Our pre-Gameweek members article, which focuses on the main captaincy contenders arrives once again this afternoon. As always, we take a three-part approach – the first section will be free for all visitors to the site and will analyse the chief protagonists in our Gameweek Captain Poll, though the latter two parts will be members-only, as we delve deeper into the Opta and Rate My Team projections.

The Captain Poll

With a whopping 58% of the vote, Sergio Aguero is the overwhelming favourite to post a big total this Gameweek. Indeed, the Sky Blues’ home tie against Watford could serve as the perfect platform for the former Atletico Madrid marksman to explode into life this term, following his blank against Everton last weekend. Although the Hornets boast back-to-back clean sheets, they face an entirely more threatening proposition in the league’s form side, who rank joint-first for shots on target (24) and second for big chances (seven). The favourable nature of City’s match-up also finds David Silva and Yaya Toure (both 3%) backed as armband differentials.

Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez is second favourite, way back on 5%. Despite failing to score in two of their three matches so far, Arsenal have tallied more attempts (62) and shots inside the box (42) than any side in the league, which suggests the Chilean will be afforded a host of shooting opportunities at St James’ Park.

Chelsea’s Pedro (4%) takes third spot after his eye-catching debut at the Hawthorns racked up a 13-point return, courtesy of a goal, an assist and maximum bonus. A home clash against Crystal Palace – who have notched just two clean sheet in 21 league matches since Alan Pardew was appointed – could well harvest further returns for the defending champions. Eden Hazard owners will be observing Pedro’s performances closely over the coming weeks, given the Spaniard’s potential to serve as a cheaper route into the Blues’ midfield. Hazard and Diego Costa (3% apiece ) will be looking to push on after both recorded their first attacking returns of the season against the Baggies. The Blues placed second for shots inside the box (10) last Gameweek – despite contending with a one-man disadvantage from the 53rd-minute mark – which bodes well for the Eagles’ visit.

Riyad Mahrez has been tipped by just under 4% of the voters. Leicester City’s man of the moment ranks top of the league’s scoring charts, with four goals in three outings already matching his output from last term. The Algerian international will undoubtedly hit a dry patch at some point, yet with Bournemouth – who conceded three goals against West Ham last weekend – next on the Foxes’ agenda, Mahrez’ burgeoning ownership will be quietly confident.

Further down the list, there’s not much to separate Christian Benteke and Callum Wilson (2% apiece) who had contrasting fortunes in the last round of fixtures. The former spurned a gilt-edge chance to open the scoring against Arsenal, while the latter netted with three of his four attempts at goal. Benteke owners, though, will fancy the Belgian’s chances at home to a Hammers defence that’s been breached six times over the past two Gameweeks. Wilson’s growing throng of admirers will hope for more of the same as the Cherries play host to Leicester.

Wayne Rooney (1%) has plummeted down the Captain’s Poll in the wake of three successive blanks. The 10.4-priced frontman is the most transferred-out Fantasy recruit this week, reflecting the waning faith in his capacity to become a prolific scorer once more. Nonetheless, a hat-trick against Club Brugge in midweek could serve as the catalyst to kick-start his campaign, with a trip to Swansea next up for Manchester United.

Stoke duo Xherdan Shaqiri and Mame Biram Diouf also earn 1% of the votes cast ahead of the home derby with West Brom.

Come up with a fixture sticking point. Two to play out of: Payet/Ayew/Gomis/Kone?

If i do Kompany to Kolarov this week it means having to play Richards next week, as i already planned McCarthy to Ruddy next week (Other keeper being Butland). But i'm willing to settle for that. Kolarov will get a lot more attacking returns than Kompany.

My suggestion would be to use less FTs on defenders and especially GKs.

maybe in the long run, but a defender doesnt normally get any attacking returns in any given game. think it's a fair gamble either way

        Thanks for feedback guys.

But is using a FT on a defender/GK really that hurtful? It's unlikey a player will get injured this week + i have a decent bench who all start?

Why do you want to do McCarthy to Ruddy out of interest? Fixtures or in preparation for him losing his place? (Or both!)

Both. and next week Palace play at home to City and Stoke away to Arsenal and i wouldn't want either keepers to be in my team that week!

