Arouna Kone hits a hat-trick as Everton hammer Sunderland at Goodison. Romelu Lukaku and Gerard Deulofeu both deliver double-figure hauls, whilst Steven Fletcher nets for the third time in the last four for the Wearsiders. Elsewhere, Graziano Pelle and Steven Davis bag a goal apiece as Southampton see off local rivals Bournemouth at St Mary’s.

Kone Treble Downs Black Cats

Arouna Kone was the unlikely hat-trick hero as Everton carded a 6-2 victory over Sunderland at Goodison Park. The Ivorian frontman was making his first start in five Gameweeks and also bagged an assist, engendering a 20-point haul for the round. Although Kone is priced enticingly at 4.8 and could profit from the Toffees’ excellent schedule through to the New Year, it’s worth remembering that Steven Naismith enjoyed a similar flourish in Gameweek 5 (hat-trick against Chelsea) but soon disappeared off our radar.

Romelu Lukaku rewarded the 50,000 Fantasy managers that recruited him prior to Gameweek 11, serving up a goal and two assists. In light of the Merseysiders’ stellar run of fixtures from now until Gameweek 19, Lukaku’s potential worth has been well documented – and that’s already coming to fruition. With head-to-heads against Aston Villa (home) and Bournemouth (away) in the next three, his 26% ownership will be eagerly anticipating further attacking returns.

Gerard Deulofeu bagged a goal and two assists against the Black Cats, underlining his differential potential. Although Roberto Martinez’s penchant for rotation on the flanks renders him a risky punt, it’s worth noting that the young Spaniard has now started four of the last five and racked up a goal and five assists over those fixtures. James McCarthy scooped his first assist of the campaign to round off Everton’s scoring.

Sunderland Swept Aside

Steven Fletcher and Jermain Defoe both found the mark as the Wearsiders slumped to their fourth successive road defeat. Impressively, the former now lays claim to three goals and one assist in the last four Gameweeks, bolstering his case for investment as a budget (5.0) third forward. That being said, it’s hard to look past the similarly priced Odion Ighalo (5.4), who’s second in the league-wide scoring charts (seven goals) this term.

Sebastian Coates earned an assist but negated two of those points with an own goal at the 55-minute mark. Patrick van Aanholt’s assist was his first attacking points of the season as the Dutchman was handed a first start since Gameweek 7. Regardless, Sunderland’s rearguard assets are far from desirable at present, given that they’ve conceded 14 goals in the last six Gameweeks and boast just one clean sheet this term.

Pelle Notches Again

Graziano Pelle came up trumps for his 34% ownership in a 2-0 home win against Bournemouth, firing home his first goal in three league matches. Akin to Lukaku, Saints’ premier frontman is in the midst of a favourable streak of match-ups (sun, STO, mc, AVL, cry), rendering him a popular pick in the mid-priced bracket. Considering Sunderland’s humbling at the hands of Everton, Pelle is sure to attract a host of captain’s armbands next time out.

Steven Davis popped up with his second goal in four matches. The Northern Ireland international’s 4.8 price tag catches the eye, yet the fact he’s only attempted four shots in 11 starts suggests he’s experiencing an unsustainable purple patch. Elsewhere in the south-coast outfit’s midfield, Dusan Tadic chalked up his second assist in three starts, while Victor Wanyama picked up a red card for two bookable offences – the Kenyan enforcer will return to contention after the international break when Southampton play host to Stoke City.

Ryan Bertrand registered an assist to complement Saints’ first clean sheet in six outings. Yesterday aside, Ronald Koeman’s troops have struggled to batten down the hatches of late, but the fact that they face off against Aston Villa and Stoke – who rank joint-bottom for goal scored (nine) – in the next four Gameweeks bodes well for their hopes of establishing consistency at the back.

Another Loss for Cherries

Although a move to 4-3-3 to accommodate fit-again Harry Arter saw Bournemouth tally more attempts (16 compared to 11) than their local rivals, the Cherries failed to score for the first time since Gameweek 2 as they slipped to a fifth successive defeat. No team has shipped more goals (12) in the last trio of Gameweeks than Eddie Howe’s men, which serves as encouragement for Newcastle United and Swansea City investors in light of the Cherries’ next wave of fixtures (NEW, swa, EVE, che).

That's the problem you'll have with that front 8 - any of them could really punish you. If you'd bench Lukaku or Mahrez this week you'd have been even worse off!

My thinking is that I wouldn't bench am in-form De Bruyne against a woeful Villa, Mahrez and Vardy are absolutely bang in form, the NLD often has goals and Sanchez, despite poor returns in the last 2, could get a big haul, Everton's defence is very ropey - even Sunderland carved us open at times, and Lukaku is off the back of a great display and could do real damage again.

Coutinho certainly has the potential for a haul, but he takes an awful lot of long-range shots, and has the knack to blank quite a lot. It's a risk, but I'd say it's a calculated one.

Payet would be my 2nd choice, but our defence is poor at the moment, Payet could tear us apart.

