Who are the penalty takers at all 20 Premier League clubs?

While it’s not the be-all and end-all, being a penalty taker can really boost a player’s appeal in Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

Our Set-Piece Takers tab keeps track of who we think is on spot-kicks throughout the season.

But there are often some ‘unknowns’ every summer, with first-choice takers leaving clubs and new arrivals threatening to upset the established order.

Here we look at all 20 Premier League teams, picking out who is a nailed-on taker – and where it’s less clear-cut. Transfermarkt was a great help for this piece, as was our very own Penalty Takers tool in the Members Area.

THE ESTABLISHED FIRST-CHOICE TAKERS

FPL notes: Haaland blank, Semenyo scores again + O’Reilly injury latest

  • Brentford, Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United

All of the names below were clear, first-choice penalty takers at their respective clubs last season and remain integral to those teams going into 2026/27.

BRENTFORD

Igor Thiago (£8.0m) took nine of Brentford’s Premier League spot-kicks last season, scoring eight of them.

The one interloper was Kevin Schade (£6.0m), who bemusingly stepped up to take one – with Thiago on the field – in the Gameweek 3 loss at Sunderland. He missed, and he hasn’t been seen on spot-kick duties since.

CHELSEA

Cole Palmer (£9.5m) has long been responsible for Chelsea’s spot-kicks.

He took six of the Blues’ eight Premier League penalties in 2025/26, scoring all but the last of them.

When Palmer wasn’t available, Enzo Fernandez (£7.0m) twice deputised from 12 yards in the league.

Liam Delap (£5.5m) has scored twice from the spot in pre-season but that was during a glorified B-team match, which didn’t feature Palmer or Enzo. He might be on his way out of the club this summer anyway.

MANCHESTER CITY

Erling Haaland (£15.5m) took all six of City’s penalties in all competitions in 2025/26.

Not since Omar Marmoush (£7.0m) failed from the spot in the 2025 FA Cup final has anyone tried to upset the established order.

MANCHESTER UNITED

Bruno Fernandes (£12.0m) has been United’s main taker for several years. He took all six Premier League penalties for the Red Devils in 2025/26.

Despite missing twice from the spot last autumn, he remained first in line and converted his next three penalties.

      Four 4.5m defenders is proper old school. Love it.

      If you'd like another defcon beast, keep an eye on Ajer. He should be filling in for van den Berg who is apparently out for months. Let's see if he starts their final pre-season game. 10.9 defcons per start (66.7%) when playing at CB in a back 4. Senesi level.

      I like MGW, over the past 4 seasons he's got a goal or an assist every 180 mins on average. He has exceeded his XGI every season so makes a lot out of nothing. For comparison Bruno and Mbuemo are both around every 135 mins.

            We'll see how he goes. I don't put store in X* stats and none on FDR if an attacking player is on form. Looks like plenty of value in the 6-8m mids.

    I don’t think there’s going to be too much to take from some of tonight’s starting line-ups.

    Arsenal fielding quite a mix of first team starters and other players. Gabriel starts, Jesus leads the attack, quite a few big names on the bench.

    Mbeumo starts for Man Utd, but I don’t think as the 9 as the rumoured to be leaving Zirkzee starts. Bruno and Shaw both on the bench.

    Calvert-Lewin and Rodin both benched for Leeds, but Trafford starts, as does Muharemovic

      Bruno vs Cunha/Mbeumo is what's doing me in at the moment as well.

      I feel Bruno moreso start of last season was lying deeper. We know he has set piece.

      Mbeumo in particular has chance to be more forward finishing chances. Cunha as well. Cunha / Saka for me to start out

      It’s a 9 from me

      I’d rather have Isak, Bruno, O’Shea, Ajer, Gabriel, Sangaré over Haaland, Sarr, Gvardiol, Shaw, White, Groß. For me, getting Bruno is more important than Haaland early doors because of fixtures and Haaland’s v late return to pre-season

      You could also go Thiago instead of Isak then Groß to Gomez and keep Gvardiol.

      I like your team a lot though I think it will score well

      Too much money on the bench for me. If no BB I’d want two min price outfielders and probably a min price GK. That’s a 2.5m saving even if you leave a 5.0m defender which is massive. I don’t think Shaw is the best pick because he might fall down the pecking order if Lewis Hall is signed and he offers almost nothing bar Utd clean sheets. I think Bruno F will be important to own for at least the first two

      Pedro Bruno and Wirtz, mostly because I don’t think Cunha gets all that many minutes. If Cunha is Mbeumo then it’s much closer but I’m not sold on Palmer just yet so still Pedro Bruno Wirtz.

      Ndiaye better than Groß but more expensive. That’s a downgrade you can make if you need the 0.5 imo

      B probably, though I’m not sold on Bruno G. Could it be Szobo instead? I just think Mbeumo will be probably one of the best value picks in the game, think Gabriel is worth it over Calafiori, and think Maguire is a lot better than Shaw

          No Bruno or Haaland? Seems a little crazy as you don’t want to leave too much money on the bench and it’s good to have more reliable captaincy shouts if you need them, even though Mbeumo, Semenyo, and Pedro can haul on their day
