Mohamed Salah starts a Premier League match for the first time since November in the late kick-off.

The Egyptian gets to face one of his favoured opponents, too, as Liverpool head south to face Bournemouth.

Kick-off is at 17:30 GMT.

TEAM NEWS

Salah is part of a Liverpool side that is mostly the same as the one Arne Slot sent out to face Marseille.

There is one alteration, however, with Cody Gakpo coming in for Hugo Ekitike. The French striker drops to the bench.

Joe Gomez starts again at centre-half, with Ibrahima Konate absent on compassionate grounds.

Andrew Robertson is among the substitutes despite reports linking him with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

There’s also one change for Bournemouth tonight.

It’s an enforced one, as Adam Smith replaces the injured Marcus Tavernier.

That’ll presumably see Alex Jimenez push up the right flank, with Smith taking over duties at full-back.

New signing Alex Toth is on the bench for the Cherries.

It’s 11 goals in 12 Premier League starts for Salah against this evening’s hosts, one of which came in the reverse fixture back in Gameweek 1.

Liverpool as a team have scored 2+ goals in 16 of their last 17 meetings with Bournemouth.

LINE-UPS

Bournemouth XI: Petrovic, Smith, Hill, Senesi, Truffert, Scott, Cook, Jimenez, Kroupi, Adli, Evanilson.

Subs: Forster, Christie, Diakite, Unal, Toth, Milosavljevic, Sadi, Rees-Dottin, DaCosta.

Liverpool XI: Alisson, Frimpong, Gomez, Van Dijk, Kerkez, Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, Wirtz, Gakpo, Salah.

Subs: Mamardashvili, Woodman, Endo, Jones, Ekitike, Robertson, Nyoni, Ramsay, Ngumoha.

    Need 0.2m for BrunoG > F

    a) Wolte > Kroupi (leaves 2.4m for Wilson > Rogers/Semenyo later)
    b) Ekitike > Pedro

Was planning that in GW27. Looking like I may as well just do it. Not having him, has gone poorly.

And he scores randomly against any type of defence, so I won't bother with timing him

Keep or sell Bowen? Hauled today, yes, but fixtures turning and West Ham's consistency still an unknown.

Wanted to ship after this game, but now second guessing.
They look improved, Chelseas high backline looks wobbly and after that Burnley...

Inclined to hold myself for those two and reasses. Not that the other forwards are must haves recently

Maybe that is the problem. Don't use your brain and just throw a dice.

It often feels like poor decision making in hindsight because you probably spent too much time overthinking it before the deadline.

For example, Haaland could have easily hauled in his cameo. It happened before but not today. It wasn't wrong giving him the armband, especially because many others changed it after the leaks.

It is definitely a weird season. This is the first season since I came back in 2018 that I've just not cared about team value. I had to find out how to check prices a couple days ago ahead of my WC to see which players I had going up or down and I only did it because I'm WC'ing.

The premiums have been so poor that players like Rice, Semenyo, Enzo are the best picks and defenders are better than ever with DefCons that budget just doesn't matter much.

Liverpool looked like they were turning the season around until Salah came back from that AFCON. His fake assist hides his poor overall performance. And he is slowing down everyone around him.

Salah playing over 90 minutes was not right and was nothing else than a sad kneejerk by Slot. As a manger he should see that Salah with his Klopp.style.football doesn't fit in his new team anymore. You can't buy players like Ekitike, Wirtz, Isak and Frimpong and let them play along someone who doesn't want to adapt.

    1. DARE TO BISCAN
      • 7 Years
      2 months, 10 days ago

Not about him not wanting to adapt. Salah relied on his sharpness, turn of pace, strength, and ruthlessness. He's lost all that. Father time has caught up.

I'm not sure. It just looks like he doesn't enjoy it anymore because there was too much change on the pitch around him. And that slows him down.

Wirtz and Ekitike had way more freedom and less pressure when Salah was not on the pitch. Salah should be a leader and built the new.guys up. But he can't because he is the special one...

        1. DARE TO BISCAN
          • 7 Years

He's not playing poorly on purpose because he's in a strop.

He's just done. He can't zip away from players, which frustrates him.

The team, rightly, isn't built around him. Which probably doesn't help his ego. Which is understandable, after 8 years as top dog.
It happens when all top players age out. Awkward transition.

Can't believe I'm saying this but... I'd just do Wirtz > Bruno and not WC this team.

That is a really nice team. The fact you can afford Saka there instead of Rice is a nice differential and impressive team value.

Pep is a fraud. Today a great example . He’s allowed to rest Haaland (who he doesn’t really know how to get the best out of ) and put in a bloke he’s practically retired.

People need to switch on. He’s no genius, the 115 charges are a direct result of a manager who can’t find answers without getting the chequebook out.

