More bad news for Arsene Wenger as surgery rules Thomas Vermaelen out for two months. A hamstring strain makes Theo Walcott a doubt for England’s game with Wales, while Andrei Arshavin has his say on the Emirates transfers over the summer. Joseph Yobo joins the Everton exodus and heads for old club Fenerbache and Hatim Ben Arfa returns to first-team training for Newcastle. Here’s this morning’s Scribbles:

Only a day after Jack Wilshere was ruled out for a further three months due to an ankle problem, Arsene Wenger has been dealt another bitter injury blow. This morning has brought the news that Thomas Vermaelen had surgery on his left Achilles yesterday and will be out of action for two months. Vermaelen was out for virtually all of last season due to a problem with his right Achilles and Wenger will be hoping the same scenario doesn’t apply here. Per Mertersacker’s presence at the heart of the Gunners back-four will be even more significant in light of this news.

There’s more injury worry for the Arsenal boss- reports indicate Theo Walcott is struggling with a hamstring strain. The winger may be forced out of England’s midweek match with Wales and Fantasy managers will have concerns over this one- he’s looked in great form of late and has Swansea at home this weekend.

Andrei Arshavin has been having his say on the Gunners summer of player exits. The Russian is quoted to have described the loss of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasr as “a catastrophe” and is of the opinion that Arsenal’s style of play is bound to change as a result:

” We have no-one so comfortable with passing the ball to Robin van Persie or who ideally utilises the qualities of the other forwards. With Arteta or whoever replaces those who have left, we will play different football, not as we played with Cesc and Samir.

Arteta and Benayoun have long proved themselves in the Premier League, they’re not bad signings. And we needed strengthening in those positions. Perhaps another holding midfielder wouldn’t hurt and, as far as I know, we were trying till the last minute to get M’Vila, but unfortunately we weren’t able to buy him.

Judging by the quantity and quality of our signings, Arsenal’s football will soon undergo some changes.

Micah Richards has given Roberto Mancini an injury boost ahead of this weekend’s home game with Wigan. The right-back limped out of the England squad with a hamstring twinge but has already started light training back with Man City and reckons he’ll be fit for the match against the Latics:

I felt a bit of tightness in the hamstring and it is not something I want to take any chances with. I missed some games last season with a similar problem and thought it best to be as cautious as possible. I have had the injury looked at and I am confident I will be available for the Wigan game at the weekend.

Everton’s Joseph Yobo has joined former club Fenerbache on a season-long loan. The centre half has been a somewhat peripheral figure in recent times for David Moyes’ side and his move is another step in easing the Toffees crippling debts.

The Sunderland future of Asamoah Gyan continues to look uncertain. Galatasaray failed in a loan-deal attempt before the closure of the Turkish transfer window last night and Marseille have claimed he was offered to them last week. The Ghanaian has been linked with Spurs and admitted yesterday:

“It is normal to be excited when a club such as Tottenham is interested, however I have a contract somewhere and I intend to honour that.”

Hatim Ben Arfa has returned to first-team training with Newcastle. Given the Frenchman’s appalling luck with injuries since his move to St James’ Park last season, Newcastle are unwilling to put a date on his likely comeback and will continue to monitor his progress

Reports suggest Wolves are looking to snap up James McFadden. The player is a free agent after his contract at Birmingham ended and Mick McCarthy is rumoured to be eyeing up the Scot as he looks to provide competition for Matt Jarvis and Stephen Hunt out wide.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

All or nothing approach with regards to wc team

    Vorm Krul
Bos Warnock Gabbidon De Laet Simpson
    Nasri Silva Arteta Dyer Barkley
    RVP Roon Dzeko

Long term plan to Dzeko-Ade and oe of Nasri or Silva to chelsea (mata or meireles) depedning how next few fixtures go.

If Ars, manc and manu kill it I will be quids in if they fail however. Oh dear

No depth. You'll struggle if you get a couple injuries. Don't rate Barkley or Dyer's chances of getting many points this season. Don't see QPR or Norwich keeping many clean sheets either.

It's only one shit defender a week and so far thats been the way forward. Barkley is a two match punt then will look to upgrade on back of Dzeko to Adebayor. Like I say its a risky strategy but if those three teams hit it then I should climb

    My team:
    Given Vorm
    Baines Komapny Enrique Senderos Simpson
A Young Silva Sessegnon Moses Ferguson
    Rooney Dzeko Holt

I`ve got 2.5 M in the bank, and one free transfer.

    Do:

Sessegnon -> Walcott or Brunt or SWP
    or
    Senderos -> De Laet

    Ferguson -> Dyer

Has to be an upgrade of ur midfield for me Sess to Walcott is a good call just to get Arsenal coverage in. Senderos out can wait as can Ferguson out likley when Baines fixtures tighten up and u can downgrade him and upgrade elsewhere

Going back to earlier comments on Ferguson... I have him right now just because of the extra 0.5 I will get for the rest of the team assuming I wont ever need a 3rd sub unless its another weekend of snowed out fixtures ala last year. All the other teams I had there was always a 4.5 midfielder that I hoped would never play or Moses and a cheaper 3rd striker and at present I am preferring 3 big name strikers.

There seems dismissal of it with having one less player to use/rotate with. Are there any others who feel Ferguson helps them get the 11 or 14 they really want??

Nope, with a budget of 100m it doesn't come down to 0.5m for me to get the team I want.

I think Ferguson will cost his owners points at times when they'll need their third sub, and also in point hits they might be forced to take at every possible injury/loss of form as they know they won't have enough cover.

agree. You're not fielding 14 players. If you're confident the other 13 will almost always be picked when fit you can plan around ferguson. If you keep a 4.5m bench warmer, he could come in and just score 2pts anyway.

All it takes is a ban, an injury and a rotation and you'll be needing that 3rd sub. Later in the season there's FA Cup matches to worry about (although that's after the Jan wildcard) - in the later rounds (quarters onwards, maybe?) FA Cup matches take place on a Premier League weekends.

My view is that my 4.5 will play in rotation with my other 6.0 mids.

The problem with Ferguson is not only that he doesn't play, but when you want to make moves, there is no sub you an make without having to free up cash elsewhere.

I'm choosing between Dyer and Johnson for my 4.5, probably will go Johnson who rotates slightly better with Petrov.

I'm gambling on having Ferguson this year. Last year I almost never had the need for my 3rd sub. I also like not having to pick as many players to bench.

Personally I take a lot of points hits anyway so if I look like I can't field 11 I will just take a hit. But if you don't like to take hits then maybe Ferguson isn't for you

If you have .. Rooney - Dzeko - Suarez .. and would like to get RVP in, who would you drop ?

Question is between Dzeko vs Suarez..

    - Dzeko .. could be rotation risk, always in striker position if starts, may not take much part but simply score

    - Suarez .. nailed on if fit, could be employed on the wing, highly influence but may not score

    what do you think ?

Suarez is a more long-term pick, but as you say he could play out wide in certain games with Carroll as the lone front-man. Liverpool don't have the greatest fixtures coming up, either, so short-term I'd say take the risk on Dzeko.

*full disclosure, I have neither of them.

way i see it, Suarez isnt all tht 'must have' so far, Adam Henderson Suarez all look like they are driving this new Liverpool on and as you said can be utilised out on the wing.

Dzeko will be the figurehead for Man City. they have no other player with his ability. granted they have players that are small but i see them as all rotating bigger games. Silva Nasri Aguero Tevez Balotelli Milner can all play behind Dzeko and in front of De Jong Barry Torre. Dzeko gives the team an out ball, different options.

      I'd drop Suarez mate
