Following a Gameweek littered with knocks and niggles, we roll out our usual post-match club-by-club report on the fresh arrivals in the treatment room.

We find Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe with plenty to concern him, whilst Claudio Ranieri plays down the back problem that forced Riyad Mahrez off against the Cherries.

Arsenal
Mesut Ozil missed the Gunners 1-0 win at Newcastle with a minor knee problem. Prior to the match, Arsene Wenger confirmed he expects the German back imminently:

“It’s a slight injury but he is not available to play. He will be out for one week”

Aston Villa
Jack Grealish missed Villa’s home draw with Sunderland after injuring an ankle in training on Friday, while club skipper Gabby Agbonlahor was also ruled out through illness after the club had been hit by a widespread virus.

Post-match, Tim Sherwood brought us this on the Grealish injury….

“Jack twisted his ankle. There was no-one near him. He caught his toe in the turf on Friday. He went over on it. He was sick, gutted. We don’t know how bad it is. We’re hoping it’s just a sprain and the international break might give him an opportunity to be ready for the Leicester game.”

While he also updated us on Agbonlahor’s situation…

“Gabby is not well. He’s had the stomach bug. I think there’s six or seven at the club who have suffered. Gabby was one.”

Adama Traore was also ruled out against the Black Cats having made his debut from the bench at Palace in Gameweek 3. Sherwood was optimistic on his return after the international break…

“Adama is feeling a kick. He got a kick on the back of the calf and obviously rolled his ankle at the same time. The good news is that the ankle is okay. It’s just about the soreness of the kick – and it was too sore for him to take part.”

Bournemouth
The Cherries’ treatment room got a little bit busier this weekend after three of their players sustained weekend injuries. Tyrone Mings lasted just 11 minutes as a sub before being stretchered off, whilst Max Gradel is also a worry for Eddie Howe:

“We need to assess and scan before making a judgement. Tyrone didn’t look good, seeing him in that much pain, it’s not nice to see. Max knew early it was serious. Knee injuries are not good to see. It restricted us tactically. We couldn’t make changes when we needed to to get momentum back.”

Left-back Charlie Daniels was forced off with a knee problem at the break, though is optimistic the problem isn’t serious:

“I had an initial scan and it did not look too bad. Hopefully, it will be nothing long-term but we can’t really tell yet, that was just the first look. Once the swelling has gone down, I will probably have another scan on Tuesday to see how it is.”

The Cherries were also without Joshua King due to a hamstring problem.

Everton
The Toffees are set to be without Tom Cleverley for a period of time after the midfielder was stretchered off in yesterday evening’s goalless draw at Spurs. Post-match, Roberto Martinez admitted the club are uncertain how long Cleverley will be sidelined for:

“The physio is a little bit more positive [than he was at half-time]. I think it is clearly ligament damage – but, straight away, we were fearing it could have been ligament damage and a fracture as well. It shows that Tom is a very, very fit man to be able to get through that collision with a [relatively] minor injury. He will still be out for a while but not as long as we first thought he might be – and we thank the luck that we had there.”

Leicester
Claudio Ranieri confirmed that the Foxes in-form Riyad Mahrez was subbed off at the break after sustaining a back problem during yesterday’s clash with Bournemouth. The Leicester boss eased concerns over a serious injury by revealing:

“We changed Riyad at half-time because he took a kick very early in the game and after that, in the battle, he could not play at full speed. I wanted us to keep pressing forward, so we replaced him as a precaution.”

Southampton
Victor Wanyama – who missed the Saints Europa League exit on Thursday evening with a stomach bug – was again absent for today’s win over Norwich. With rumours of a move to Spurs growing, Ronald Koeman revealed the Kenyan was “not mentally and physically good enough to play” against the Canaries.

Stoke
Mark Hughes has confirmed that Glen Johnson was forced off just after the hour mark against West Brom due to a groin problem.

Swansea
Jefferson Montero missed today’s win over United with a minor thigh problem. After the match, Garry Monk eased fears over the extent of the injury:

“Unfortunately Jeff pulled up in training with a bit of soreness in his quad, but he has had scan and it is nothing clinical.”

Tottenham
Spurs are set to assess Moussa Dembele after the Belgian was stretchered off during the goalless draw with Everton with a foot injury.

