After scoring 16 goals and providing eight assists in his maiden campaign in the Premier League, hopes were high for Alexis Sanchez coming into the new season, despite concerns over the Chilean’s fitness levels after his exploits for his country in this summer’s Copa America.

With just a single assist to show from the first four Gameweeks, though, many of Sanchez’ 12% ownership in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) will soon start questioning whether the Arsenal attacker is worth his considerable 11.0 price tag. In this ‘Monitor’ article for members, we compare the former Barcelona man’s underlying statistics from last season to this in order to ascertain just why he is failing to live up to his 2014/15 exploits.

So is it safe to say that if De Gea does play against Liverpool, that we'd see a massive influx for De Gea in fantasy teams?

Romero was 5.0m. 5.3m's hardly a bargain for a Manu keeper.

decided to go for Kun (c)

Hardly anyone in my ML even has Sanchez whilst everyone has Kun. If Kun fires and Sanchez blanks I'll drop like a stone. if the reverse happens then I stand to gain even without San(c)hez

The only Watford game I've seen was against Everton so I'm no expert on this, Coates was dropping so I just looked at a few stats and plumped for one of them. Probably chosen completely the wrong one.

    Arsenal vs Leicester

In the last 8 home games in the league Arsenal have scored 11 goals, blanking 5 times. Leicester have scored 20, blanking never.

Mahrez is on pens and central to the way the latter play, he has four double digit hauls in ten. Sanchez is one of many mavericks, shoots from anywhere and has one double digit haul in ten.

So can somebody, logically, please explain to me why Sanchez is a better captain option than Mahrez this week. Bearing in the mind the latter is also playing against a worse away defence.

I'm not saying Mah will definitely outscore San, but I am saying that every single measurable statistic is against the latter. And shots which sail over the bar from thirty yards is not a measurable statistic.

Stats aside, the odds are still in the favour of Arsenal winning the game. Sanchez won't be out of the points for much longer, and that's the opinion of most on here, and that's why everyone including myself is keeping faith. Plus what's the point in having a player like Sanchez if you aren't going to captain him every now and then?

      1. FISSH

For 11m and 5 out of 8 home blanks. I don't have him. Last 15 fixtures he's playing like a 7m midfielder not at 11m one. He is absolutely shocking value.

I don't know if you've been watching the games, but it's only a matter of time before a 15 point haul from what I've seen. The stats suggest that too. Admittedly I'm beginning to lose faith though, but there's not many high point scorers in the premium midfielder category just yet anyway.

Sánchez, 20 shots, 15 in the box.

Allow me some creativity. I've watched all arsenal matches, and he's only really come close to scoring once bar the lucky assist. Ramsey has looked far more dangerous. Besides most of his shots come from the far corner of the box. Honest... that must be twenty yards right?

Arsenal have created many chances and have had many shots, it wouldn't be surprising if they scored 4. Plus Sanchez is around much better teammates and is the better player IRL.

I'm not saying it would be a surprise. I'm saying if a stats guy came along and looked at the last 15 matches (8 at home) they would never captain Sanchez. Leicester are the most in form team in the land! Playing villa!

Diouf > Wilson with one of my 2FTs is on the cards then.

Kind of a shame as I didn't want to lose Diouf so soon, will wait for more news though.

But in all honesty. Compared to teams of the past England's current crop is talent is quite disappointing. Always those players with plenty of potential like Barkley, Shelvey, Wilshere, etc, but you just know that none of them will actually become great.

I agree. The days of Gazza sem like a distant memory...well they are actually.

I always like to see a player improving though. Shelvey is giving a good account of himself so far this season.

Barkley has all the attributes to make the top imo

Wilshere also on his game and fully fit is a fantastic player but a mixture of injuries and a bad attitude mean he wont ever reach his potential

Shelvey is a good player nothing more nothing less will make himself a good carreer in the premie rleague but influencing games at the top level of the champions league and international stage.. no.. imo of course

Anyone else thinking that Ramsey is looking like a really good option for captaincy this weekend? If I had him, he'd be the one I'd captain without a doubt.

Why is that? There's plenty better options, Aguero, Alexis, Mahrez, Gomis, Ayew, etc.

He should have had a goal against LIV and he has generally looked really dangerous I think. I don't trust SWA away to WAT, don't trust Mahrez to consistently deliver yet, and personally think Alexis hasn't looked as good as Ramsey this season so far. Kun is the only one I'd think about picking before Ramsey (I actually have him as captain at the mo).

had this debate in relation to Liverpool's defence (and folk ignoring the 2 perfectly good goals disallowed against them, short-term memories and too much concentration on FPL points). Then they got spanked 3-0 2 days after i got shouted down.

Diouf getting injured on international duty throws a spanner in the works. I guess it's Hoolahan v BOU this week then. Hopefully he's fine for Leicester in GW6. I'd be tempted by Rondon if he isn't.

Both good choices, which one you go for depends how well they rotate with the rest of your team. I prefer Dawson over Evans because of Evans dreadful injury record. Williams best pick from swans.

Going with Williams and evans myself. He'll be in the team sooner rather than later and happy with my bench to cover. If I had to choose one though, swans on current form
