Weโ€™ve plenty to consider in our pre-Gameweek assessment of the upcoming round of fixtures. Jamie Vardy goes up against West Brom’s defence, Harry Kaneโ€™s momentum at home to Villa, Everton and Southamptonโ€™s form as the fixtures fall in their favour, and Cityโ€™s armband options as Norwich roll up to the Etihad are all on this evening’s menu…

Vardy against Pulisโ€™ defenceโ€ฆ.
Now owned by a massive 46% of FPL managers on the back of ten goals in as many matches, the Leicester talisman is braced for one of his toughest tests so far. The consistent Vardy has scored in each of the last seven but now visits a West Brom backline thatโ€™s already served up six clean sheets this season. Those who have doubled up on Vardy and Riyad Mahrez will be hoping one, or both, can do the business against Tony Pulisโ€™ notoriously tight defence as the fixtures start to turn against the Foxes from Gameweek 14 onwards.

Kaneโ€™s momentum โ€ฆ.
A hat-trick at Bournemouth has kick-started a major bandwagon, with the Spurs striker earning more transfers in than any other frontman over the last few days. Kane had struggled to tuck away his chances prior to the Cherries clash but with his confidence on the up, can he continue his ascent up the Fantasy standings at home to managerless Villa? Spurs are now unbeaten since Gameweek 1 and, as we saw last term, Kane will be difficult to ignore if he starts firing on all cylinders.

Willian as a viable Chelsea optionโ€ฆ.
Whilst Eden Hazardโ€™s struggles have cast a shadow over Chelseaโ€™s Fantasy potential, the Brazilian has been quietly building a case for his inclusion. Willian has bagged two goals and an assist in the last four now and also struck the Bluesโ€™ consolation in a 2-1 Champions League loss to Porto late last month. At 6.8, a fine performance against Liverpool this weekend may persuade some heโ€™s worth a punt as the fixtures start to turn in the defending championsโ€™ favour thereafter.

Firminoโ€™s chance under Kloppโ€ฆ.
Handed an 87-minute run out against Bournemouth in the cup last night, the Brazilianโ€™s display was talked up by Jurgen Klopp after the German clinched his first win in charge. Firmino arrived at Anfield amid much fanfare but struggled to make an impact under Brendan Rodgers , showing little of the talents that served up 32 goals and 24 assists in his final two years at Hoffenheim. With Philippe Coutinho struggling for form, though, will Klopp be able to get the best out of Firmino and heap further pressure onto Jose Mourinho at the Bridge?

Lukaku and Barkley as the fixtures turn kindโ€ฆ.
After a dire opening schedule, the Toffees are primed for significant investment ahead of a fine run of fixtures from now until Gameweek 19. Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley have already proven themselves against some of the leagueโ€™s toughest opponents and will be looking to maintain that form as Sunderland roll up to Goodison. Sitting in 24% and 21% of FPL sides respectively, they clearly have the ownership levels to punish those who have yet to climb on board.

Mane and Van Dijk as our differentialsโ€ฆ
Graziano Pelle (32%) and Jose Fonte (13%) aside, the Saints have mainly been overlooked by Fantasy managers this season. A home clash against whipping boys Bournemouth kick starts an eye-catching run of matches that could propel Ronald Koemanโ€™s men up the table. Sadio Mane has three goals and an assist in four and Virgil van Dijk has netted twice in six appearances yet are owned by just 8% and 1% respectively. Early adopters will be hoping the pair can punish the struggling Cherries before the inevitable bandwagon ensues.

Cityโ€™s captaincy conundrum as the Canaries come callingโ€ฆ.
A 5-1 cup win over Palace last night means that the league leaders have racked up ten goals in their last two domestic home matches without Sergio Aguero on board. With visitors Norwich conceding six times at Newcastle in their previous road trip, City look primed to run riot, though picking the correct armband option could be a tricky task. Kevin de Bruyne leads this weekโ€™s Captain Poll with over 29% of the votes cast but bearing in mind that Wilfried Bony and Raheem Sterling overshadowed the Belgian with 16 and 19 points respectively in their last league match at the Etihad, itโ€™s not quite so clear cut. Agueroโ€™s injury may not have diminished their points potential but with David Silva possibly returning and Yaya Toure also in the mix, the Argentineโ€™s absence arguably makes that armband call a little more tricky.

Van Gaalโ€™s answer to Unitedโ€™s toilsโ€ฆ.
The Red Devils limped out of the Capital One Cup on spot-kicks last night after failing to score against Middlesbrough over 120 minutes. United have netted just once in three matches in all competitions now, with Van Gaalโ€™s decision to shift Anthony Martial out wide doing little to boost their attacking potential. Yes, the upcoming fixtures are in their favour but if the Frenchman continues to be utilised as a winger, that 27% ownership will surely continue to plummet.

