Daniel Sturridge is ruled out of the weekend visit to the Hawthorns. Per Mertesacker remains “50/50” for Arsenal’s clash with leaders Chelsea. Spurs look set to welcome back Hugo Lloris in goal against Southampton, who could have Toby Alderweireld back fit and available, whilst Aston Villa receive mixed news in defence.

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Daniel Sturridge will miss the trip to the Hawthorns and is uncertain when the forward is expected to return. Lucas and Sakho also remain on the sidelines for the Baggies trip, though there is more positive news on Adam Lallana and Jon Flanagan, with the pair set to be monitored after returning to training ahead of the weekend.

Per Mertesacker is “50/50” to play against Chelsea after picking up an ankle injury in the FA Cup against Reading. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain continues to be unavailable for selection, while Mikel Arteta is back in full training, and edging closer to a return, though remains short of match sharpness to feature this weekend.

David Nugent remains a doubt with the calf complaint picked up during the warm-up prior to last week’s win over Swansea. Nigel Pearson has also confirmed Marcin Wasilewski will continue to be monitored after he was forced off at the break in the 2-0 victory due to a leg problem.

Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is close to being available for the weekend, having made a return to training. Kyle Walker remains sidelined for Spurs, though everyone else is available for selection, confirms Pochettino.

Saints boss Ronald Koeman has delivered a positive update on Toby Alderweireld, after the Belgian was stretchered off in the loss to Stoke. Koeman has confirmed that Alderweireld trained yesterday, and “if there is no reaction, he will be fit for Saturday”. Filip Djuricic remains sidelined by an ankle injury, while the Saints are again without Victor Wanyama who serves the final game of a two-match suspension.

Jordan Mutch and Chung-Yong Lee have stepped up their recoveries from injury and could be in line to make the Eagles bench against Hull. Marouane Chamakh and Frazier Campbell have also made a return to training, but the weekend will come too soon for the forward pair.

Chris Ramsey has admitted that Rio Ferdinand is nursing an injury but hopes to have the defender back before the end of the season. Yun is available after recovering from a recent head injury, while Leroy Fer is also back in contention for the R’s and will be on the bench “at the very least”, according to Ramsey.

Tim Sherwood has confirmed that both Philippe Senderos and Aly Cissokho will make a return to the Villa squad, having shaken off recent injuries. Sherwood also hopes that Gabby Agbonlahor will recover from a hamstring injury in time to face the champions, though is confident that the forward will be fit to face Everton the following weekend, should Saturday come too soon. Nathan Baker has been ruled out with a knee injury, and will be assessed on a week-to-week basis, however Ciaran Clark could be set to miss the rest of the season with a knee ligament injury picked up against Spurs. Elsewhere, Alan Hutton is making good progress on his foot injury and will continue to be monitored as he steps up his recovery.

Guy Demel has picked up a calf injury and looks set to miss out at the weekend, with Sam Allardyce also confirming that the Hammers have the same injury list as last week.

Newcastle have received a boost with head coach Chris Carver confirming that both Jonas Gutierrez and Siem de Jong will return against Swansea this weekend. The Argentine was left out of last week’s squad after a training ground bust-up with the Magpies boss.

Andrew Robertson and Curtis Davies have both been ruled out of Hull’s trip to Palace by Steve Bruce earlier this morning. The Tigers boss also conceded that Mo Diame isn’t 100% after swelling returned to his ongoing knee problem, though the midfielder will still be part of the weekend squad.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

    Injury transfer conundrum

Should Remy still be a doubt this weekend he would represent one of my worst transfers this season, managing not a single minute in the two to three weeks I've owned him. Those that drafted in Daniel Sturridge recently will know how frustrating such transfers can be.

Who has been your worst ever injury transfer in? And what to do to improve the situation? Is it worth Remy owners cutting their losses and taking a hit to remove him, or hold firm and hope they get back on the pitch?

Depends who you have on the bench. I've got Bolasie so it's arguably not worth a hit to shift Remy to Vardy who I'd get rid of for Giroud next week anyway.

