Daniel Sturridge is ruled out of the weekend visit to the Hawthorns. Per Mertesacker remains “50/50” for Arsenal’s clash with leaders Chelsea. Spurs look set to welcome back Hugo Lloris in goal against Southampton, who could have Toby Alderweireld back fit and available, whilst Aston Villa receive mixed news in defence.

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Daniel Sturridge will miss the trip to the Hawthorns and is uncertain when the forward is expected to return. Lucas and Sakho also remain on the sidelines for the Baggies trip, though there is more positive news on Adam Lallana and Jon Flanagan, with the pair set to be monitored after returning to training ahead of the weekend.

Per Mertesacker is “50/50” to play against Chelsea after picking up an ankle injury in the FA Cup against Reading. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain continues to be unavailable for selection, while Mikel Arteta is back in full training, and edging closer to a return, though remains short of match sharpness to feature this weekend.

David Nugent remains a doubt with the calf complaint picked up during the warm-up prior to last week’s win over Swansea. Nigel Pearson has also confirmed Marcin Wasilewski will continue to be monitored after he was forced off at the break in the 2-0 victory due to a leg problem.

Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is close to being available for the weekend, having made a return to training. Kyle Walker remains sidelined for Spurs, though everyone else is available for selection, confirms Pochettino.

Saints boss Ronald Koeman has delivered a positive update on Toby Alderweireld, after the Belgian was stretchered off in the loss to Stoke. Koeman has confirmed that Alderweireld trained yesterday, and “if there is no reaction, he will be fit for Saturday”. Filip Djuricic remains sidelined by an ankle injury, while the Saints are again without Victor Wanyama who serves the final game of a two-match suspension.

Jordan Mutch and Chung-Yong Lee have stepped up their recoveries from injury and could be in line to make the Eagles bench against Hull. Marouane Chamakh and Frazier Campbell have also made a return to training, but the weekend will come too soon for the forward pair.

Chris Ramsey has admitted that Rio Ferdinand is nursing an injury but hopes to have the defender back before the end of the season. Yun is available after recovering from a recent head injury, while Leroy Fer is also back in contention for the R’s and will be on the bench “at the very least”, according to Ramsey.

Tim Sherwood has confirmed that both Philippe Senderos and Aly Cissokho will make a return to the Villa squad, having shaken off recent injuries. Sherwood also hopes that Gabby Agbonlahor will recover from a hamstring injury in time to face the champions, though is confident that the forward will be fit to face Everton the following weekend, should Saturday come too soon. Nathan Baker has been ruled out with a knee injury, and will be assessed on a week-to-week basis, however Ciaran Clark could be set to miss the rest of the season with a knee ligament injury picked up against Spurs. Elsewhere, Alan Hutton is making good progress on his foot injury and will continue to be monitored as he steps up his recovery.

Guy Demel has picked up a calf injury and looks set to miss out at the weekend, with Sam Allardyce also confirming that the Hammers have the same injury list as last week.

Newcastle have received a boost with head coach Chris Carver confirming that both Jonas Gutierrez and Siem de Jong will return against Swansea this weekend. The Argentine was left out of last week’s squad after a training ground bust-up with the Magpies boss.

Andrew Robertson and Curtis Davies have both been ruled out of Hull’s trip to Palace by Steve Bruce earlier this morning. The Tigers boss also conceded that Mo Diame isn’t 100% after swelling returned to his ongoing knee problem, though the midfielder will still be part of the weekend squad.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

    Already on -4 for the week with 6 DGW players (3 Che, 2 Pool, 1 Lei). Any of these worth a further hit?

    A.) Silva > Henderson -4?

        Well when you look at the state of the championships in Europe where you know Bayern will win, Real/Barcelona will win, Juventus will win theirs before the season even starts, it paints the picture of the rich, plus UEFA loves the publicity. PL is the only surprise we should expect and even there Chelsea/City are getting favourites for long now.

      Pep is an overrated manager that has never built a team. Twice he has inherited almost inevitable success.