Please fill the GAP (Budget: 14.5)

    McCarthy (GAP)
    Kolarov Gomez Francis (GAP) (GAP)

    Currently on Butland, Azpi, Saylor.

Bit afraid of Saylor in case there are some rotation with Gomez.

Repost as the opinion was completely split, would appreciate some more feedback, thanks. I currently have Payet & Pelle. Do I stick or take a -4 hit and swap to:

    A) Wilson & Pedro
    B) Wilson & Coutinho
    C) Benteke & Shaqiri
    D) Diouf & Coutinho

    Or any others? Thanks

Personally, I'd hold fire on jettisoning Payet for a week. Although he didn't return last week, signs were all good. I'm not convinced on Wilson's finishing yet, I can see him being brought off player's benches to return a string of 2s. Pelle to Diouf may work.

Are they good enough transfers to be worth the hit?

The price is a bit high but I really rate him. He's a bit lightweight so might take a bit of time to adjust to the PL. From what I've seen he needs a lot of chances to score but he gets a lot thanks to his pace, movement and dribbling. Spurs have needed pace in attack for a long time, so it's a good signing for you.

    Fabianski - (Schmeichel)
    Kolorov - Gomez - Bellerin - (Francis - Burke)
    Silva - Sanchez - Ozil - Mahrez - (Hoolahan)
    Aguero - Gomis - Wilson

0.1 itb I think I am gtg. Opinions?

      Based on fixtures, I'd say B :

      - Benteke is more likely to score than Coutinho
      - Silva is more reliable than Yaya I think

I'm curious as to how you managed to Sanchez, Aguero, Silva, Benteke and Pedro : I'm trying to do that but I was only able to get those except for Silva, who I had to replace by Yaya, since I'm 1M short

I've compromised on my backline. Team value is at 100.5

            McCarthy Butland
            Kolorov Gomez Martin Francis Target
            Pedro Mahrez Sanchez Silva Westwood
            Benteke Aguero Wilson

It's not particularly well balanced to be fair. But some big hitters, and most of them have decent fixtures.

One of the downsides of the All Out Attack chip I hadn't considered : if one of your midfielders or forwards doesn't play, you've used it for nothing, since one of your defenders comes in and you find yourself in a 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 again...

    Case in point : http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/868115/event-history/3/
    37th worldwide
And he's already played his 3 chips, for some reason

I don't think so. It's the same with the triple cap : if neither your C or VC plays, then too bad for you

You have to be aware that there's a risk attached to playing your chips.

The bench boost seems the safest actually

Mulling over Gomis to Wilson on a FT, or to save for two frees next GW. Thoughts?

    Pros
Have made 0.1 on Gomis so can cash in.
Fixtures suggest Wilson is a better bet for the immediate future.
Gomis' fixtures toughen soon so would get rid in next few weeks anyway.
    Have Darmian playing this week.
Gives me a decent bit of cash ITB - enough to upgrade Payet to Pedro/Depay next week.

    Cons
Leaves me with only one FT during the break.
Only swapped Wilson to Gomis last week, so is clearly point-chasing...

Same exact scenario as yours. I did the transfer though. Reasons as to why

Wilson might increase in value if he fires. Team value essential to build. Gomez might also go up but common sense makes me think wilson might be a Mahrez like increase.

Darmian and company might shut out Gomez and company

Secondly better budget and can invest elsewhere.

For me Depay to pedeo if his form continue

They should quit already. Sharks are all over them. Personally I would sell Stones for 50m and Coleman for 30

That would only be £40m off the valuation of the entire club!!!

Coleman is 26?? Wow that surprised me. Thought he was like 22/23.

No very late developer, he was 20-21 when we signed him.

      That's strictly BS:

      http://www.psg.fr/fr/Actus/101001/Breve/72014/Al-Khelaifi-Un-grand-potentiel

It says that PSG will not recruit during this transfer window anymore. The only transfer they discuss for now is Lavezzi's departure which is neither blocked nor forced.

They are also in negotiations to prolong Van Der Wiel, who is their no. 2 RB behind Aurier and in contention with Marquinhos.
