Romelu Lukaku looks primed to return for Everton’s weekend tie against Burnley. Callum McManaman’s reserve outing provides a timely boost for West Brom, while there’s mixed news on the fitness of Newcastle United’s injured duo. Elsewhere, Palace hope to welcome back Jordon Mutch and Frazier Campbell, and Stoke are optimistic that Victor Moses will feature again this season.

Lukaku poised for weekend comeback

Romelu Lukaku trained with the Everton first team on Tuesday and is expected to recover from his hamstring injury in time for Saturday’s visit of Burnley. Toffees boss Roberto Martinez also revealed that Leon Osman – who’s suffering from a soft tissue problem in his groin – has a chance of being passed fit for the weekend:

“Rom is training today with the group and I would expect him to be fully fit for Saturday. Last Saturday he wanted to be involved but it was a real risk in terms of where the injury was. But he’s been working really well with the medical department and probably now we’ve got the green light to allow him to join the group. If he trains and doesn’t get any reaction over the next few days then clearly he will be fully fit and available for the next six games, which is exactly what we want. With Leon, we’re really pleased with the scans and it’s a soft tissue problem that, knowing Leon, maybe he’s got an opportunity to make it for Saturday.”

The Scout Says: Prior to being sidelined through injury, Lukaku had turned in some of his finest displays of the season. From mid-February onwards, the Belgian racked up eight goals and three assists in nine appearances across all competitions and started to finally look back in form after a barren first few months. The Toffees host Burnley on the back of three wins and a draw in their last four and with four home fixtures in the final six (BUR, MUN, avl, SUN, whm, TOT), Lukaku, at 8.7 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), may yet have a part to play in our run-ins.

McManaman impresses in warm-up ahead of Eagles tie

Callum McManaman clocked 62 minutes of pitch time during West Bromwich Albion’s defeat on penalties against Nuneaton Town in the Birmingham Senior Cup. The English winger was said to have been “lively throughout” by the club’s official site.

The Scout Says: Although the Baggies’ defence will be Tony Pulis’ primary concern in light of shipping 10 goals in the previous three encounters, five strikes in seven outings suggests their offense could also do with a boost. McManaman might not be famed for his goalscoring prowess (ten in 79 appearances for Wigan), but his propensity for beating a man would add an extra dimension to a side that deployed midfielders James Morrison and Craig Gardner on the flanks against Leicester City. Between them, they attempted three dribbles and completed just two against the Foxes, whereas McManaman’s 57-minute stint against Swansea City yielded eight attempted and four successful dribbles. A return to action at Selhurst Park on Saturday could see Pulis revert to the 4-2-3-1 he employed against the Swans, with Gardner dropping out and a three of McManaman, Saido Berahino and James Morrison playing behind central striker Brown Ideye.

Contrasting fortunes for Magpies duo

Reports indicate that Newcastle United starlet Rolando Aarons has suffered a fresh hamstring injury that rules him out of the remainder of the season. Meanwhile, head coach John Carver said that summer signing Siem de Jong – who’s been sidelined with a collapsed lung – is poised to feature in the Magpies’ Under 21s fixture against Derby County on Wednesday night but is unlikely to be available when Tottenham Hotspur visit on Sunday.

We’ve got a reserve game tomorrow night, and Siem de Jong will definitely play in that.

The Scout Says: Having slumped to their fifth successive defeat, the Toon are in dire need of any sort of catalyst to kickstart their floundering campaign. With two goals in five appearances in all competitions before succumbing to injury, Aarons – with his searing pace and capable finishing – could’ve been just that. De Jong, however, also possesses the potential to reignite Newcastle’s attack. The Tyneside outfit have recorded a solitary goal in their last five matches and are clearly suffering from the long-term ban Papiss Cisse picked up in Gameweek 28, so could profit from the inclusion of support forward De Jong – who netted an average of one goal in three matches for Ajax – for a home clash against Swansea in Gameweek 34.

Potters refuse to rule Moses out for season

Stoke City are hopeful that can Victor Moses can recover from the hamstring injury he sustained against West Ham United on Saturday before the season is out. The former Palace winger returned to parent club Chelsea to receive treatment.