The player himself has since posted on Twitter offering reassurance on the scale of the problem.

West Brom
James Chester missed the Baggies 1-0 win at rivals Stoke due to a minor hamstring problem. Callum McManaman also suffered from a similar complaint but was fit enough to make an appearance as a second-half sub.

I can see A Young getting back into the United team in the near future. He's disciplined and tracks back when needed. He's probably more suited to having Fellaini in the team as well so his crosses are more effective.

Great to hear, Just from my understanding Young is a winger, so when you were saying he might start I wasn't to clear 😛
How do you think they'll line up soon?
          Mata drifting to CAM?

I'm suggesting Memphis could be dropped as Young is really a LW player.

I'm not sure how they will line up yet as I expect a new signing to arrive, most likely being a striker, we'll see.

He is the best player for ManUtd by far, since the end of last season.

      Couldn't agree more,

At this rate, Memphis should really be dropped anyway. But obviously LVG wont do that his lovechild,

Another issue is Mata. What does LVG needs to realize that he is not a winger?

Mata has done quite well on the RW tbf. I wouldn't mind seeing Memphis have a go on the RW at some stage with Mata becoming a 10 but we know that won't happen.

Memphis on left wing clearly isnt working.

He played right wing or in hole for PSV and got great numbers.

          Mind you, Dutch league...

No Memphis was a left winger, he can play in the other two positions but is definitely a left winger who likes to cut inside.

With the arrival of KDB, the super assist maker.. It will be difficult to know where he'll play in MID. But that would just increase the assets for Kun's owners.
With Silva, YYT and now KDB to feed him, I just can't wait until he hits his form running to make him my permanent captain! 🙂 😀 :p

Gonna Repost so i can add a question at the end..

    Mourinho on Hazard...
'If you are the best in the league, I think it should be a good responsibility to have a similar season than in the previous season.
'You have players who have fantastic seasons and fantastic moments and the next season do not have the same. If you ask me, 'Will I accept this and wait calmly for the performance level to be back?' No.
'I have to work, react, analyse and if I feel the players are not in conditions to react and give more, I have to make changes. I have never had a problem with that.'

Question: Do you think he's just saying this hoping he gives Hazard a kick up his backside and help him perform.. OR
do you think Hazard will actually see the bench in the short term?
They dont really have anyone to replace him with tbh.

He also seems to be disappointed with the performances of Fabregas/Ivanovic and Matic. The second statement could be for either Fabs/Ivan too

Yup.. that's what i think too. Atleast he's realised his players are underperforming. If anyone can get a team back on track it';s Mourinho. :fingers crossed:

not sure what's happening in Chelsea camp but Ivan & Fab are shite.. Ivan's playing like a amatuer and Fab is not where seen on the pitch..

I for one am keeping him.. feel like i've gone through the rough times with him. Things will improve soon enough(Chelsea are averagin 1 point per game.. that WILL improve).. getting rid now just seems a waste especially since i dont need the cash elsewhere

I'm biting the bullet with Hazard > Pedro early transfer.

I think we have to make a decision based on the cards we're dealt with at the moment Valar. Pedro, regardless of how he played against Palace, has shown in points and on the general eye-test that he is and will continue to be an FPL option for us.

With the price changes on the cards, I would rather roll the dice with Pedro than sit on my arse and kid myself that Hazard is worth 11.4m. At the moment, he is not worth 1.9 million more than Hazard. We might even see a 0.4 swing over the course of the break.

I probably won't do this change in isolation, since it does free up quite a bit of money. Personally looking at a -4 this week and use the freed up cash wisely.

🙁 .. i fear you may be right. not sure i'd want to swap Hazard out for another Chelsea player though atm. Chelsea not being form is the problem.. so that could be like jumping from the frying pan into the fire. Considering swapping for Ayew.. Would then upgrade Chadli to one of the Chelsea boys once they hit some form. Such a waste it's been going for Hazard

It could, very well aware of that! The other logical option is Sanchez - but Arsenal have problems of their own 😆

Tough call that - Ayew looked very very bright as well yesterday but Chadli looked pretty good to me against Everton. Got into a lot of dangerous positions, lots of touches in box based on what I saw. Created 3-4 good opportunities as well. Kane seems to be instructed to drop a bit deeper this season - there are many times during the game that Chadli is more advanced than Kane.

