Gabriel, Dubravka and that is probably it.

I'd agree on them mate . Senesi is annoying to not own too

    Simple one
    Saka or Eze?
Not sure what the stats are saying. And Saka more nailed on than Eze?

Not simple at all, thought about it for a long time and went Gyok and double Ars defence instead. Eze will likely be rotated in and out - Arsenal have Trossard, Martinelli, Odegaard, Merino who could all play in his position.. And Saka has been too injury prone recently to justify the price - also does he still take pens? Too many uncertainties for both players imo.
