As you might have noticed, we have recently added some new stats into our Members Area, one of which is ‘Chance Involvement’.

The stat is explained here, but essentially, it tells us how important a player is to their team’s attack.

This is determined by calculating the percentage of their team’s chances a player has either created or attempted themselves while on the pitch.

It can be found under ‘Chances’ in the ‘Involvement’ tabs in ‘Player Stats’, as below.

WHO ARE THE LEADING PLAYERS FOR ‘CHANCE INVOLVEMENT’ IN 2025/26?

Prior to looking at each club individually, here are the top 25 players.

We have excluded those who have played for less than 180 minutes this season.

ERLING HAALAND

FPL notes: Another Haaland goal + Pep on "incredible" Foden

Erling Haaland (£14.5m) is predictably at the top of this list.

The Norwegian has already produced 10 attacking returns, averaging 10.0 points per start, having either attempted or created 42.3% of Manchester City’s chances while on the pitch.

The fact that none of Haaland’s nine goals this season have been penalties makes it even more impressive.

In contrast, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (£14.4m) is significantly lower (23.3%), as captured in this list of £9.0m+ players:

Name  TeamMinsCI %
HaalandMan City59342.3
PalmerChelsea14435.7
FernandesMan Utd62631.8
SakaArsenal34626.2
SalahLiverpool62923.3
GyokeresArsenal67619.4
IsakLiverpool18017.2

ANTHONY GORDON

Newcastle v Liverpool team news: Szoboszlai at left-back

Anthony Gordon (£7.4m) has not managed to score in his last 16 Premier League appearances; however, his chance involvement at Newcastle United is significant.

This season, he averages a shot every 22.5 minutes, although it is important to note that seven of his 12 total attempts arrived in one match (away at Aston Villa in Gameweek 1).

But a chance involvement rate of 40.5% is still considerable, indicating that Gordon could be an effective differential for Newcastle’s upcoming run of fixtures.

SEAN LONGSTAFF/ANTON STACH

The top FPL players for ‘chance involvement’ in 2025/26

Leeds United’s Sean Longstaff (£4.9m) and Anton Stach (£5.0m) are both included, yet the trajectories of these two midfielders are in stark contrast to one another.

Stach has recently lost set-piece duties to Longstaff, which has contributed towards the latter surpassing him in terms of chance involvement.

Indeed, over the last three Gameweeks (small sample size alert!), Stach has registered just two shots and three chances created.

Conversely, Longstaff has combined seven shots with 12 chances created over the same period, being directly involved in 46.3% of Leeds’ chances.

I think Marshall 4.4m would be my fodder pick for 3rd FWD spot.

    - Fullkrug injured with a "muscle bundle tear in his thigh"
    - Got some mins off the bench in the last game against Arsenal under Nuno ahead of Wilson.
    - WHU fans seem bullish on Marshall to continue to get mins.
    - Kroupi Jr and Guiu block Bournemouth and Chelsea spots respectively

Can anyone name a good way to use "Chance Involvement" over other stats? In what scenario would Chance Involvement trump other stats like xGi, Shots/Touches in the Box etc? Feels like a useless and potentially misleading stat to me. Should I pick Arias and Bellegarde because of these stats? lol

Browser. I havent heard of it happening recently but for a long time there were pretty severe bugs that could happen with contact between the app and the actual game, where you made transfers on the app but they didnt sync with the actual game. Probably fixed by now but better safe than sorry for me.

The fact you've got Arias, who's amassed a total of 0.6 xG and 0.3 xA, so high on this list should underline just how meaningless "chances" as a stat truly is.

Tyrone Mings has the same number of 'chances created' as Gordon, Martinelli, Eze, Johnson... and just one more than Robert Sanchez. Get him in your team!

    1. Haa-lala-land

Oh God I was thinking of bringing him in!
Hes played 90 the last two.
Wolves seemed to have stopped the rot with a couple of draws at least, and have a couple of nice looking fixtures ahead. At the 5.2 range, the only other ones are the Burnley/Leeds defcon guys who prove tough to get excited by

    2. Brosstan
      • 12 Years

Its not that chances is meaningless. Its involvement specifically that is a terrible stat.

If City had scored 10 more goals from players other than Haaland, Haalands "Chance Involvement" would be worse. Would that make him a worse pick? Of course not. Its a pointless stat for picking individual players.

The only use I see for this stat is to know which teams to completely avoid if certain players get injured. Like if Haaland gets injured, theres little reason to believe that other City players will step up in his absence.

      1. x.jim.x
        • 11 Years
        10 months, 6 days ago

Yes involvement is also meaningless without context (attackers are more involved than defenders, whoa who knew) but this is doubly so due to chances being a fugazi stat in itself.

A through ball leading to a tap-in holds as much weight as a pass on the halfway line leading to a DM having a 40 yard potshot

        1. Brosstan
          • 12 Years
          10 months, 6 days ago

Oh really a chance is counted like that? Then I agree. It should be xGi-based to have any value.

          1. x.jim.x
            • 11 Years
            10 months, 6 days ago

Yeah a “chance” is basically just a pass that leads to a shot, hence Bruno topping the charts every season.
