West Ham United v Arsenal rounds off the day’s Premier League football.

Kick-off is at 16:30 BST.

TEAM NEWS

Arsenal are unchanged from the side that beat Atletico Madrid in midweek.

That means Riccardo Calafiori continues at left-back, with Myles Lewis-Skelly preferred to Martin Zubimendi in central midfield.

Further forward, Bukayo Saka, Eberechi Eze and Leandro Trossard support Viktor Gyokeres up top.

As for West Ham, they make two alterations: Jean-Clair Todibo and Aaron Wan-Bissaka in for Kyle Walker-Peters and Pablo Felipe, who drop to the bench.

It suggests the Hammers will play with a back three.

LINE-UPS

West Ham United XI: Hermansen, Todibo, Mavropanos, Disasi, Wan-Bissaka, Soucek, Fernandes, Diouf, Bowen, Summerville, Taty

Subs: Areola, Walker-Peters, Kilman, Wilson, Pablo, Magassa, Scarles, Potts, Kante

Arsenal XI: Raya, White, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori, Rice, Lewis-Skelly, Saka, Eze, Trossard, Gyokeres

Subs: Kepa, Mosquera, Hincapie, Odegaard, Martinelli, Madueke, Havertz, Zubimendi, Dowman

Scrap VAR. Honestly. The excitement when West Ham equalised. For nothing.

It’s crap, I guarantee in 2-3 years it will go back to how it used to be.

The amount of clubs voting it out will win in the end, as they have the money.

It won't instead they will find ways to make it better in my opinion. VAR is very useful just depends on how it is implemented. The PL is very corrupt just like UEFA & FIFA. Some leagues are slightly better.

So easy for people to forget how it used to be before VAR & Goal line technology when offside goals stood & Frank Lampard's '10 world cup goal disallowed. J

Goal line technically is different, it’s black or white. VAR cannot be used, nobody thinks the game is as fun anymore, and eventually that will drain the money from it.

They will see this and take action, because money talks.

Before they introduced both, football wasn't clearly better. People just forgot about the debate. The technology itself is useful but how it is handled is another debate. PL is corrupt so no surprise there but the VAR don't receive heavy backlash in the Bundesliga like it is in the PL

But it’s killed celebration of goals, which is the endorphin hit of the whole sport.
Technology should only be used for situations which are black or white.
If human judgement is going to be used in the end anyway, scrap VAR because it serves no purpose but to kill the magic moments in the sport.

Oh look it's you again. If VAR is scrapped I guarantee within a few weeks you'll have dozens of incidents of "oh if we had VAR then that goal would blah blah"

We would, but as the old age argument said, because it was instant human judgement, errors would even out over the long term.

Imagine losing the title due to a foul not being given though. It’s the correct decision. Awful for West Ham fans but it’s right!

Is it 100% a foul? Did Pablo move his arm to block Raya or was Raya not strong enough. Pablo looked pinned.

He held the arm at the forearm and Todibo is yanking him at the back of the jersey. That’s not being strong and standing your ground

If I showed you the goals from set pieces this season I guarantee you about a third will involve players hands/arms/legs on keepers, and 99% have still been given.

So by the rulebook yes it’s a foul, by the majority of decisions other teams have faced this season? No.

It’s like speeding, you won’t get a ticket going slightly over the limit, only the worst offenders will.

It’s meant to be for clear and obvious errors, and there wasn’t any clear and obvious errors in a packed 6 yard box with players tustling, like in every single game.

Raya moving out of the 6 yard box into a mass of players tussling for the ball and impeding himself = foul

Arsenal blocking the opposition goalkeeper so he cant move off his line on every single corner kick = no foul

Absolute utter bs. Game is well and truly gone if this is the standard of refereeing. Pathetic.

A attacking player can stand in the 6 yard box and stand their ground for a corner. That’s not a new thing. They can’t hold on to the keeper though

Not a mention of the fact also Declan rice was rugby tacking a West Ham player behind the ball

    3. Raya had an arm around his neck while trying to catch the ball. And another player pulling his left arm, clearly see in the voltage. VAR worked perfectly. Mayb the players should stop fouling each other from set pieces?

Not an Arsenal supporter, but clearly Raya was doubly fouled - if that had happened and no goal was scored and the ref blew the foul there wouldn't even be a debate.
Sorry for the Hammers supporters - that game was such a good watch and a draw would have been well deserved.

The bar for disallowing a goal should be higher, imo. Not every decision is objective, even offside.

Take the Cucurella offside yesterday when Palmer scored. Was he offside by an inch? It’s crazy.

    1. So just because it’s an inch offside, nah that’s close, it’s all good bro, it’s a goal coz it was only a little bit? What a ridiculous viewpoint

The West Ham players in front and behind Raya are being manhandled and bulldozed away ... but only the Raya contact is is interesting? It's a Rugby scrum on the play and only a weakly extended arm is a "foul"

People talking about other players holding each other as a reason for the goal incorrectly being disallowed is madness. Two outfield players tussling and using their arms on each other is one thing, but preventing a GK using their arms which is their main function really, can’t be considered the same. Hence why keepers are overprotected (which i agree that they are). The keeper had his arm held and was having his jersey pulled.

This is the issue with VAR that no-one really anticipated: with a replay you can always find something that is subjectively a foul.

Watch the goal in real time and without a magnifying glass and it looks like hundreds of other goals given over the years.

A case in point is holding of the shirt. Freeze frame a replay and it will look like an attacker is being fouled. Now we have the ridiculous situation of judging how long was a player held for.

Again, this is more so relating to outfield players. Keepers don’t tend to hold players because then how would they use their hands to punch, catch, save a ball?

In this scenario, the holding of the shirt, and arm, wasn’t just a freeze frame if it happening for a second, it was ongoing for a few seconds.

These goals have been given historically but I’ve not seen goals like that being allowed often since VAR came in which is the purpose of it after all right?

But if you rewind back to the order of the fouls.. i'm sure multiple west ham players were being held or pulled down prior to the foul on Raya. which has been one of the stickling points this season.. the corner wrestling. they turn a blind eye to it all apart from impeding the gk... shouldnt all fouls be considered equally ?

Just watched my team Boro miss multiple chances like the Fernandes opportunity over the last three months.....Championship standard finishing I'm afraid

      2. I think he was trying to sell the slot past Raya into the corner but Raya didn’t fall for it.

Yeah could have been! Just needs to not take the last touch, open his body out and roll it in the corner.

Yes when I used BB in GW38 I ended up with two of my bench players being autosubs, another not featuring, and a 1 pointer in total.