Bilicโ€™s attacking set-up at Vicarage Roadโ€ฆ.
Last weekโ€™s 2-1 win over Chelsea gives the West Ham boss plenty to ponder in the final third. Whilst thereโ€™s no question over Dimitri Payet and Manuel Lanziniโ€™s starts, both Diafra Sakho and Victor Moses will be fretting over their pitch time as the Hammers roll up to Watford. With Moses unavailable to face his parent club last week, replacement Mauro Zarate staked a claim with a goal and maximum bonus, whilst Carroll emerged from the bench to grab the winner as Sakho was shifted onto the flank. Bilic will perhaps be a little reluctant to tinker too much with a wining side but itโ€™s clear that his options are increasing as the season unfolds.

Its really a mystery about this Walcott selection among FPLers...I mean is it herd mentality that blinds people to go for him again and again even if he screams waste of transfer?

Like at start of season even i got caught up in Walcott hysteria @GW 1 but moved on permanently after that but some still went after him yet again!

Please dont tell me its the english player overhype effect as its the case for Sturridge too out here...so blinded by potential that people forget their inconsistency?

He's a 8.6m priced striker that plays for a team that is second in the league and is listed as a midfielder in FPL. The moment he becomes nailed, he's one of the best fpl players there is.

Utterly blinded by previous performance. To be fair, I've been hit by it with other players before. With Wally, I avoided because every time I watched him play striker I thought he looked absolute garbage. Can't blame folks for taking a punt, a mid playing forward is always appealing, but Wally is more appealing on the wing where he knows how to attack.

Got him in after a string of starts up front and great stats for the United game and was rewarded instantly with 2 assists. Was a good option until his injury

Exactly good option only for short time...wouldnt you had preferred Ozil as the similar priced Arsenal option? Less explosive but bang on will play every game and easily outscore Walcoot over longer period

He has a better minutes to goal ratio than both Giroud and Sanchez, was playing up front and listed as a mid.

Yes he is rotation and injury prone but you could see why people picked him.

The herd mentality started the season with Rooney, who has been garbage for at least two years, thats a bigger mystery.

    Just a quick poll:

How soon do you plan on getting Aguero back in?

Too expensive IMO to be a squad regular. I'll put him in whenever City have a good home fixture/good run in general. Had him in for one game this season and that was when he scored his 5 goals! Remember before that he barely got off the mark..

      FPL gold is
o Big hitter back from injury
      o Got him in early
o Getting those differential points before the herd jumps on.

      However, Aguero is different because
o Massive coverage of his fitness
o He requires investment (and divestment) to get in
o He's a 'hygiene factor' FPL pick/captain (by which I mean you get him so you don't lose ground on everyone else!)

So, the only logical option is to wait until he's 100% fit (NOT the game when he's in as a sub - your chosen sacrificial lambs, in my case KdB and one of Martial/Kane, will start the game Aguero comes on as sub for) and then take the hit. No point in getting him in for a sub appearance at the expense of two players.

To my mind, this is probably Man City vs. Southampton rather than the Liverpool game where he will get minutes (Pelle will be cautious bringing him back) but probably not start... pending Pelle saying "Sergio Will Start" in the presser ofc

Surman the best bet but the reason I've gone to 3-5-2 is to have a sub (Ighalo) that I would feel comfortable playing if I needed to

I'd hold off on assuming that for a while yet. Many other players have experienced stuff like this, even Van Persie was accused at one point. If guilty it changes things, as jail time is an issue, but if innocent it should be surmountable.

Haven't been watching much of Southampton this season. Why is Cedrics minutes so irregular? Is it another Darmian situation?

Don't worry he is nailed on now. He was subtituted twice because of little injuries. Once tactical change which occured to be disaster for Saints and Koeman rather unlikley to do it again.

Oh. Looking at saints defence. Not sure why people prefer that new guy if Cedric is nailed and cheaper. Couple of goal hype. Thanks. Probably go for him.

Have Vardy, Pelle and Martial. Kane seems like the new boy for the forward line.

Pelle or Martial for the exit? (Leaning Martial, probably)

Taking Pelle out before a home game v leaky Bournemouth would be insane

Leaning further towards shoving Martial... Cheers.

Any advice on my team, currently bottom of my ML?

            Butland/Hennessey
            Dawson/Cedric/Bellerin (Williams/Azpi)
            Sanchez/KDB/Payet/Mane(c) (Mahrez)
            Pelle/Vardy/Ighalo

            2 FT + 0.7 ITB

            A) Azpi > Sagna
            B) Azpi + Butland > Sagna + DDG
            C) Azpi + Williams + Ighalo > Lukaku + 2 benchwarmers
            D) GTG?