He needs to follow a manager who has provided him with all the ingredient to win leagues. He doesn’t know how to do it on his own.

City are absolutely cheating with the money they have, but we’ve seen countless times that having an expensive squad doesn’t win you titles.

I can’t wait for the class of (pick your year) for Man City. You know the year where pep developed a young player to become a central figure in one of his sides.

Name 3 players pep has developed to become key members of a winning side in the decade he’s been at Man City ?

It’s sad to see so many people unable to accept on any level pep has bought titles. Just because some managers have failed with money isn’t a great argument to prove his genius. It’s flawed

Anyone sick of the obscene spending in football needs to find some courage to call out the people responsible

I mean, the English contingent of Sterling, Foden, Stones and Walker off the top of my head.

I assume you have this same attitude towards Eddie Howe and the unfair advantage PIF have given him?

Interesting case is Newcastle. Pep is a genius and people fail with money which means he’s a genius.

Can Newcastle have unlimited expenditure ? Absolutely not as that’s not fair that they could buy the league.

Oh wait , hang on I thought it was the unique Pep winning the titles and not the money .

If Eddie Howe had unlimited spending he’d win the league with Newcastle. That’s a fear of non Newcastle United supporters. Anyone holding g that opinion

Would have to admit then money is the key and not pep.

I bet most people here didn’t know pep failed two drugs tests and was banned for a long time for failing drugs tests (of which he was exonerated)

Bad news on pep is buried. Awkward questions aren’t asked.

He paid £50m for stones , £50m for Walker . You can’t say he developed them from the youth team.

Foden the only one and I’d argue he’s not what most England fans hoped he’d be

You said “developed”, not the youth team. Why would Pep care what England fans think?

I think you need to realise you get “silence” off people because you argue in bad faith and constantly move the goalposts.

Eddie Howe just peed a load of money up the wall on Elanga, Wissa, Ramsey, etc. He’s backed by a nation state, just like Pep.

For you to write this it tells me a lot. Newcastle tried to sign geuhi for £70m and palace rejected , do you think Eddie Howe wanted him for £20m?

Being backed by a nation state is what Man City is . Why don’t you say that? Why is it what people fear might happen at Newcastle (if we were allowed unlimited spending ) have. Nothing to say about Pep’s spending. Can you not see how hypocritical that is.

Man City have and are doing what people are scared about Newcastle doing but throw the state ownership at Newcastle not Man City. You have to be better than that with your research and thinking .

Newcastle were buying wissa and woltemade because a bigger club wanted our striker . Liverpool have earned their position at the top table. Man city
                        Haven’t .

It’s not bad faith to hold an opinion that is unpopular.

I am not moving the goal posts . Pep doesn’t develop players from the youth set up other than foden. That’s not an opinion. It’s not even discussing the reasons why it’s just a factual statement.

When most teams transfer record was £10-20m at the time bought stones and Walker it’s not right to say he developed them from youth. They were already good and he put them in his side and he paid £100m for the pair, that’s not youth development .

I’ll concede on some things. Pep is a winner , he demands the highest standards from players , he is relentless.

Why would he leave Barcelona (much bigger club than city )

Why would he leave Bayern Munich (much bigger club than city )

                        Why?

this buying title argument ended a while ago. this isnt 2005 or 2011. all big clubs spend very big now. united chelsea made a mess of the money. liverpool making it now. arsenal have not won anything (yet)

the only other thing id say is that the backbone of city's most successful pep teams was bought when rival clubs didnt have the same spending power. pep is definitely finding it tougher now to build another great team. cant see city winning the league this year or the next

Nightcrawler, thanks for your post. It’s nice to hear something more balanced with some concession that Pep had/has it better than other teams.

But still the Manchester City spending has broken psr rules. There’s still no link between pep and those rule breaks. I find it astonishing.

There’s spending then there’s Pep spending . Newcastle United record signing was. It can’t all be swept under the carpet because other team spent a lot in the past .

I also heard a lot of people in the past say Man U bought the league but I very very rarely hear that about Pep.

Not every manager wins titles by spending more than everyone else.

I’m not saying he’s a cheat but he failed two drugs tests as a player so toys are factually wrong . People did accuse him of cheating with the evidence of two failed anti doping tests.

                He was cleared. Ok

    Raya Dubravka

    Gabriel Dorgu Andersen O'Reilly Mukiele
    Saka Foden Enzo Rogers Wilson
    EBH Thiago Ekitike

I need to generate 0.9m in order to do Foden > Bruno. Which option should I choose?

    A) Sell Saka for Rice
    B) Sell Ekitike for Evanilson
    C) Sell Nico O Reilly for bench fodder
    D) Sell Wilson for bench fodder
    E) Other (please specify)