If I were to put Chadli in a category...it's "explosion imminent".

            Disclaimer: I own Chadli 😀

I own Chadli too 🙂 .. Since the start. fixtures turn bad in a week or two and he has to fight off the 2 new signings. The spurs fans have totally gone off Chadli for some reason. most predict him dropped for the new boys. Giving him sun and then reassessing

Key word: season. It's only four games in Jose, that's not the season. Players drop out of form, just because he was PFA Player of the Year last season doesn't mean he shouldn't drop in form briefly.

I can't see him being benched anyway

      1. Valar(Keith)
        • 16 Years

Yup. i think the problem is too many of them have dropped out of form at the same time.. Should turn around soon.. unless this is some alternate reality where Leicester, Palace and Swansea remain 2, 3 and 4 in the table at the season end 😆

        I can.

I was at the Palace game. It's not that Hazard isn't playing well, it's that he isn't doing the same things. Last season he was always ready to take players on and beat them. This season he is hardly trying to do so. The ball is just recycling back into the midfield.

If a player is doing the right things and they just aren't coming off, that could be considered as a temporary loss of form. If he has stopped doing the right things at all that is more serious. Something has happened mentally.

Pellegrini dropped Hart for a while last season and he came back stronger for it. Eden is 24 and has never had that happen in his career. Maybe now is the time.

      Pretty impressed.

He looked very confident yesterday and links up very well with his teammates like you've pointed out. I like his attitude - he's a team player and it is unlikely the crowd will turn on him. Good touch, good vision, gotta love a big striker who can play 1-2s with aplomb.

Happy to stick with him from a fantasy perspective. I think his first season experience will do him good this time around.

Great player, uses his physical strength well and have a superb shooting power.
I like him and own him in my FPL team also.. don't regret having him though.

But he need good distribution from Mané and Tadic.
The last games saw Mané out of form and Tadic sitting out, that's why it was difficult for him up front.

These opening 4 game weeks have certainly been brutal. Let's recap the dominant pre-season assumptions:

    1. Soft in the head if you don't have Hazard; double up with Chelsea defenders - Azpi or Ivan?
    2. United will be strong in attack but leave their defence.
    3. Have a Liverpool midfielder; leave the defence.
    4. Essential to doubleup with Arsenal midfielder and defender.
    5. Man City are a bit meh but hold out for Aguero.
    6. Leicester have a clown manager - leave well alone.
    7. Palace are alright but have brutal opening fixtures - leave for now.
    8. The Southampton system will ensure clean sheets.

I confess as I'm sat with 75% of managers above me that I've gotten off to an awful start but I'm sure many will see themselves in these pre-season beliefs.

So, do we believe things will revert to type imminently? Form is temporary, class is permanent?
I'm not so sure, hence my next post will be my WC RMT - it ain't template!!!

My best FPL decision so far..
Was making my mind to swap Hazard + Pelle to Costa + Coutinho till late friday..
until I decided to let go of it and save my FT for the intl. break!

I'm sooooo happy I kept Pelle and didn't get Coutinho IN!

More so, when I decided at the last minute to bench Richards and play Targett! hehe! Nice coup.

Only decision where I hesitated was to captain Silva instead of Aguero, but I don't mind! I had Ayew to bring back the smile!

I like the heave D. I've gone for a heavy D myself and there is plenty of value to be had. I'd consider Bellerin over Kompany though, just a thought.

I think you could benefit from having a City midfielder. If you are strapped for cash I think Sterling is a good non template pick that will do well.

I'm actually taking Bellerin and Cedric out (maybe my pre-WC squad is better).

My assumption is that over the season (or at least until the 2nd WC) City and United will keep more clean sheet than anyone else, and that my 4 picks are nailed-on, so that I'll use a 433 or 442 every week - unorthodox round these parts.

My thinking is that with KdB in, Silva and Sterling might be rested around tough CL matches.

Eggs and baskets is my only issue and you won't keep them all season long so forget about that. I certainly wouldn't be taking Bellerin and Cedric out anyway.

I don't think the city midfielders will be getting rests and I still feel as if you need to double up on their attack, they will get plenty of goals.