Remy is the worst drafted in player so far.
Unless ruled out I will hold.
If he goes it will most likely be to Benteke. Don't fancy playing Vardy or benching Giroud.

          i'm with you.

And I bought Giroud that week for Dzeko, having kept Dzeko on the bench the previous week. And the week before that, I had brought Dzeko in for a hit only for him to get injured in the warm up.

I got Giroud in and captained him just for him to headbutt someone and get sent off. At least injuries don't get you minus points.

Yeah, I was also stung with the Grioud (c) v QPR minus four! Was made worse by the fact that I took out Costa to bring him in who got > 10 points vs West Ham iirc.

I also have Remy for the current debacle but will get rid after this week and having someone who doesn't play is nowhere near as bad as negative points.

If Remy can play a part vs Leicester, I dont want to take a hit to remove him. This is the juicy fixture. I could see 0-0 against Arsenal as that result would suit Jose.

He goes for Giroud in 35 or 36

Studge is always an injury waiting to happen so I have no sympathy with those who gamble with him.

Worst injury transfer was Milner when he had a dgw and got injured in the first 21 minutes.

Gw8 I brought in Sturridge very early on the Saturday night. A gamble I was forced into due to his impending price rise. Fast forward to the Friday night before the games and news came in very late that he was injured, needless to say I was fuming and had a bit of a meltdown on the site if truth be told. I calmed myself down and had a look how I could get out of this mess. Aguero looked a good option but it would mean downgrading a midfielder so I could afford him. I looked at all the options but none stood out so I turned to the watch list and a certain Mr Tadic sat on top. Dear God I thought, if it has to be him then so be it. The rest as they say, is history.
So there you go, sometimes a bad transfer can turn into a great one, if you get ridiculously lucky like me, blundering my way to the top 10k without much skill involved on the way 😀

I was deciding between Özil and Tadic earlier this season, decided to buy Özil before the international break, he got injured the next day and Tadic scored 23pts in the following GW.

I transferred in Naughton and Remy consecutively in the past couple of gameweeks. They were meant to address a poor squad for 33 and enable me to save transfers for 34. Because I opted to shift Remy straight away and needed to replace Naughton to field 11, it basically turned a planned -4 into a -12 for the double game week due to the need for 11 in GW33 and 3 Chelsea players in 34.

I also had the Giroud (C) red card fail over Christmas who I transferred in for Rooney then scored a brace Vs. Newcastle. I don't think I'll ever make a worse move than that.

Ironically, although I transferred Remy in 2 GWs back and played 0 minutes for my team, he was one of the keys to my recent success in my ML.
In the first week, my main rival had the armband on him (while I put it on Kane - 2 points) and that worked out well for me.
In the second week, Remy out meant Dawson came off the bench with 6 points.
At the same time, my rival had no subs available.
I still own him, but not sure what to do if he's again doubtful.

I bought naughton gw1, red card. So i transferred him for Chester gw2. Red card.

Sturridge this year right next to Naughton who got injured before he could have that cleanie.

You're telling me I don't have this name for nothing!

I can't really recall another situation like this, any other player and I would have been shot of him by now. His injury pre QPR was totally out of the blue then I kept him because Jose talked up his chances and now he's actually been ruled out.
All forward planning gone out the window.

Can't really do much about it apart from hoping Kane goes rampant now!

    A) Rose
    B) Pva

Worth another -4 for a LEIC defender? I am already at -8 and would then need to bench Clyne

Not in my opinion, just play Clyne

      depends,
if you are already loaded up on chelsea and liverpool, and don't have any leicester defensive coverage then why not. If you already have a leicester defender, then no.

Team good to go for the DGW?? would be a -8 hit

    Schmeichel*
    Bertrand/Ivan*/Bellerin
    Hendo*/Haz(C)*/Sterling*/Fab*/Coutinho*
    Vardy*/Aguero

    Foster/Kane/Fonte/PVA 2.1itb

Thoughts on this possible WC team!

    Kasper
    Clyne. Ivan. Skrtel
    Haz. Fab. Sterling. Hendo. Cambiasso
    Aguero. Vardy

    Subs. Panti. Kane. Duff. PvA

Funds to do vardy > giroud next week.