The Scout Says: Moses recorded two goals in four starts from Gameweek 26 to 29 and looked to be rediscovering the kind off attacking flair that attracted numerous suitors during his spell at Palace. As transpired in the Hammers encounter last weekend, Moses’ absence could pave the way for Mame Biram Diouf to slot back into the starting line-up for Southampton’s visit next Gameweek as the lone striker, with Jonathan Walters – who was fielded up front last week – dropping back to the right flank in a 4-2-3-1 set-up. Mark Hughes will be tempted to keep faith in Mark Arnautovic, though; handed a second start in seven, the Austrian’s late leveller at West Ham served up a ten-point return, his highest of the season.

Palace hopeful on Souare as duo plot return

Crystal Palace are optimistic that left-back Pape Souare can shake off a dead leg in time to feature against West Brom on Saturday. Elsewhere in the Eagles camp, Fraizer Campbell and Jordon Mutch could also be back in contention for the Baggies clash after recuperating from hamstring complaints.

The Scout Says: Considering Souare has logged just three starts since a January move to Selhurst Park and the competent Martin Kelly waits in the wings to reclaim the berth, the Senegalese defender’s absence seems of little consequence. Certainly, with a single clean sheets in 12 under Alan Pardew, few, if any, will be considering the Palace backline. Further up the field, given that the Eagles are experiencing a rich vein of form – winning four matches on the bounce – Campbell and Mutch will struggle to forge a way back into the starting XI, with weekend bench roles looking the obvious outcome.

I brought Remy in for Austin last week and regret it,

Fabregas is safer, will start both probably in DGW, and will prob get at least an assist... whereas is Remy is an unknown,

    --------------------------------------

    A) Is it worth doing something like Remy and Sanchez to Fabregas and Murray for free this GW? It will mean next GW i need to take hits to get 3x Liv Players.....

    B) OR should i just stick with Remy, do Sanchez to Bolassie, and then next week do Dawson, Kane and Eriksen to Skrtel, Henderson/Sterling and Studge (if fit) ?

    Thanks All

    Liverpools away stats.
The last 4 away matches they have scored a total of 4 goals.
The 15 away matches they have had this season they have scored a total of 20 goals.

Based on this, the estimated number of goals Liverpool will get over the DGW are between 2 or 3.
It could be smart to think about this before we double or even tripple up on their attacking assets.

I think Henderson is a must have due to price, but not sure Sterling, or even Coutinho, besides him are worth it.

First half of season not relevant for Liverpool stats.

This. A 3rd not worth a hit imo (if you can get a 3rd for free I'd still do it), Hendo most consistent option and on most set pieces, already have a stacked defence so don't have room for a defender, so I'll get Mignolet

this is true, similar footballing philosophies.

We do have €120m knocking around unspent, unfortunately there is a lot of disagreement over whether any should be spent on players or whether we should just promote from the youth teams

An era coming to an end by the looks of it. Don't blame him tbh.

As to where, I have no idea. Cannot see any of BR, Wenger, LVG or Mou leaving. City the only one but I'd be surprised if Klopp went there, plus I think there's some acknowledgement from City that not all the blame rests with Pellegrini.

Could see him in Spain or Italy or possibly even taking a season out.

most will be able to get 3 CHE 3 LIV with a hit or two.

The advantage WCers will have is they can take a good punt in GW33, and in 34 plan the rest of the team to gear towards GW37.

If it's a dud, it affects all active players. But WCers have the benefit of a 4 GW plan til end of season.

3 by GW37, definitely Giroud, probably Ramsey, not sure on the 3rd. Likely Sanchez, but may actually go for Ospina so I don't have to play Myhill for his poor fixtures.

I may only get 2. Ramsey and Giroud.

The third could potentially be Ozil (Sanchez two expensive), but with a midfield of Hazard, Silva, Hendo, Ramsey and Boyd by then, not sure I'll want to get rid of Hendo who I'll just have brought in.

That leaves Ospina, I could get him in for Panti but not sure it's worth it as my other keeper is Mignolet who has a good fixture in 37

I don't think so considering it's not due to the manager that De Gea played so well, and his management up until Spurs was dreadful.