Scout Pick Community Champion Lottery – Gameweek 12

This season we have revamped how we involve the community in our Scout Picks. Once again we are on the look out for a champion to represent the community to take on the Scout Picks and win the chance of a prize.

The big difference this year is the launch of the Scout Pick Champion Lottery. If you want to take part please email your FFS name and FPL ID number to community@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk .

The champion will then be selected at random shortly after the deadline of 2pm tomorrow (Tuesday) and then be asked to submit their XI by Thursday 3pm by emailing me at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk

We only need 11 picks and please be mindful of the 83m budget. There’s no captain in the picks either and please stick to a designated FPL formation, including no more than three players from one team. No captain or chips will be applied.

At the end of the season the champion who beats the picks by the highest margin will win a £100 Amazon voucher.

In addition, from this week FantasyBet (https://www.fantasybet.com/) are offering Community Champions the chance to win free entry into their £500 Guaranteed ‘Big Weekly’ game worth £22 by taking on our Scout Picks in a specially set up game ahead of Gameweek 11. In addition the eligible Community Champion who beats the Scout Picks by the highest margin every month will win a free entry into the £600 guaranteed ‘Boss’ game worth £55.

This is an extra offer that is available to any community champion who is 18 or over and not based in the US.

Champions will not be able to be selected as a champion for a second time. The champion will be revealed in a new midweek Scout Picks article on Tuesday, which will outline our initial thinking around the picks. Our and the champions picks will be revealed as usual the day before the first match of the Gameweek.

Should the community “Champion” fail to provide an initial or final Scout Pick selection, then an “Assistant Manager” chosen by us, will gain control of the selection to represent the community for the Gameweek in question.

Why are people so quick to get rid of Mahrez and Vardy who are scoring points for fun? Is it a case that people have such good teams they have the luxury of hoping points stop for the more difficult fixtures?

Considering we got them so cheap should we not give them a chance to keep performing?

Mahrez has only blanked once when playing 70+.....

Mahrez and Vardy are the 2 cemented in my team at the moment, I really don't understand benching or selling them - this isn't hindsight, I tried to warn Jonty last week 😉

I agree that ditching is folly. But for me I gambled that Mata, who scored twice against Palace last season and is on pens would score more than Mahrez. Classic fixture over form. It was obviously wrong with hindsight. I should have listened to you though and credit to you for being one of the very small voices to say play Mahrez....most said bench him and many, sadly, did.

Aha I'm deflecting away from my own failings of not getting Lukaku (though a Kane haul tonight could still justify that decision). It's a bad decision when it's someone else, but bad luck when it's me 😉

This week there were so many strikers with potential to do well...only three slots though. I went Bony over Lukaku...but Bony against Villa could potentially prove that right.

Yeah the striker carousel was very difficult, it was a coin toss with Lukaku and Kane but my Evertonian pessimism shone through.

In fact rather than getting rid should we not be giving them serious consideration for captain this week?

Are we avoiding captaining because of their price? Is this the same problem people had last year with Kane for a while?

I sold him because I thought Mane would do better over the next while. Southampton do have the better fixtures, Leicester aren't going to sustain this form and we were all doubled on Leicester players anyway. Plus it's not like there aren't other quality midfield options...

Bad start to that particular master plan. Gonna be awful hard to face up to bringing Mahrez back in at full price if he does continue. Guess it's best for us that sold to follow through and hope Mahrez does falter when the fixtures turn rough?

There wasn't really much justification for getting him in the first place considering his unsustainable conversion rate from so few shots and shots on target when he was playing up front.

As you say he's taking even less now that he's out on the wing and is now down to 31st in Paul Riley's xG rankings...

Will Butland be returning to the watchlist?

But seriously, Is there a case towards rotating Pelle in a 3-5-2 as his output clearly diminishes away from home?

Is Ighalo now a fixture proof striker as the hurt of benched points is becoming more consistent

If you had benched Pelle at Chelsea you would have missed his 14 point haul in that match - but that could happen to any player you bench if you have 8 good ones.

It's all relative really - you should just bench the player whom you expect to be the lowest scorer of your front eight that game-week, irrespective of price and reputation. That might well result in 3-4-3 some weeks and 3-5-2 in others, unless you have a cheap permanently benched player amongst your front eight.

Always bench the player whom you expect to be the lowest scorer of your front eight that game-week, irrespective of price and reputation. That player might not always be one of your cheapest players.

If all eight are scoring well, just be grateful to them for that, even if the one you bench sometimes outscores some of your starters.

If they are justified, then perhaps they aren't really sideways moves.

When is a sideways move not a sideways move anyway?

IMO, the only completely sideways moves are those between players in the same team with the same position, same price, same form and same fitness and nailed-on-ness!

Why does it seem like so many overlooked using the AOA chip last week and were happy to bench Mahrez, and now they are certain that this is the best week to use it to avoid a similar benching headache.
I guess we're still figuring out the best times to use the chips given that it's our first season with them. Just look at the highest scorer so far this gameweek who used his bench boost, surely that's a success vs holding for a dgwk.

