Sunday’s 16:30 GMT kick-off is set to be a big one for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers, with Gameweek 11’s most-captained player Erling Haaland in action against Liverpool.

TEAM NEWS

Pep Guardiola makes three changes to the side that started the 4-1 Champions League win over Borussia Dortmund.

John Stones, Tijjani Reijnders and Savinho drop to the bench, with Ruben Dias, Bernardo Silva and Rayan Cherki coming into the starting XI.

Liverpool are unchanged from the midweek win over Real Madrid, which means Florian Wirtz keeps his place in front of Cody Gakpo.

Alexander Isak is named among the substitutes.

LINE-UPS

Manchester City XI: Donnarumma, Nunes, Dias, Gvardiol, O’Reilly, Gonzalez, Bernardo, Foden, Cherki, Doku, Haaland

Subs: Trafford, Reijnders, Stones, Ake, Marmoush, Ait-Nouri, Savinho, Bobb, Lewis

Liverpool XI: Mamardashvili, Bradley, Konate, van Dijk, Robertson, Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Salah, Szoboszlai, Wirtz, Ekitike

Would Donny having to move to his right to see the header count as obstruction?

We will never know. If Robertson wasn’t there he would have had a clean attempt at it at least. Wondering whether Robertson is going to play the ball or not obviously impacts his ability to make the save. Kind of makes it irrelevant whether he would have made it or not

Why does this change whether or not it is an assist?

The ball has to still be inside the penalty box after deflection from cross to be an assist. Its the rules.

    MCILIV – 38’

The referee’s call of offside and no goal to Liverpool was checked and confirmed by VAR – with Robertson in an offside position and deemed to be making an obvious action directly in front of the goalkeeper.

None of the criteria below were met for van Dijk’s goal to be deemed offside, and from the linesman’s point of view he was incompetent to be the final judge of the situation. VAR should’ve intervened.

    Interfering with an opponent by:
    - preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing the opponent’s line of vision or
    - challenging an opponent for the ball or
    - clearly attempting to play a ball which is close when this action impacts on an opponent or
    - making an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball.

He was almost in line with the ball

      It's one of those

Which one? These situations happen all the time when the ball’s flying over the head of players in offside position.

He’s not obstructing the vision of the goalkeeper, who had a clear view of the shooter, which is the one I think they went for. In practice he’d also have to occupy some space in which the goalkeeper was supposed to jump, and he didn’t do that either. I think it was dismissed too soon by the VAR.

making an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball.

This happened. Donna wouldn’t have known if Robertson was offside or not in the moment. Any movement from Robertson at all and the keeper doesn’t know if he has tried to play it or not and therefore if he needs to adjust to Robertsons movement etc.

I have no love for City in any way but I think it’s the right call. You can see arguments for both

Yeah. Liverpool look so much better and fluid without him. Isak is also constantly injured (was injury strewn at Newcastle so I don't understand why they bought him, especially at that price)

Fully believe that Liverpool will still be challenging for the title with City and Arsenal come season end. It’s such early door and it is going to click soon.

    2. Ignasi M
      • 8 Years

As it stands they'll have lost 5 games. That isn't good enough. Title winners over the last 5 years have lost 3 games max. The threshold is four. So, if you lose more than 4 you're probably not going to win the league.

      1. FPL Blow-In
        • Fantasy Football Scout Member

City has lost 3 already too though.

        1. Ignasi M
          • 8 Years
          4 months, 20 days ago

Yes, exactly. Meaning that they can't afford to lose another game. Historically, 3 losses is the total maximum a title winner can afford. So, City can't really afford to lose another game now until the end of the season.

      2. Hughes Your Daddy
        • 13 Years

Yep, Liverpool are terrible, even little old Palace beat them 3 times this season already. Has to be Man City or Arsenal this season.

    3. Ignasi M
      • 8 Years

This is a transition year for pool. They've brought in too many forward players without reinforcing the defence. Liverpool will do well to qualify for champs league this year as that defence is not good enough anymore at the top, top level.

      1. JBG

Yeah, Haaland is the only decent City player from an FPL perspective. Maaaayyyyybe Ruben Dias at a push. City still concede goals though, so would rather spend my money on Arsenal, Palace, or even Chelsea defenders.

    Gvardiol only on 3 defcon????

Your team needs to gain possession of the ball for stuff like tackles to count Im pretty sure. I think thats what throws people off when trying to count def cons. Doesnt count for clearances and cross/shot blocks but for other CBIs you need the action to gain possession.