      In the C19th there was a well-known gentleman in London who gained a reputation for being able to influence the outcomes of trials. He was often seen in attendance at court when a defendant was acquitted. Pretty soon people were paying him to help them. He didn't always accept but when he did they were often exonerated too. He made quite a pile of money from his "influence".

      It turned out after he died that he had nothing to do with the trial outcomes whatsoever although he was well connected in the legal world. He had just started by attending court when he thought an unexpected acquittal was on the cards. People then assumed he had an influence. After that he only agreed to "help" people when he judged they had a very good chance to get off anyway and on the understanding that he couldn't guarantee anything.

      So Guardiola.

        He took a declining Barcelona and a very young Lionel Messi and worked them to be arguably the best club side ever (Barcelona 2011) and best footballer ever.

        1. Ruth_NZ
          • 11 Years

          At Barcelona he inherited probably the greatest cluster of midfield talent there has ever been at one club (Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta, Messi plus Yaya Toure who he used primarily as a defender). All at (or coming into) their prime. Without those players Tiki-Taka couldn't exist.

          At Bayern he inherited a team that had just won the UCL, BL and DFBP treble and had already agreed the signing of Goetze (and unofficially Lewandowski too).

          He has never built a team.

            I agree. Though he did have a decent managerial spell with Barca B, getting them promoted, he has inherited great teams with great players.

            Especially the Barcelona midfield cluster, and we're forgetting players like Ronaldinho and Deco who were there as well.

            This. Kind of glad I don't have a WC so don't get sucked into similar moves.

        Cambiasso & Vardy very much in form, playing all out for survival, and Kasper for the save points. #Smart.

    Schmeichel Myhill

    Gw 36 Henderson & JT > Sanchez & Koscielny
    GW 37 Vardy > Defoe
    GW 38 Defoe > Vardy

    With no injuries how does that sound?

        I've had sanchez all season, so won't be able to afford to bring him back. Was think Ramsey might be as good?

    Myhill/ Foster

    Bertie N.Taylor Dawson Cresswell Monreal

    Ramsey Hazard Eriksen Boyd Puncheon

    Kane Remy Aguero

    2FT. 1.0 ITB.

    Doubts over Remy, but will wait for Mourinhos presser, not that he will give much away.

    Eriksen --> Coutinho
    Foster --> Mignolet
    Bertrand --> Terry
    Remy --> Vardy

    For -8, not much to play for at this stage but rank really, too far behind in ML to catch leader, he still has WC as well.

    Any other options?

    Who are the 3 Arsenal players you'll be picking for GW 37?

    (Tired of DGW34 TALK)

    Alexis
    Ramsey
    Giroud

      Same but I probably cant afford those 3.

      May opt for Kos instead of Ramsey

      Giroud
      Alexis

      The 3rd is the last decision of my WC.

      Ospina or Ramsey. Ospina should play both games with almost perfect opposition for cleansheets - Ramsey is the risk/reward as I see it. Possible rotation but higher potential scores.

      It's going to annoy me all day 🙂

        Should clarify, I'm looking at hul SWA SUN WBA when I mention cleansheets, seeing as I'd get them in now on WC. Not just the double.

          I wouldn't say United away is a good game for a CS. Could be goals at both ends meaning an Arsenal attacker is more suited

      Alexis and Giroud for certain and then either Koscielny, Ramsey or Ozil for the last spot depending on funds.

    Gtg?

    Schmeichel (Myhill)
    Skrtl, Wolly, Betrand, (Toby, Zouma)
    Hazard, Coutinho, Hendo, Sanchez, Walters
    Aguero, Vardy, (Kane)

    Is Zouma worth a punt?

    Should I bench Walters instead of Kane?

    Panti/Krul

    Azpi/Cresswell/Skrtel/Duff/Bellerin

    Silva/Bentaleb/Hazard/Sanchez/Sterling

    Giroud/Auston/Kane

    4.0 INB

    Austin>Vardy
    Kane>Vardy
    Giroud>Vardy dont have FT

        Austin to Vardy...Vardy's more likely to get points than Cambiasso. Also, Kane and Giround are more likely to score points than Austin in the remaining matches.