      Lukaka
      Pelle
      Kane
      Bony
      Vardy

Should we add intangible stats to the already long list?

I have O'Shea on my bench and I knew, if he didn't play, Sunderland were going to be worse. But I've been thinking about it for a while. When a regular goes down with an injury, the team with the injury normally get worse. Ramsey is injured and Arsenal got lucky that Campbell played well. However, Jags didn't play for Everton and they conceded twice at home

Is it really worth trying to find a differential in Mini Leagues this year...!?
Feel like a very silly boy for selling Mahrez for Barkley! How on earth did he not get anything from a 6 -2 win!? An act of being brave now sees me even further behind!
Are we now only going to make up ground in our Mini Leagues by having the right defenders?

Benteke - with looking at? Or anther one I'm maybe looking at to early...!?

This is a good point. Should Barkley still be considered as a good option for Everton cover if he can't even register any points in 90 mins against Sunderland?

Difficult with only one week in my team, only time will tell if it was the right move or do I end up with egg on my face by getting Mahrez back...!?

Yet another case of Form over Fixtures, I'm starting to wonder if looking at the fixtures even matters that much...

Boy do I need a big game from Captain Kane tonight!

The Aguero money has given us so much options that it's easy to bench the wrong player. Most will probably play Mahrez and bench Mata/Payet next week which could lead to another shocker. Is it the right time to play AOA?

Now that Sánchez has dipped in form is it worth considering that Özil might be the best Arsenal pick who also provides an easy route into the Agüero return?

Q1: When in doubt who would you rather bench Vardy or Mahrez? The way I see it, benching Vardy means there's more chance there are points on the bench but mostly in the 5-7 range. With Mahrez, the possibility of having points on the bench is less but there is a bigger chance you leave a huge haul on the bench like this week.

Q2: Are Leceister's next 6 really bad or are we ignoring form and going by previous reputation? Watford, Newcastle are easy games, Chelsea and Swansea are in dire form, Utd do concede goals in away games and Everton concede many goals as well (2 to Sunderland, 3 to Utd and 2 to Arsenal in recent matches)

Bearing in mind Granville dumped Mahrez and Coutinho for a hit, and recalling his decision to sell Yossi Benayoun before his hatrick against Burnley in 2009/10 - would you consider renaming the "Rough" of "Rough with the Smooth" with "Granny's Transfer Howlers"?

Has he really not made any bigger howlers since 2009-10?

And was dumping Benayoun just before his hat-trick really a bad move, or was it merely unlucky (a "Granny's Miff")?

Have any of us not made a few "howlers" or moves which turned out badly since then?

I am sure he has, as of course we all have, but I remember 2009/10 in particular since I was new to the site and posted a lot more often than now. And it wasn't just the Benayoun trade for Granville, there were a quite a few back-to-back. It was actually Marknlard who coined the "Granny's Transfer Howlers" phrase, I can't take credit for it. A bit of nostalgia never harmed anyone!

Thoughts on lukaku? Worth taking him in for a hit? Thinking of replacing ayoze and eriksen for lukaku and ritchie. Barkley and koné duo is also tempting me, but not sure if koné hattrick was a fluke or if he will keep his goalscoring form. Should I keep eriksen or not? please help..

The goalkeeper position has become an interesting differential this year. With the increased BPS for Goalkeepers, they are more likely to get bonus if a team keeps a cleansheet.

We have seen that keepers from 'smaller', defensive teams which allow more shots on target and don't commit as many fullbacks forward are more likely to rack up scores of 8-11 (Butland, Gomes and Myhill as seen already).

That being said, with the 'Premium' goal keepers like DDG and Cech being more reasonably priced this year at 5.5 , should managers go for the cheaper options like Gomes and save the 0.9/1.0 over Cech/DDG ?

I think he's the only one I would want at this point. 16 points clear of other Man U defenders, playing the best footy of his life (if you ask me at least), and has that eye for goal. 4 of them last season. 0 this campaign, and you would have to think there are some to come.

amazed at how little stick costa is getting in terms of the list of chelsea players who are not performing. hazard was far from the worst player on saturday. maybe if he had committed a few fouls and gone in hard on a player and snuck in a kick or two he could have passed off mindless aggression as 'working hard for the cause' the way costa seems to be doing at the moment

Thanks. Yes, Sterling is so frustrating to own but with Kun out I'm finding it hard to get rid. He was brilliant when he came on at the weekend. If Kol put that penalty in he would have got 2 assists in 37 minutes.

Was thinking of doing Deeney to Ighalo last week but some guys on here told me it was too much of a sideways move! Wish I did it now...

Might just change Ruddy to Gomes/Pants and save the other FT.

The only players I can feasibly bench this week are Lukaku, Pelle, Mane or Payet, all of which could easily score big.

So do I bench one of these 4 or do I play AOA and bench Cedric?

Part of the reason I'm considering this is that Wanyama is suspended and so Southampton might be leakier than usual. Also with the upcoming return of Aguero my bench is unlikely to be this strong again.

    Opinions?
