As mentioned previously, we’re taking a new approach to the weekly games this season. Armed with an opening pot of £100 for each game, I’ve been tasked with turning that cash into profit and will be updating you on my progress every Friday.

On Tuesday evening, we rolled out our Weekly Shop article, giving you a fair idea of the main targets for my teams this weekend. In addition to the names mentioned, I’m also mulling over Bafetimbi Gomis and Diafra Sakho as alternative forwards, whilst midfield Dusan Tadic, Nacer Chadli and James Milner also have favourable home matches and could yet force their way into my plans.

There are four time frames available this week in PlayON – these are Weekly, Saturday and Sunday Daily games and also the Monday night match. The main weekly competition – that includes all ten matches – has a £1000 guaranteed pot. The daily Saturday games (that do not include the early kick-off between Southampton and Everton), allow teams to be entered up to 3pm. In addition, there are two fixtures in the Sunday timeframe and teams can also be entered for the single match on Monday evening.

The Bottom Line

I had a slow start in the challenge to increase my £100 pot in PlayON last week. One of the tenets of Fantasy Football is that not every week can be a good week, however – mistakes are a chance to learn, improve and attempt other strategies, so onwards and upwards.

Last week’s disappointment left me ruing my decision to enter the £5.50 pots on both Saturday and Sunday. This £11 was 64.7% of the opening week’s stake, which is too much to be risking so early on in the challenge on just two entries. My new approach, a bit less gung-ho, will be to enter the free games and lower-priced entry games attempting to build the pot back up and, if successful, re-evaluate the competitions with higher entries later down the line.

Gameweek 1 Stake – £17
Winnings – £3.15
Current Pot – £86.15 (-£13.85)

This Week’s Stake

Here I run through which contests I’ll be entering and the associated fees. This is subject to change – I may well enter more games but I will update the situation if that happens in the bottom line next time we cover PlayON.

Weekly – There is another £100 free entry game allowing five entries. With 1266 entries last week, I reckon these five teams are an ideal opportunity to go with differentials and left-field punts. Like last week, I’ve entered two more balanced teams into the £100 guaranteed pot for a £1.10 fee. I entered 10 teams into 25p games last week but I’m reining in my spending again and only going with five this time around. There’s also a Fantasy Football Scout league for the community to enter, so I’ve also put a team in there for £1.10.

Daily – For the Saturday and Sunday games rather than the £5.50 contests, I’ve entered two £1 challenges. There’s also a free entry game on Sunday, so five entries go into that for the £25 pot.

Match – Five entries into the £25 free pot game covers the Monday night match between Liverpool and Bournemouth.

Total Stake: £6.85

As a PlayON Pro, it’s possible for you to challenge me one-on-one in all four timeframes. These games are not included in the £100 challenge and operate separately. You can also take on other PlayON Pros, current FPL champion Simon March and OptaJoe.

If you’ve finished tinkering with your Fantasy Premier League team, why not enter the £100 free PlayON game this week.

what is everyone doing with walcott?

my thoughts are that he could start but holding on means 0.1 drop in price is a disaster for my plans to get aguero for gwk4.

IF i transfer walcott out after the deadline i will be making a decision for next week really early without knowing how players played this week. why not transfer him out now and get mane/tadic or payet who have good home fixtures instead.

    help is much appreciated

i would transfer out after the deadline personally if you want rid of him for Aguero anyway. I think Walcott will probably start this week away to Palace

I can't handle either the price drop or waiting another 9 days to see if he will start v Liverpool or not. I do think he will play v Palace, but he is too much of a gamble to keep for a long time.

      Doesnt matter too much.

You can either get rid now.
Get rid after deadline (before price drop) and use next weeks FT.
or you can keep, take a .1 drop and see what happens this weekend.

Alternatively you can look at the hot topics

    Option A: http://imgur.com/RFzOa8t
    OR
    Option B: http://imgur.com/2BK0XCU

The only difference is got rid of Richards, Butland and Henderon -> Oxford, McCarthy and upgraded Henderson to Mane

I also have unlimited transfers since just started this week so any help to my team is appreciated...

Lost a couple of pages back. Keeping my FT and going Sakho captain. Looks solid right?

    Ruddy

    OShea - Merte - Prodl

    Hazard - Mane - Ozil - Sterling

    Sakho(c) - Rooney (vc) - Wilson

    Ruddy
    Azpi - Mert - Targett
    Haz - Ozil - Mane - Mahrez
    Roo - Kun - Wilson

    Rudd - Coates - Huth - Benteleb

    - Field Coates over Wilson or leave as is?

Quick vote on my one decision this week?

    1) Play Targett (EVE)

    2) Play Ivanovic (mci)

    3) Ivanovic > Clyne (BOU) -4

(Context: I think Montero has pretty much ended Ivanovic's career and every half decent winger or wingback in the league will target and punish him until he's dropped for Azpi).

    Thanks

I'm wondering what I should do with my team?

    Bellerin/Clyne/Azpilicueta/Fonte/Baker

I was sure in the past premium keepers had been really expensive. It seemed a modest choice to pick a couple of starters from two big clubs that I can switch between for the clean sheets, in theory anyway. Or so was my thinking. I used to go one premium, one dirt cheap.

In my opinion is it best to go with a weaker team their keeper cause they get more saves which evolves in points and I hope the weaker teams also play more defensive to get CS but its just a theory.

I used to look for smaller clubs that play defensively, pick up good clean sheets for my defence. I wanted to look at Pulls last year but he wasn't working his magic. Maybe he'll turn West Brom around a bit? Who do you like best out of your choices?

    Kane (c) or Mane(c)

Kane is more safe but have that feeling about Mane....help me out here and talk some sense into me

Its the old captaincy conundrum. Do you want a nice 6-8 or willing to risk a 2 to get a 14?

The Oscar news means Wenger will see this as a great chance to gain points over Chelsea, defnitely points to a starting berth for our Theo.

Wenger doesn't give a damn what any other club does. Even when he's playing them...

So many options with Walcott this week. Sell, buy, play, bench, captain, triple captain. I would say the list is endless, but that's the end of the options.

what about bench and all out attack

I said bench. All out attack only concerns dumping a crappy defender.

    Can't decide whether to play;

    Wilson (liv) or Mahrez (whu)

Not sure if Mahrez will score again after his double on Saturday or if Wilson can finally score after his high number of touches in the box at the weekend, any thoughts appreciated?

Need some guidance. I have used my FT this week and after looking at RMT tool for Kane, he seems like a must have for the next 5 GW's. Should I wait till next week to do Benteke -> Kane, do it this week and take -4 point hit, or not do the transfer at all? Got Rooney, Benteke and Sakho.

    Thanks for any help!
