It’s going to take some getting used to not hearing from Pep Guardiola on a Friday, but Enzo Maresca began his pre-match duties as Manchester City boss ahead of the Community Shield clash with Arsenal.
Here are the standout quotes.
HAALAND LATEST
City held an open training session at their Academy Stadium earlier this week, and Erling Haaland (heel) sat out the last part of it.
However, all is seemingly well with the big Norwegian, who is yet to kick a ball in pre-season.
“He was okay. He just had some small things behind his heels but he was okay.” – Enzo Maresca on Erling Haaland
RODRI UPDATE
Elsewhere, Rodri (back) is back at the training ground and working on his rehabilitation after undergoing post-World Cup surgery.
“He’s now in rehab. When he’s ready to start a training session, he’ll start a training session with us. This is the problem for him.” – Enzo Maresca
OTHER INJURY NEWS
Otherwise, Maresca has a pretty fit squad for Sunday’s Community Shield.
The official reason for Savinho‘s recent absence from training is “illness”, but reports suggest he’s edging closer to a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
“The reason why, he was a little bit ill. We see it today. The session is in the afternoon. So, we see how he is today and then we decide.” – Enzo Maresca on Savinho
Maresca reported a fit squad other than the above, with rookie Ryan McAidoo (shoulder) sitting out the last two friendlies but now back with the group.
“The only one is Ryan McAidoo. As you know, in pre-season, he had a small problem but he has already worked with us. So, everyone is fit, knowing that some of them just arrived two days ago.” – Enzo Maresca
As Maresca said above, some City players have only just joined up for pre-season training after post-World Cup breaks.
It’s not just Haaland who hasn’t seen any pre-season friendly action; Nico O’Reilly, Marc Guehi, Jeremy Doku, Rayan Cherki and Elliot Anderson are yet to kick a ball, too.