Thrashed by MK Dons, stupid 5 at the back, playing Blind and Carrick in midfield, Rooney in midfield, 2 up top, not using Herrera, not using Mata, and all with the most expensively assembled squad in PL history.

Yeh, they were getting results, mainly due to De Gea (nothing to do with LvG), but they didn't have a single good game up until that Spurs game.

They are getting good results now because of injuries. Without the injuries, of the entire 11 that's done well, the only players who'd actually be playing in their positions would be Young, Fellaini, Carrick, Jones.

If United beat Chelsea and continue to win every game between now and the end of the season I think performances like that can trump the mistakes made early on. With LVG he made his mistakes at the start, now he isn't making any.

This. The amount of money and talent of players he has are ridiculously good, and he hasn't managed them well at all IMO. No way would I consider him for manager of the year based only on their league position now compared to last year. It's hardly all down to him.

        Has to be Koeman.

    4. Doolittle

Koeman and Dyche would have to be up there. I don't think there are really any stand out candidates this year.

The issue with Van Gaal is that his best team seems to consist of players he didn't bring in/didn't play at the start of the season. He spent huge money on ADM and Falcao, both now sat on the bench, and didn't play Herrera and Mata when it was blindingly obvious he should be. Bearing in mind how poor City and Liverpool have largely been, 3rd with that squad should be absolute minimum.

Pardew did just okay at Newcastle. People think he did amazing because Newcastle are really struggling under Carver, but Carver has lost Coloccini and Cisse to suspension, Dummet, Haidara, Tiote, Aarons to injury, which has made his job (as poor manager anyway) impossible.

      no way VG deserves it.

Utd have been playing well the last month, they were extremely lucky to get the wins they did when earlier in the season, they were playing awful football and DDG literally defied logic and stats with the saves he was making. the mount of unforced errors they conceded to the amount their opponents took advantage of were near impossible odds. Yet it happened.

Also they have the most expensive squad, last year Moyes was equalling VG for most of the season with a battered squad.

and the only reason they are so high up the table is the rest of teams around them have been struggling.

just feel it's very unfair the negativity Moyes got last year and now all of a sudden VG is being considered for manager of the year? and he had no Europe to worry about and got knocked out of cups early on.

Well going by what some people expected from Arsenal, I'd say he has 😉 I think the style of football is coming together really nicely and some of his players are improving leaps and bounds. The Champions League is the big issue but then again no team did well so they may not even count that.

Problem with this is the fact that our squad is very strong, so it hasn't been an exceptional season in terms of management.

Starting the season with 1 centre back was ridiculous, and he stumbled into Coquelin, after once again neglecting defensive midfield.

I think a manager should be judged in terms of the potential of the team, and I'm not convinced any of the top teams have done well this season.

Alright, you've all talked me into it.

Koeman. I think our recent relative slump has undermined his overall successes.

Predicted to fight it out around the relegation zone. We'll probably finish 10 places higher than many predicted.
      - We made a summer transfer window profit.
      - We have already matched our record points total for a PL season.
      - We will likely finish the highest we ever have in the PL era.
      - We have one of the best defences in the league.
      - He managed to arrest the December slump and make us competitive again. How many teams have you seen crash and burn after threatening the top 4? (a la West Ham)

      Honourable mentions: Dyche, Wenger.

you have the best defence in the league in terms of goals conceded.

if you signed a goal scorer you could challenge top4 next season. the lack of goals towards the end of the season has been a killer blow. Pelle has been great at hold up play and as a team player, but that new role put in a dent in the goals scored with pressure being on the mids to get goals.

who do you expect to leave over the summer?

Pellé was an upgrade on Lambert, Alderweireld is a fantastic player that can't break into the most solid defence in Europe and was an upgrade on Lovren, Tadic was an adequate replacement of Lallana and Bertrand is definitely not a downgrade on Shaw. Sure you might say this is hindsight talking as Lambert, Lovren, Lallana and Shaw have under performed massively at their respective clubs but Southampton were never relegation fodder when considering they had also padded their depth and upgraded positions with Mané and Forster.

      No !!!

Adding 150m odd worth of talent to already the most expensive squad in the league to fail in all the cups and get from 7th to 3rd playing rubbish football is not manager of the year stuff

Also the recent performances could be argued that they have done this against woefully out of form teams
City have lost 4 in 6 , Spurs not won for a few games & Liverpool were smashed for 4 the following week

So no , not even close

Funny because on here before Spurs, Pool and City games there were people predicting they would beat United.

Don't get me wrong, I don't believe LVG will get it or deserve it to be honest but I definitely won't take away from him his record against the big teams which has been pretty damn good overall. Go back 4 weeks before this run of fixtures when everyone was saying United would struggle to get CL with their upcoming matches.

Shouldn't he also be cut some lack, being new to the league and the fact his "methods" take time to sink in. Started slowly at many of his previous clubs didn't he? Not saying this is why he deserves it, just giving a reason as to why he didn't start off like a train.

Maybe next year is a better time to judge him, now that he's fully changed the players style into how he wants.

Koeman it's more the set up ,but certainly a case
      Dyche , nothing spectacular
      Pardew , not long enough
      Wenger , even 2nd & cup would be 2nd

Sean Dyche if Burnley stay up, especially with the minimal resources he's had.

Pardew if he can keep Palaces form going until the end of the season (a la Pulis last year)

      100% has to be Koeman.

Tipped for relegation and hes turned them into top 4 contenders with the best defensive record in the league.

Definitely not LVG. After his spend last summer, finishing top four was a minimum target. Yes 2nd looks good, but in reality his team has never been in the race for the title.

My vote would go to Koeman - had to rebuild, bought good players who generally hit the ground running and has exceeded expectations.

I've also been quietly impressed with Gary Monk, despite selling his best player he has still kept Swansea in a decent position.

Definetely not LvG. The players and formation found him and not the other way round I fancy. He got lucky with the RvP injury meaning Rooney had to play up front. Sticking Rooney in midfield and claiming you had no mids in that position ( a fit Herrera/Mata) was bonkers. A bit of a charlatan has-been IMO.

LVG not a worthy candidate. Although I think the way Utd are playing now is down to him and not down to fortuitously falling upon a good team due to injuries/suspension. He just made a few too many poor decisions at the start of the season and although I don't like referring to the money, it can't really be ignored.

      Dyche or Koeman.

LVG has been utter shite. If they finish second it will be complete luck. As wilshere said above they were absolutely awful for a large portion of the season, somehow grinding out results. Man U started clicking when their team was decimated with injuries and LVG finally realized Rooney is not a midfielder and Mata is class. Were it not for these injuries Utd would be happy with a Europa spot.

Not LVG. You have to take into account the money spent and challenging for the title should be the minimum expected and there has been no trophy either.
I'd give it to Dyche if Burnley stay up. Koeman has had to rebuild a team and done very well so I'd put him second. I'd also throw Pardew's hat in the ring. If Pulis can win it with Palace then what Pardew has done in less time deserves a mention.

If I look at my predictions and expectations before the season started, the one who has stretched it the most in a positive direction, is Garry Monk.

Probably wont get it tho, too unfashionable and mid-table to be noticed. Manager of the year probably will have to battle for relegation on economy class, or win something of importance, like the league or a CL place or an empty cup.

But I would still vote for Garry Monk this time.

      Mourinho.

Chelsea's squad still lacks depth and he hasn't had much cash to spend - a net transfer spend of £44m since Mourinho's arrival is small for a club of Chelsea's size and this season there has been a net transfer profit of £5m.

By contrast, United have a net spend of £170m over those 2 seasons, City have spent £150m, Arsenal have spent £97m and Liverpool have spent £58m.

Mourinho's key purchases - Costa and Fabregas - have been a big success. And he has had a squad that still needs strengthening top of the PL since day 1 as well as winning the League Cup. The CL performance was disappointing but Chelsea never lost a game actually - 4 wins, 4 draws and eliminated on away goals.

That's a manager of the season performance.

Ignoring the HUGE Man United Bias, both for and against. There is only one manager that could be manager of the season.

Pullis won it last year for keeping a team up. Mr Pardew has effectively kept 2 teams up this season.

Newcastle are dreadful and he did a great job getting them to near safety before he left and now he's saved Palace.

If it's swayed towards high positioning, Koeman would be the shout.
